This achievement can be done with any character, so I would highly recommend using Bard since he is the easiest character to play. Phasing Mode is a new addition with the Amplified DLC. It's gimmick is that you permanently have the phasing effect from the Ring of Phasing, which was taken out of the game with the DLC. It makes it so that you can not dig walls, but instead walk through them. Enemies that can't do the same can't do anything to you while you are in a wall, but the same is true about you to them. You can still place bombs while in walls, though. Because of this, a good torch is integral to the run, while shovels are almost all useless. The mode as a whole is pretty easy, it takes some getting used to the alternative style of play.
