Start in Scandinavia as Duke Björn Ironside of Uppland, build up your empire and swarm Britannia once you're strong enough. Starting in England as Ivar or Halfdan will get you stuck between strong kingdoms, you'll have issues with religion and culture. Scandinavia is a lot more homogenous in that regard. You only have to start as one of the characters, you may of course die and continue with your heir. I finished around 950~.

Jarl Ivar is the best option. he is young and his special troops will help you. I'm not so professional but I managed to get the achievement in 1 generation. first conquer the Irish tribes and become king of Ireland. wait till halfdan dies so his realm get divided and weak. you don't need to wait so much he's 41 yo. Conquer Mercia, York and other northern English duchy's. Use your subjugation war on Alba and your invasion war on wessex but make sure Canterbury is under christian rule because the last thing you need is a crusade for England. now the only thing left is small tribes to conquer and then you get the Achievement.
