To earn the Key on Sunset Vista, you'll need to collect all 3 Dr. Neo Cortex tokens then complete the TNT minigame in the bonus area. Below is a 100% guide to the level with all Boxes, Clear Gem, Tokens and the location of the Key.

I've finished this level twice with picking up the key yet at the end it won't give it to me. Finished Once with dying and once without.
When i got the clear box gem i was too keen and didn't pick up the key. I've seen some people saying they can only be picked up together? Possible glitch here?

@UK GOLYMONSTER, repeat the level and get the key at the cortex bonus portion of sunset vista and finish the level MISSING a few boxes and the achievement should unlock along with the key.

The Key is earned by finding the three Cortex Character Tokens, granting access to a bonus stage, and then you need to destroy all boxes in that bonus stage. At the end, Cortex will drop a Key (instead of zipping off with the female bandicoot). Pick it up, and then finish the rest of the level like normal to collect it and unlock this achievement.
In terms of finding all three Cortex Tokens, which are typically better hidden than others, refer to the 100% video guide in C1 | The Ultimate Gem Path (70G), as you're required to meet the requirements of this achievement to get the clear gem in Sunset Vista.
