you'lll unlock the Fruit Bazooka. Enter level 9 and look at the face of the Sphinx/Cortex immediately in front of you. Hold
to get out the bazooka and press 
to fire. Slowly search the sides of the headdress until the target turns red. The spot is hard to find, so I've included a video of where it is. If you shoot it correctly, an extra life will pop out.

Does it work only once? This may be an easy way to earn lifes by winning the extra lives, saving then reloading the game and restarting these steps.

I can confirm that you can do this for additional lives multiple times. If you have auto save enabled, start mission 9, get the lives, quit to the mission hub, load the last auto save, and repeat.

In this guide I will show you how to unlock this easy secret achievement.
The only things that you have to do, are to go into the 9th level (Tomb time) and shot with the bazooka, at the start of the level, on the two sides of the sphynx, and earn the two extra lifes. That's all.

Located in level 9. Warp into the level and kill the snake. Then take out your bazooka and aim at the sphinx. The lines that line up with cortex's lip should make a sound as you aim on them. Shoot to get the achievement. If it doesn't pop shoot the other side as well

On the level Tomb Time, there is a hidden life at the very start of the level. Aim with the bazooka and fire repeatedly at the lower left corner of the sphinx's head, shifting your aim until you hit it.

You'll first need to progress and complete the fourth warp zone, defeating N. Gin, to unlock the bazooka. Now, revisit Level 9, Tomb Time. You start the level outside looking at a Sphinx. You need to shoot a nearly-imperceptible target on its face. In reality, all you'll see is your cross hair turn red indicating you're aiming at something you can shoot/break. Doing so gives you an extra life. It's tough to describe in words where the target is, so refer to the screenshot below.
