If you are just after this achievement and want it within 20 years of a characters life there is a really easy method.
Start in 1066 as any independent Count or a Count within the Byzantine Empire. A good one to pick is Count Sergios of Napoli who is just below the Papacy.
As soon as it starts offer to become a Vassal of the Byzantine Emperor (the purple land to the East) get the Metirocracy perk and start a scheme against the Byzantine Emperor for his throne. While the scheme is running start picking up perks in the Schemer tree until you get the Kidnapper perk. Once you have the title and the Kidnap perk start an abduction scheme against the Emperor.
Add agents to the scheme, make sure you are paused, and bribe all the agents that you possible can. This will put you into a lot of debt but this doesnt really matter. Keep speeding through until you have the Emperor in your prison.
Start a Faction or join a Faction that will put you on the throne and press your demands. The Emperor will start a war with you and you can instantly enforce your demands and now you are Emperor of the Byzantine Empire.
