similarly to what you did, i dodged all the enemies in this level as their attacks are too frustrating to deal with with no food around. however, i picked up loot when possible as it will make the game easier in the end. also, when fighting the endboss of this level, try and keep him on the X where the grates meet on the floor. any closer to you and he'll back you up against the wall and swipe you out.

Thats what I ended up doing. I feel that this should've been Level 6 or 7 because I think this is the hardest Level besides the final one with the snakes.

I have to agree 100%. This definitely should have been level 6.

The final boss of this level is in a room smaller than the other bosses. The devs tried to compensate by allowing you to double hit the boss each time. The boss will be stun-locked after hitting it allowing you to get one more hit in each time.

What a miserable floor / boss / game. Is there a way to kite him out of the room without getting trapped in there with him?

I thought this was MUCH harder than level 7. With the doors on 7, no snakes can sneak up on you. And since there are no islands in this level, there's nowhere to hide and regroup. Anyway though, what I did was purchase a weapon upgrade. I know the thinking is to never spend anything until you can get the sword, but with the way the math works out, you can buy the mace upgrade and still get the sword at the same point you would have otherwise. The mace let me kill the goblins in 3 hits instead of 4, and that made all the difference with both them and the boss.

Also worth noting that you can kite the goblins through the fire, which damages them. Not sure if you get any XP for doing that, but if you get into one of those spots where there are 2-4 of them coming after you at the same time, you can use that tactic to thin the herd. I also had some luck hugging a wall with a drainpipe sticking out, and that would always catch one of the ones following me so that I could just fight 1:1.

Fuck this level though, damn.

I struggled with this level but came back to it four laugh years later.

So, there is a glitch to get the boss stuck in the gate.

The way I completed this was to get all the keys and the gold, then go to the boss gate. Make sure you are safe from those pesky goblins. To get the exploit to work, run into the middle and quickly out. The boss will run towards the gate and get stuck. Once he stops moving, open the gate and smack him as the gate is coming down. If you hit him too early, he will get out of the gate. If he escapes, try and take him to the fire. Rinse and repeat.

The solution has been upvoted this week, and I would be surprised if a patch was released recently for this game, 7 years after release.

I mashed together two techniques mentioned by two different commenters on the Level 2 on Medium guide.

1) I didn't fight any of the goblins.

I found I couldn't brawl with even the 1st goblin without getting hit at least once, even with equipping the mace and Agility 2 (I only had one 1 upgrade point, used the lava pits in Level 1 to kill 50% of the kobolds.

I then tried kiting the goblins through the fire, but it didn't damage them fast enough.

So I just turned around and ran if I encountered any goblins. I didn't manage to pick up much gold. If I basically just ran around gathering the 9 keys.

If there wasn't an alternate path past the goblin,

A) I would use the pillars in the key rooms to kite the goblins around in a circle to clear the hallway or
B) I would charge and jump when I reached the goblin to get around them, running away once I got to the other side

Pros
- very quick, cleared the level with 1st try with this technique in under 15 mins
- reached the boss with 60 HP

Cons
- barely picked up any gold
- only received XP from the boss
- audio cue indicating an enemy is approaching pretty much played throughout the run whether enemies were close or not, making me anxious and making it hard to tell when you are actually in trouble

2) I got the boss to glitch out on the gate.

It is possible to activate the boss and still get back out of the room before the gate closes, as mentioned by a poster in the Level 2 Medium guide.

It does require some practice, but you can run almost to the intersection of the grates on the floor and still get out again, with the gate closing again, the boss activated and still stuck in the room.

If you don't go in far enough to activate him but still get out again before it closes, you can try again with "X".

If you go too far, unfortunately you are now trapped in there and fighting him.

Unfortunately, you can't hit the boss through the gate, so you have to carefully open it again with "X" to release him.

If you are successful in activating the boss AND getting back out of the room before the gates close:

A) on Level 2 Medium, I used this strategy to lure the boss out of the room, by opening up the gate a second time and allowing him to escape to fight him in the hallway where there is more room to maneuver

B) on Level 2 Hard, the boss seemed to get stuck on the inside of the closed gate. If I opened it again, he remained motionless until I crept up and attacked him, although he would still counterattack, so I had to retreat quickly.

The gate would then close again, with him still stuck inside. He would spin around once, and then return to being motionless. The timing and positioning to perform the sequence of "open gate/rush forward/hit boss/backup to not get hit" all before the gate closes again required some practice, but I only got hit twice and downed him in about 6-8 hits.

Another wrinkle is whether or not the goblins that I ran away from can follow you all the way to the final boss battle.

I still had goblins pursuing me when I reached the boss' cage with the 9 keys, although they were too far away to be visible. The enemy "chase music" was still playing when I reached the boss, but cut out as soon as I hit "X" to open the gate.

I kept a close eye looking over my shoulder for goblins between turns opening the gate to take a swing at the boss, but I never saw any. Since I never had to leave the hallway in front of the boss' room as the boss glitched out, I could see the goblins you didn't kill to be a problem if you lure the boss out of his room and have to travel further dowm the hallway to fight him.
