Crown Trick

Familiars are Elite enemies you've defeated which can be summoned to fight by your side. Elite enemies are identified by their large boss-type health bars inside the dungeon. There is one Elite per floor to defeat and you won't always fight a new one, so this will take multiple runs to get each Familiar in every zone.

After completing the tutorial you receive your first familiar and the game provides you 5 additional familiars by default to get you started. This unlocked for me when I successfully defeated 5 Elites (including the tutorial Firebreather) and recorded their entries in the encyclopedia.
