To unlock this achievement, you first need to unlock the following:
This achievement is just the Checkmate achievement, except it is all at once! So get ready, get comfortable, you may be here for a while. The battles need to be completed in sequence without failing. If you do fail, you gotta start back at the initial battle with the Pawns. Now, let's get into tips for the battles.
Pawns
This fight isn't too intense. Especially if you are playing as Ms. Chalice as you don't even need to jump, just dash into any part of the Pawn's body to successfully parry them. Once all of the Pawns have lost their heads, you'll have completed this battle.
The Knight
This fight is probably the most annoying one for me, so I was glad it was only the second one! Now, my main tip is to make sure you stay close to the Knight. I know, sounds weird. But he is taunting you for a reason. If you back off and keep a wide distance between you and the Knight, he will perform an extremely cheap move that sends him across the screen extremely quick, attacking you with very little time to react.
Just stay close to him and parry whenever he has an opening.
The Bishop
I liked this fight a lot. Just ensure you are constantly moving from candle to candle, putting them out as soon as possible until the Bishop's head is once again pink (so you can parry it). Then parry him and rinse and repeat. Once the entire group of candles is lit up, that is the final phase of the fight and you'll need to put each of them out to get your last hit in on him.
The Rook
This fight is interesting. It's not exactly difficult, but it can get overwhelming very quickly. The basic breakdown of the fight is: Parry pink heads until they hit the Rook. My recommendation is to make sure you are going for safe parries, where you can land safely and then continue to juggle the head.
As you get more hits in on the Rook, more sparks come flying and more heads start popping out. Just be extremely careful, taking your time, making smart movements and watching the floor so you don't land on a spark coming at you.
The Queen
This fight is the most unique one in my opinion. You have 3 cannons that can only be fired one at a time, and they move around. Meaning you need to wait for the Queen to line-up with the cannon's attacks, and you need to avoid all of the incoming attacks from the queen at the same time. This fight is honestly not too hard, because if you are good with your aim on the cannons, you can take the Queen down pretty quick.

You must return to the map after you fail. Otherwise the achievement will not unlock if you just hit retry
This doesn't seem to be definite, but it seems common that this DLC's achievements are bugged, so exiting to the map to restart may help prevent your achievement from being bugged and not popping on your successful run. It may be worth a shot to avoid repeating the Gauntlet, however I did not do this and just hit retry and it unlocked for me.Check the comments to see if others encountered similar issues to yours! As you explore Inkwell Isle IV, you will find a few wooden ladders that drop from the sky. These ladders give you access to The King's Leap area where you can fight the King of Games' Champions: Pawns, a Knight, a Bishop, a Rook, and a Queen. Your weapons and charms are disabled and instead, the champions are damaged and defeated solely by parrying.
After defeating them individually, you will unlock an achievement: You can then practice them individually so that you are prepared to fight them all in a row as part of the King's Gauntlet.
You can play as Cuphead/Mugman or Ms. Chalice, depending on which better suits your playstyle. This video will show a complete run with Cuphead:
The Pawns:
Eight pawns will drop down from above, one at a time, in increasing speed. Your goal is to parry their pink heads and avoid already defeated pawns until you are able to parry the final one.
The Knight:
The Knight has three distinct tells that you need to be prepared to react to quickly. With each move that he does, if you react correctly and quickly enough, you can safely parry his pink mohawk twice.
1)
The Knight will crouch with his sword in both hands, after which he will stab straight up with his sword. As soon as you see this tell, jump onto his head and parry him twice.
2)
The Knight will rear back and hold his sword horizontally in one hand, after which he will dash across the area. As soon as you see this tell, jump onto his head to parry once, then dash to follow him, quickly jumping onto his head to parry him a second time.
3)
The Knight will make a goofy open mouth face, after which he does a wide arc of damage. As soon as you see this tell, dash out of his range, then jump onto his head to parry him twice.
The Knight is defeated after 20 parries.
The Bishop:
This Bishop is a floating head that occasionally spits out bells which, after a second or two, move towards you in a straight line. There are 10 candles around the area and over the course of several 'waves,' you need to touch any lit candles to extinguish them, turning the Bishop's head pink so you can parry it, all the while avoiding contact with the bells and the Bishop's head. Every few waves, after being parried, the Bishop will disappear and reappear somewhere else to start of the next wave.
In the final wave, all 10 candles are lit, and after extinguishing them all and parrying him, he is defeated.
The Rook:
The Rook spends the entirety of this battle grinding an axe on the right side of the screen, constantly emitting pink heads and white skulls in an arc and eventually sparks in a straight line. You need to carefully parry the pink heads in such a way that they are directed back into the Rook, which usually takes two parries per head. With increased damage, the Rook shoots heads, skulls, and sparks with increased intensity, making it difficult to manage everything at once. You want to try to time your jumps/parries so that you hit the pink heads as you jump over sparks- it's all too easy to lose focus on the sparks while concentrating on the heads.
Defeat him by hitting him with nine pink heads.
The Queen:
The Queen constantly moves back and forth in the back of the area. There are three cannons in the foreground which are continually being rotated by mice. These cannons have a parriable ring on their wick that, when parried, causes the cannon to shoot a cannonball in the direction is it facing. This parriable ring rotates perpetually through the three cannons. Your goal is to parry the 'active' cannon when it is lined up in such a way that the cannonball will hit the Queen based on her position in the background.
The Queen will do two distinct things to make this complicated.
1) She will smash her staff on the ground, causing a tall pink tower to land on either side of the area, which then moves across to the other side- you must parry it to destroy it.
2) She will launch a shower of small projectiles for several seconds that you must avoid, indicated when she pulls out two treasure boxes on pillows in either hand.
After hitting her seven times, she is defeated.
After defeating them individually, you will unlock an achievement: You can then practice them individually so that you are prepared to fight them all in a row as part of the King's Gauntlet.

During your journey in Inkwell Island IV, you will see a ladder coming from the sky. By climbing the ladder, you will reach The King's Leap. This is a new area that works like an arena. The King here, will test you by fighting his minions: The Pawn, The Knight, The Bishop, The Rook and The Queen. All 5 bosses can be killed only by parrying them in their weak spot or by throwing items to them. Once you defeat all 5 bosses, a new challenge will be available: the King's Gauntlet.
The Gauntlet is just a boss rush: you will fight all 5 bosses one after another. Luckily, your HP will be restored between fights. To get this trophy and Checkmate , you need to defeat all 5 bosses to unlock the gauntlet and after that, you need to complete the gauntlet. Every time you defeat a boss, the king will provide you with new coins and the King's Leap will move to another part of the island.
STRATEGIES:
THE PAWN
THE BISHOP
Parry the pink head he will throw to you and throw them back to him. Beware of skulls and sparks on the ground.
THE QUEEN

STRATEGIES:
THE PAWN
The pawns are quite easy to beat. You need to parry every one of them when they come down to you. Just avoid the bodies and aim for the heads.
THE KNIGHT
The Knight was the hardest for me. You need to parry him in the helm 20 times and you can hit him only during short amount of time. He has three attacks, with only 2 of them that will give you the time to hit him. You need to be very close to him before he can be able to attack you, so be prepared:
- Upward Slash: it will use the sword by making an half circle in his head. After the attack, he can be quickly parried two times
- Dash: he will dash across the screen. Avoid him by jumping and parry him two more times
- Small attack: he will move his sword upward. You could parry him but the time is very short, so is better to simply avoid this attack and wait for the other two.
THE BISHOP
The Bishop will move around the screen throwing little bells to you. You need to parry him when all the light of the candles are not lit. Every time you parry him, some candles will lit and you must walk over them to shut them out.
THE ROOK
Parry the pink head he will throw to you and throw them back to him. Beware of skulls and sparks on the ground.
THE QUEEN
Use the cannons to damage her. To shoot the cannon, parry the pink light over it. You need to timing your attacks in order to be able to hit her.
