How to unlock the Street Racer achievement in Crackdown 2 - Definitive Guide

There are a total of 15 Road Races in Pacific City. After completing 5, 5 more will unlock. After completing 10, the remaining 5 will unlock. There are, in total, 5 on each main island. For these races, it is recommended that you use the Supercar for 14 of them. There is a race on Green Bay's north island that I would recommend using the SUV for.

Some of the later races may prove to be more annoying than difficult, but this achievement is obtainable by everyone.

Edit: Oh, and just to make the races easier, make sure you have all of the Tactical Locations. The last thing you need is to drive through a certain race, only to lose because Cell destroyed your vehicle.

Edit 2: Removed the section about the invisible timer. A time limit is now available.

I see a race timer in the upper right, next to my current time.

Yeah, the first 10 are cake, and there's enough time to forgive some sloppiness; but the last five are very tough to get in just in time. I finished a couple with only seconds to spare.

For the 14 of 15 races that are best done in the Agency super car, think Mario Cart, not Forza. You've got to powerslide as many corners as possible and avoid hitting ANYTHING at all. Keep the trigger down, watch your line to stay in the middle of the paved street as much as possible and tap the parking brake (A) just a little bit every time you need a sharp corner.

The biggest bitch for me was "Dart Out of Hell" up on the northernmost island: there's no time for any oopses at all -- none -- if you hit something and get stuck, abort the race, throw your car in the ocean and get a new one (the handling on the super car degrades pretty fast as it takes damage).

The race best done in an SUV is "Low Down Dirty Tracker", and you'll be using the jump feature several times. Learn where to aim as you come over the crest of the hill to get the best line. There is one jump in the backstretch where you want to compress the suspension, but NOT jump: release the jump after you're airborne in order to get the smoothest landing and lose the least time recovering from the bounce. This race has enough time for a few little bouncy oopses in the SUV, but not many. If you roll it or miss a jump, you might as well start over. (I tried it in the dune buggy a couple times, but the SUV sticks better and handles better for me overall. Just wish it had a cannon or two. And still had the evolve feature... I can't believe the producers gave such lame reasons for cutting the feature in 2.)

My favorite race is the "Monster Dash". It's got the most room to wind it all the way up and just keep the pedal down...

Maybe worth mentioning here that I found "Low Down Dirty Tracker" easiest in a Peacekeeper Cruiser of all things. I'd failed (and failed badly) about a dozen times in the SUV and Buggy, but the Cruiser did it first time, and I even had room for one pretty big mistake.

Interestingly, I tried the cruiser, buggy, super car and the SUV. Nothing worked for me except the SUV.

only had major problems with the aforementioned "low down dirty tracker" - was always a few seconds out with the cruiser, but SUV worked fine! didn't bother with the 'grip' mode and the jumping, though, just drove as normal and it was a there with time to spare :)

If you simply cannot manage to do 1 or more of the races (like myself) there is another solution that I've found actually works.

Get a friend who can complete those races to drive the car while you sit in the passenger seat, and let him do the race for you... however(!)... before passing through the final checkpoint your friend must jump from the vehicle.

If he does that, being the person behind the wheel as it passes through the final checkpoint will register the race as complete for *you*.

I tested this with a friend by driving one of the easy races that he hadn't done yet, and it worked fine.

The races are fairly simple for the most part; I had the most trouble with the final 5.

You should use the Supercar for all races except for ONE which is located beside the stadium in the Green Bay area (top left island, you can see the giant oval where the stadium is). For that one, you need to use the SUV as it has more traction on dirt roads.

Try if at all possible to do the races in the daytime - otherwise you'll be running over hundreds of freaks and sometimes the Pounders will get you. However, that is rare as it only happened to me once in all 15 races.

One thing that I noticed is that you CAN, in fact, do the races with a friend. It does not matter who drives, (generally the host will win the race by milliseconds anyway) as long as they finish the race. Now, the game will say "ROAD RACE FAILED" for the non-winner, but if you check the achievement in the Start Menu (Start > Achievements > scroll down to Street Racer) it will still say "x/15 Complete" where 'x' is the number of races. I had my friend drive about half and I drove the other half, with him winning all of them since he was host, and we both got the achievement upon completion. As an added note we had both completed the same three races by ourselves on a previous day, so we started with 3/15 complete. This likely does not make a difference for actually unlocking the achievement though,

So, as a general driving tip just make sure you slow down for all sharp corners, don't take any jumps unless absolutely necessary, and if a car is in your way for any reason it's best to just hit it. The Supercar can plow underneath them doing next to no damage and not reducing the speed. Swerving to avoid them may cause you to spin out.

Happy racing!

I have found during my experience, that it is generally better to do these at night, as if you are using the agency supercar, hitting the freaks will not slow you down, there will be no civilian traffic or pedestrians to worry about so you can focus more on where you need to go, obviously this is different for everyone but it works for me so i figured id share lol. Finally, the handbrake is your friend, use it to dictate your entry angle into a bend then power down, used effectively this can be a diference maker. hope this helps.

There are a total of 15 Road Races in Pacific City. They are found on your mini map as purple checkered flags. Once you complete each race you earn a big boost in your driving skill.
