How to unlock the Ring Leader achievement in Crackdown - Definitive Guide

I’ve just finished doing this achievement solo, and I can tell you it’s long and frustrating. Candied Skull’s excellent guide is the most definitive resource but it is no longer available on the web in its original form. Follow the instructions below and you'll still be able to access his maps and videos for the stunt rings. Additionally, I wanted to share some amendments and advanced techniques I used for some of the tougher stunts.

Edit 3/3/2012:

After a lot of searching, I've finally found copies of CandiedSkull's original maps. Please note, I've uploaded these to my personal web space to ensure everyone can see them - I would kindly ask that other solution posters do not copy these links without permission. I would prefer you copy these maps and mirror them on your own web space to ensure the community doesn't lose them again.

Edit 19th August 2021 - The previous Dropbox links had stopped working, so the three maps are now on this Imgur album:
https://imgur.com/a/vr7ovxI

The way to read these maps is as follows: start at the yellow dot then then drive along the red line to the stunt ring. You'll need the numbered video from CandiedSkull's original YouTube channel, which still exists through this link:

http://www.youtube.com/user/CandiedSkull/
Search his videos for "Crackdown Stunt" once you're at the site.

The notes below are best used once you've watched Candied Skull's video for a particular stunt. All too often, he'll show the best way is to have a co-op partner help, which isn't very useful if you're doing this solo. If I’ve not mentioned a ring below, it’s because the Candied Skull guide worked like a charm.

Firstly, general tips:

1)
Only use the Agency SUV! The B button allows for a bunny hop, which helps you gain altitude when combined with a ramp.

2)
Many of the rings with roofs underneath can be achieved just by getting your SUV under them (usually by creatively throwing your SUV up) and then bunny hopping (hold B then release) into them. See Candied Skull's solution for #33 as an example.

3)
The game will allow you to position one ramp truck and it will stay put until you move it or another truck. Even if you die and respawn, the truck will still be there. However, if you attempt to position a second ramp truck, the first will disappear as soon as it is out of view.

4)
If you have problems with traffic obscuring your run up, wait until nightfall – the roads are a lot less congested then.

5)
Keep track of each stunt you do and keep checking that the amount of rings you've done matches the count shown in game when you complete a ring. If your tally doesn't match, you've missed one. This is very important - a lot of people (wrongly) assume the game has glitched because they think they've done a ring when they actually haven't, especially when they assume they've done a ring because they can't trigger it (it may be they're not doing the right thing to trigger it instead). If you can do this on a fresh playthrough where you know you haven't hit most rings, this can be a big help.

*** So in summary, when attempting a ring: ***

1) Look at the map to find the ring and the correct approach
2) Look up Candied Skull's video on youtube
3) Check my notes below to see if there's anything to add
4) Attempt the stunt

And now for the notes:

#16 & #28
I found both of these easier to throw your SUV and a ramp truck up onto the roof below, then use a different vehicle to trigger the ring. Climb the building and get ready for a very easy jump.

#24:
After a lot of messing around, I agree that throwing your SUV up onto the fist is the way to go here. I found stealing a normal truck, placing it in the groove around the fist and then jumping from there to throw made it easier. Once you’re done, follow Candied Skull’s video, and be careful not to drive off the fist!

#27
Don't even attempt using a ramp to get this one, it's easy to get your SUV up there by throwing. Don't try it in one throw, use the surrounding buildings as steps.

#29
It's actually possible to carefully place your SUV on the metal walkway. There's a square area on the right end that you can place your SUV and line it up. Then trigger your ring with a different vehicle and jump up to the walkway. Carefully drive along and do a bunny hop under the ring to hit it.

#30
The only way I could get this was to position a ramp truck at the end of the Agency tunnel. Expect a lot of retries here as you tweak the truck's position to get it 'just right'.

#31
I think Candied Skull may have got the trigger wrong for this one, it seemed to appear for me every time I exited the Agency tunnel. After many tries, I moved the ramp truck about 10 feet left of the location in the video, so that it is on the left sidewalk, still next to the crossing. Best done at night when there's less traffic about.

#34 & #35
Although the logical thing to do here would be to set up a ramp truck each side of the alley, anyone who’s tried will tell you that one of them will vanish as soon as you turn your back. I found that using the truck to go through #34 and then driving up the wall was the easiest way of getting #35. So here's how to do it: immediately after jumping #34 (or going through the motions again to trigger #35), drive through the alley to the side with the 'screw' monument, then turn round. Drive under the ring and use the left wall to reach it: face the wall square on and then apply a small amount of gas; then when you're vertical, hold the B button and add more gas and you should drive up the wall and hit the ring. You don't have an unlimited amount of time to do this, so be careful.

#37
I found this to be a total pain in the neck. Next to the main road that Candied Skulls ramp truck is on, there's a higher road with a ramp each end that joins the main road. I positioned my ramp truck at the eqivalent position on the higher road, just before the road starts to slope down. I then started my run up from under the green sign way down the road.

[EDIT] If you're having trouble with this one (and I know I did), Willkat98 has posted another approach in the comments to this solution. Thanks Willkat98.

#38
I found the best place for the ramp truck to be just in front of the circular piece of road in front of the office.

Good luck and if you're having trouble with a particular ring, leave a comment and I'll try to help.

Nice tips mate. I followed Candiedskulls video guide for locations and used most of your tips as i was doing these on my own. My problem is that i'm stuck on 38/39 and have no idea if the game has messed up on me or i simply missed 1. I managed to get rings 34 and 35 in the same jump and they both registered so it cant be that. I'll go to each point again but have you got any idea what might have gone wrong? I did get around 5 rings while doing the bosses in coop.

Never mind. just figured it out. it was one of the two rings in the shai-gen area in the alley way. had to jump over the low pipe to trigger the last ring.

I found a much easier solution to #37.

At the beginning of CandiedSkulls video, you see him trigger the ring and jump out of the car and onto the expressway.

Right at the point he jumps out of the car (right past the ring's trigger point) just through the intersection, set up the ramp.

Then just back up in the SUV, gun it, get through the intersection without hitting traffic, hit the ramp and you go right through the ring.

I think this is how it was set up to be done, as you are going perfectly through the circle. Using the expressway is too risky as there is too much traffic and you need a second person to block ramp traffic.

Also, every single one of these rings can be done solo, without being thrown by a second person. They are pretty easy actually always with ramp trucks in the general vicinity when needed.

Thanks Willkat98, I've added a note to point folks to your comment. I did these solo and it is because CandiedSkull resorts to co-op solutions that I decided to write these notes.

And thanks Bassman, as I did indeed use your notes. For some reason, these stunt rings were a total pain in the neck 3 years ago or so and then I put the game down. After completing the insane rings in Crackdown2, I popped this first Crackdown back into the 360. Only had 16 rings but after about 2 hours was up to 32.

I think Crackdown2 helped me think "outside the box" and get these solo.

Heck, I got quite a few just by sticking to the wall and riding up the buildings!

Anyway, thanks for the additional write up for working on the rings solo Bassman. I forgot to thank you in my first comment properly!

You may want to add to your guide that if you are going to do the stunt rings in Co-op, you have to trigger the rings twice in order for both people to get credit. You have to be the physical driver of the vehicle that is going through the rings in order to get credit. But after one of you gets credit, the other person can just throw his friend through the rings.

Also, if you both have already gotten credit for the ring it will no longer be visible.

About ring #25:

Might it help if the second player shoots rockets at you while youre abouve the ship, just before the ring? The problem seems the be that the ring is just a bit to far/high. Explosives might help with that. And no, explosives don't destroy the car instantly ;)

@Basanakin - I did it solo just by getting plenty of speed up, but I admit it took many tries. Rockets may work, but it's very easy to go off course - but hey, if you've got a pal willing to try it, see how it goes.

Aside from the frustration of attaining some rings solo, I had relatively little trouble completing all of the stunt rings...until I discovered that -- despite following the two guides (both the videos and the maps) I had 35/39 rings. How is this possible, you may ask? Well, I systematically went through all of the maps again (now familiar with the locations of the markers) and checked them all off one by one. But guess what? For whatever reason, rings 27, 28, and 29 (and possibly 26, though I can't get it to appear again) were still around. I distinctly remember obtaining each of them, and yet there they were, waiting to be triggered again. As of this post, I still don't know what the last ring I'm missing is. I'm positive I obtained all of the ones in Shai Gen (even the tricky two in the alleyway) as I did them all yesterday in one run. The disappearance of these rings is bullshit. This is why game developers need to include a method of tracking progress in achievements like this.

At any rate, the moral is to make sure that you track your progress diligently to prevent frustration. I thought I was doing so, but I was wrong.

@Cellar Attic - that sucks man, that's why I included #5 in the general tips above. In any case, if you're sure you did them all and the game isn't registering, I guess tracking your own progress still has very little use. Are you playing the game unpatched?

Iirc, I did all the orbs and the stunt rings on a new save, just so I knew that there should be one in each location. You could try that, I guess - it shouldn't take you long if you just focus on getting your driving ability high enough for the 4-star SUV. There should be plenty of weak enemies to run over.

I'm fairly sure that the ring I'm missing is in the Volk, probably either #25 or #26. What I have noticed is that the rings I "re-obtained" showed up in co-op as long as the other player is nearby and hasn't flew through them yet. My hope is that I can get the last one this one sometime day. If not I'll be forced to do them all over again. I'm not going to leave this game unfinished with one achievement lingering. I will post again if it works.

All right, I figured this bastard out. It seems that I missed number #11 somehow. The last time I played Crackdown was in 2008, and I recently popped it back in to finish off some stray achievements (the orbs and the racing ones, to be precise). I had acquired some of the rings then, and because I went back to obtain rings 9 and 10 I assumed I had already acquired it. I watched the video from the other guide and there the ring was already visible, but it did not show how this was done. I assumed (wrongly, it turns out) that the ring was an easy one and I had obtained it back in 2008.

So, all of that being said, know that you have to go around the right side of the top of the parking garage (and thus slightly under the ramp where you launch off for 9 and 11). Knowing this would have saved me so much time. Alas. I'm just glad the hunt is over.

Still, the fact remains that some of the rings I obtained just recently, as mentioned in a previous post, did not register. I don't know why this happened, but be wary of it.

I'm stuck with 38/39 used the map guides videos and people's comments. I did 34 and 35 twice with two different people and those are registered and I got 11 as well after viewing cellars comment. I'm pretty sure the one I'm missing is in Los Muertos the only rings I'm unsure of are 13 and 32 I can't get them to trigger so I think I have them but any advice or co op help would've nice I don't want to restart

I did #24 last night but when I drove past it today the ring lit up again - looks like there's a glitch sometimes which counts the ring and then "uncounts" it.

I was stuck on 25, then did it twice today easily. What I did:

1.) Once you jump the first gap, drive across the cargo containers slowly to see if you car is positioned correctly for a straight run. Adjust accordingly. Doing this ensures your jump run will be straight and true.

2.) Go down the ramp at full speed. When you hit the ramp, press B. Release B just before you leave the ramp. This gives you extra lift that will help you hit the ring.

3.) Be sure the ring is still active. One time I did a almost perfect run - it would have been perfect except the ring timer expired and the ring vanished while I was in flight :(

I cannot for the life of me get #23 in Volk to appear. It's one of the easiest rings. It's right by a stunt truck that is there by default. I've approached it from every road and angle, even the angle of approach it suggests from the CandiedSkull maps. No idea to even make it appear...

Nice guide! Just used it to get my Ring Leader achievement. One note, #24 the trigger is to the east of the fist, not the west as shown on CS map.

Ended up.having 37/39 at the end and went back and found the fist was one. I was messing around to the west trying to trigger and thought I had gotten it before starting to use the guide. Approached from the east and bam! Ring Leader.

24 is a bitch to get. For me, the ring only lights up ONCE no matter how many times I drive over the trigger, coupled with the fact that I have no idea how to get onto the stone fist, making it downright impossible for me to obtain.

As for 25, I tried exactly what CS did in the video, backing up as much as I can onto the first yellow container (and falling several times trying to get it just right) and on those rare moments when I actually do line it up perfectly, it turns out that I can't build enough speed and I miss the ring literally by mere inches...

Thanks for preserving the maps, the red lines at the very least show which direction you need to approach to get the ring to appear. So even if the video solution used 2 players, I could find a way to at least come up with my own strategy.

I went through the whole list and ended up with 38/39. Ive trippled the list and cannot figure out what im missing. I knew I'd have to go back and find one I'd missed. I went to hit 22 and realised it wasnt there (got it during various other tasks). Seemed like it would be simple but ive tripple checked everything and have no idea what I could be missing. Short of starting again which I want no part of because this game was absolute garbage. Lost

I didn't see this mentioned in the solution and although I didn't read all the comments I'm guessing no one said this yet but...

You don't have to actually do them, all you need is a friend in coop to throw you in the car into the rings. The hardest part is finding them and once you do that it's really fast, my friend and I started today and knocked out all of Los Muertos in about 20 minutes. It shouldn't take more than an hour to throw eachother through all 39 lol sorry to see all you guys who did it solo and had a bitch of a time jumping them.

Hope this helps!

For #37 i put the ramp on top of the parking garage right next to where you trigger the jump, i put the truck as far forward as i could and backed of with the Agency SUV as far as possible and just hit the gas, You need to line it up perfectly,(traffic won't bother you) and if you fail you will most likely end up in the water so you will have to go and get a new SUV. Took me about 10-20 tries.

I can confirm what PeriodicRx said. You have to approach number 24 from the other direction on the highway in order to trigger it. Here is a corrected map showing the trigger location https://www.dropbox.com/s/78p177lw5ej7w76/CrackdownStun....jpg. I recommend having your SUV already on the fist before triggering, then trigger in any vehicle.

Its probably worth noting that the game does not auto save after you do each ring. If you turn off the game or dashboard out it will not save the jumps you have done. The agility orbs are the same, I had to recollect several because I powered down without quitting.

If you're stuck on 25 it can be done in co-op by building a 3 high pyramid of cargo containers on the highest level on the boat and having your partner lift your car and throw you through the ring.

If you have trouble with ring#36 to go up to the structure, follow this youtube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohlUAlhbe_s

The trick is you have to use Agency SUV, hold B for all the time to go up. SUV would stick on the surface without falling.

Advice for people who have 37 or 38/39 or those going for this achievement. Write down the numbers 1 through 39 and put an X on them if you totally know that you got them and witnessed it and a \ to say that you didn't see it or may have gotten it before. After going through the whole thing I ended up with 37/39 and I only had 6-8 rings left. I backtracked on them and discovered that I did a few wrong.

Specifically for mine #3 didn't show up when I went to do the jump the first time and #11 I thought hovered in the street but it turns out that I had to go up to the bottom top part of the parking structure for it to appear.

Also for those starting DO THESE BEFORE DOING THE RACES. I've heard that getting a ring while doing them leads to the ring disappearing and not counting. Good luck!

I do not know if that's already mentionned into the comments but CandieSkull videos assume you have a partner for a lot of stunts.

If you're like me and do not have a buddy willing to help you on this boring achievement, just check out the "Rowin268" videos on Youtube. I followed them and achieve all stunts alone with ease!

Even if he doesn't mention CandieSkull maps, I checked and stunt numbers on maps are the same in Rowin268 videos, except for #37 and #38, they are swapped.

When I started this I noted down every single stunt jump that I completed and which ones didnt appear. When I was done with them all I still needed one more. I went back to all the 7 locations I had not gotten a stunt ring to appear and they were all easy locations so I thought the game had glitched on me. But then I tried going into COOP and then having a friend activate the rings and then having me jump through them, I jumped through all of them BUT ONE didnt activate. Even for my friend who had never played the game before.

It was the 17th one, the one on the villa where the kingpin Garcia is. I tried a lot of angles and it never appeared, until I finally got it to appear. Apparantly you need to drive off the mountain near the supply point to get it to appear, you cant just drive off the highway and then drive into the villa, then it wont appear. You need to take your SUV up on the mountain and then drive it down. I was fucking happy when I got it, I thought I needed to start a new save.

Finally done with this bullshit achievement, now for the orbs, hoping I have more luck there. Good luck to anyone going for this achievement!

I can't get 22 to appear. Is there a specific way to activate it?

If you activate a ring does it no longer show up? Maybe somehow I already got it during regular play and don't remember but I really don't think so as my completed count matches what it should be minus ring 22.

According to this video https://youtu.be/phCJIqJn-34 the ring disappeared. Player goes backward and then forward, it reappears...

From what I can remember, yes, if you achieve a stunt, its ring does not appear anymore

BlickTibo's tip from July 4th, 2016 for finding the Rowin268 playlist on YouTube did the trick for me. Followed the videos and popped the achievement just as expected.

I don't see this explicitly mentioned in this guide or the others, but I would add that the stunt markers you haven't driven through yet only spawn when you drive to a specific spot. There were a couple I had trouble with (#11 and #14) because I didn't start in the right spot on the parking garage.

Follow the Candied Skull playlist on YouTube and you should be fine. Just did most of these solo today after not having touched the game in years.

I don't know hot to add a guide but it was just to say whoever implies doesn't glitch is fake, i spent 10 hours seeking the last, sometimes i don't count because i barely can't read the bad contrast text, but it was fine looking again every point that i alredy had memorized seeking hours and hours

I know this is an old solution, but me and a friend just did all of these, and only the HOST's will count. COOP partner will load the game and have no progress towards this achievement. If you're doing this do it SOLO not with a buddy.

It’s been a long time since I played this game but do the stunt rings disappear after you done them, can’t find any on the first island.

Here is a reupload of the old stunt ring maps which seem to have disappeared from most solutions. Use these along with the Youtube playlist.

Number 11 is extremely Strick you have to be exactly, where the map points or else it won't spawn. Number 25 is complete RNG. 31 and 37 are the worst and require around an hour each. Most of which is respawning and getting a new SUV and 37 gives you enough time for exactly one try before the ring disappears the ramp truck also despawns after so many tries.

Did you have trouble getting no. 23 to start? It won’t show the ring, no matter where I drive, it won’t show, and when he did mention a stunt marker, there was nothing there, invisible. it’s the last one I need and it’s P-ing me off ffs. Any tips? Thanks

Just wanted to add the playlist of all the Stunt Rings. That way you dont have to search for each video =)

Credit goes to CandiedSkull for the videos and HeyMrBassMan for pointing out the videos

@HeyMrBassman. Firstly thanks for the guide. +1 positive.

Special Thanks to: KATAKL1ZM

I was also stuck on 39/39. I followed the video guide with a friend as we were doing all stunt rings coop. As she got hers I got mine, UNTIL ring 26, then for some reason I was 1 ring behind. We continued until ring 39. Where I was 38/39. I tried to retry all rings again (even following advice from posts above) but none would reactivate.

Solution: I used a second account and started from The Agency, got my second account to trigger the First ring, nothing happened, HOWEVER on the second ring. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!

Conclusion: This achievement can glitch, but can also be fixed without needing a second play-through.

Hope this helps someone.
I still have my second account if anyone needs help.

Wait until you have maxed out driving skill (see "Agency Wheelman") and get an Agency SUV (for the jump ability) to reach the stunt rings. The tricky thing about the stunt markers is they will only be visible when you drive near them, and in some cases, only when you drive at them from a certain angle.
