How to unlock the Level 4 Completed on Hard achievement in Crypt of the Serpent King - Definitive Guide
The only help i can give for this whole game is that the platforms on the third level are 10 times harder than the platforms in the other levels mostly because they're gradually raised which means when you go to jump off the platform back to the normal floor you have a chance of kinda run glitching and your jump doesn't count and you end up running into the lava so my only solution is to VERY slowly walk down the pointed edge of the platform until your near the end and then jump. Also running before jumping doesn't do anything so avoid running as it can make you fall into the lava.
This level could use an updated guide since a Jan 2017 patch fixed the difficulty issues with the platforming.
The platforms have been changed from hexagonal raised platforms with stairs to simple, flat square ones that are amenable to basic running jumps.
I once again opted to lure all 24 or so Skeletons back to the key rooms to fight them across the lava pits.
So the strategy was
- find an initial key room
- explore the hallways radiating out from a key room until you encounter another key room or a skeleton enemy
- if you encounter a skeleton, lead them back to the key room behind you. You are much faster than the skeleton, so you may have to pause or double back to reactivate him if you have to lead him long distances.
- jump on to the lava platform.
- If the skeleton follows you to the edge, hit him 3 times to kill him. My stats at this point were (Strength/Endurance/Agility) were 1/1/6. I missed lots of XP on the 1st 3 levels due to enemies killing themselves in pits and avoiding all goblins in Level 2. I purchased the Halberd by this point, so my reach across the gap was much improved. The skeletons sometimes spin around twice, especially after getting two hits on them. Unfortunately, they occasionally fall into the lava pit before you can kill them, denying you of some XP. I believe about 3-4 skeletons killed themselves while I killed 21.
- If the skeleton doesn't follow you to the edge, deactivates far away or gets stuck on a pillar, you will have to jump back and across again to reactivate him, sometimes a few times until he is in range.
- if you encounter another key room, start using this as your base of operations, exploring connecting hallways and luring skeletons back
- clean up the level once everything has been uncovered, picking up any remaining chests. I collected 5-6k in gold.
The final boss is a reptile with two axes and a double swing attack. I made it to the boss with 100 HP.
I used a very tight circle strafe technique with great success without getting hit once. I essentially let the boss get face-to-face while holding the left analog stick in place around the 7-8 o'clock position. The boss will constantly do his double swing axe attack, but he couldn't hit me as long as I kept moving to his right/my left in a clockwise direction.
I would then occasionally tap the Right analog stick while constantly holding the Left to try to aim my own attacks while continuing to spin. I would then attack WITHOUT stopping my spin, trying to time it after the boss' own double attack.
About 50% of my attacks landed and it took about 6-8 hits to down him.
