How to unlock the Mod Culture achievement in Costume Quest 2 - Definitive Guide

The shady man who sells candy treats cards will start selling costume upgrades just after the school segment, in the sewers. The first three upgrades available are for the Clown, Candy Corn and Superhero costumes. Each upgrade costs 1,000 candies. Simply buy all three, and the achievement should unlock.

Note: You may need to have a prior upgrade to increase candy bucket size to hold 3,000 candies at once. If you don't, just buy one or two first, then come back when you have enough candies to buy the rest.

Note2: While replaying the game on the Xbox 360, I realized that the costume upgrades came as early as in the French Quarter. So if you actually have some spare candies then, you can start upgrading the costume from that point. Also, to have an increased candy bucket size, you'd need to complete a hide-and-seek side quest.

There are 11 upgrades total. The Personal Floss Robot costume does not have an upgrade. As you reach certain character levels, Shady will be stocked with new costume upgrades. Also keep in mind that you will need to upgrade the Hot Dog costume, Superhero costume and the Wolfman costume as part of the Cosmonaut trophy, these are usually the most expensive things he sells but you only need to buy 3 for the trophy. The upgrades are as follows:

  • Candy Corn Upgrade: Brown Paint
  • Clown Upgrade: Rainbow Cloth
  • Superhero Upgrade: Star Patch
  • Pterodactyl Upgrade: Fanny Pack
  • Jefferson Upgrade: Red Dye
  • Wizard Upgrade: Bleach
  • Wolfman Upgrade: Letterman Jacket
  • Pharaoh Upgrade: Dog Ear Headband
  • Ghost Upgrade: Green Dye
  • Hot Dog Upgrade: Felt Squares
  • Solar System Upgrade: Jumbo Black Marker

Each costume in the game can be upgraded to become more powerful in combat. Upgrades can be bought with candy from a shopkeeper named Shady. He'll follow you to new areas throughout the game so it's not hard to find him. Buy any 3 upgrades to unlock this achievement.

I recommend only upgrading the costumes you use the most so that you don't have to spend any more time than you need earning candy. You should also prioritize the Superhero, Wolfman, and Hot Dog upgrades because those are required to unlock the Solar System Costume and "Cosmonaut" achievement.

The trophy is almost story-driven. Costumes can only be improved by purchasing upgrades from merchants. Merchants are green trolls in cloaks and hats. Upgrades cost 1000-1500 candies apiece, depending on the costume.

PS if you knock out the Cosmonaut trophy, you will receive it automatically.
