How to unlock the Paladin achievement in Cuphead - Definitive Guide

You first have to do the Achievement "A Horrible Night To Have a Curse"

After you have done that you will get a charm called Cursed Relic.
The Cursed Relic gives you 1 HP in battle and it randomly assigns you with a weapon every time you press the fire button. But if you hold the fire button down and just keep attacking you will hold that weapon till you release or do something else like dodge

With this equipped you will have to defeat every boss in the dlc, then the relic turns in to the Divine Relic and you will get the achievement.
It has to be done on regular or expert difficulty(I tried it on simple and it did not work)

A few people have commented that you can do bosses from the main game aswell and the relic will turn in to the Divine Relic. You can also track the progress on the relic icon, after each fight the icons eye should open up more

A Tip to get trough this is spawning the genie before going in to a boss by spinning your left stick around, to get 1 extra HP in the boss room. You can also get 1 or 2 extra HP in the fight by doing a parry.

Wanted to add that I beat the last boss first, and worked my way counter clockwise around the island, so the gnome mountain guy was last for me. When I loaded him up I had the charm’s true power unlock early, but still had to beat him to get the achievement. Was worried it glitched on me at first. Was a nice little surprise as it made his fight a piece of cake.

Just wanted to say I just got the achievement. The bosses I defeated were:
Glumstone the Giant, Moonshine Mob, Esther Winchester, The Root Pack, Goopy Le Grande, Robby and Croaks, and finally Hilda Berg. I don’t think you need to defeat the bosses in the DLC world. I think you just need to defeat 7 bosses with the cursed relic.

Sign in a second controller and play as Chalice, now you have 8 health (using Genie) and can ignore your main account and it'll still count.

Can confirm that it’s 8 battles. Plane ones count too.

Also, my achievement didn’t pop immediately, I won one fight with the Divine Relic after unlocking it and it popped.

So the King Dice mini bosses count to some extent. I believe that one from each of the three blocks counts towards the total (so you can do 1,6,8 for example but 1 and 2 wont get you anywhere - my current guess anyway) as I had 6 mini bosses done in total but needed another 5 bosses to get the relic (so 11) but the 5 on Isle 1 plus 3 on King Dice makes 8 (or 1 miniboss + 5 on isle 1 for 6 bosses). I also had 2 done before trying any of the King Dice mini bosses.
Ive also watched the eye get larger on a King Dice mini boss so I know for sure it counts as 1.

Does anyone know, can you just do the same boss over and over again to just grind the points? And can it be done on Simple?

Doing this with a second controller on Ms. Chalice and the Genie was a breeze. Ended doing 4 bosses in Isle 3 in about 10 minutes. Thanks for the tip on using a second controller!

Just like sabby boy, I got it all powered up by defeating all the bosses from Isle 1 and some from Isle 2. The Paladin achievement never triggered for me though.
Edit: I fought the Devil with the fully powered relic and after I won the achievement popped. Hopefully, it will help somebody out.

According to the game's Wiki, this is how the points are calculated:

Cumulatively, 16 points is need to activate Divine Relic. Here is a list of points given by each boss:

Inkwell Isle 1: 2 points
Inkwell Isle 2: 2.5 points
Inkwell Isle 3: 3 points
Inkwell Isle 4: 3 points
King Dice and his minions: 1 point (per minion)
The Devil and Chef Saltbaker: 4 points

https://cuphead.fandom.com/wiki/Broken_Relic

Seemed accurate for me at least. I beat 4 bosses on Isle 1 (8 points), 2 bosses on Isle 2 (5 points) and 3 King Dice minions (3 points). Total of 16 points, achievement unlocked.

"Obtain great power" means that you have to fix the Broken relic into the Divine relic. Here are all the steps you need to complete.
  • Buy and equip the Broken relic for 1 coin in the shop
  • Solve the Graveyard puzzle to unlock the secret boss
  • Beat the secret boss so that the Broken relic becomes the Cursed relic
  • Beat 6-8 bosses atleast on regular difficulty with equip Cursed relic
Now a little detailed information about the individual steps
Graveyard puzzle
The solution to the puzzle is in the three statements of the three people on the winner's podium. There hide the directions in the messages. The order is first place, second and then third place. Unfortunately, these hints are different for everyone! In the spoiler you find many solutions which I gather together.

With your personal solution, now go to the graveyard and open the path to the secret boss.
Secret Boss
I personally stood all the time in the lower left corner and shot with the new red shot, the angel boss who then forwarded the shot to the devil boss. In between, of course, dodge the shots and co. Should not be too difficult I think.
Defeat 6-8 bosses with equiped Cursed Relic
This is definitely the hardest part. You must defeat the bosses at least on regular difficulty. The problem is, with the Cursed relic you only have one HP and every time you press the firebutton or dash, a different shot comes out. That makes things really hard. All bosses on all isles count (for me). It is still unclear how many you need exactly. For some players 6 bosses were enough, other players needed 8. For me it was 7 bosses.

Fortunately, there are also a two major tips:
- With every 3rd parry you get a HP in addition
- There is also an official cheat from the developers that also gives you an additional HP. To activate it, you have to turn in a circle / spin around on the map very quickly. Once you have finished the game (main or DLC), you can use the cheat on each island infinite but if you have neither the main game nor the DLC completed, you have only 3 wishes! on the specific isles. So be careful where you use the cheat. Once activated, the cheat remains active until you have defeated a boss.

With these 2 tips you have basically 3 HP, which makes the whole thing much easier. But it is still challenging!
You can see your boss progress by the Cursed relic, it changes appearance every two defeated bosses. After you beat 6-8 bosses you will obtain the Paladin achievement and the Divine Relic. Congratulations!

Since the other guides didn't mention this I thought I should make a quick guide about it,

Use a second controller!!

Since only Player one has the Cursed Relic equipped, the second player will still have full hp and have normal weapons!! I simply beat all the bosses in Isle I and some in Isle II to get this achievement.

Hope this tip helps you, good luck with your achievements.

The last trophy of this DLC could be the hardest of all but thanks to Djinn's Game Cheat, it became doable.

Once you have the Cursed Relic, equip it. Your HP will be reduced to 1 (2 if you use the cheat), your weapons will be random every time you stop shooting and in order to "Obtain great power", you need to upgrade the relic.

In order to upgrade the relic, you need to defeat 8 bosses on Regular or Expert with the relic equipped. Each time you defeat 2 bosses, the Relic will start transform, giving you new charm powers.
Once you defeat all 8, the relic will transform into Divine Relic: the relic will give you many charm powers, your HP will be restored and this trophy will unlock.

You need to buy a cursed relic. After that, solve the riddle in the cemetery. The clue is on the 3 characters on the pedestal. It is advisable to set the language to English. Defeat the devil boss, who is with the angel. After that, wearing this relic, go defeat any 8 bosses on medium difficulty. Life is 1, but it increases by parrying. 8 bosses and the trophy is yours

You can also use a cheat code with a genie before the boss - on the map, rotate the left stick three times. Then you will at least have 2 lives at the beginning.

Initially, 2 lives with the genie + 3 more are added when parrying. At the end, a cool amulet will open.

The difficulty is that every time you press the fire button /when dodging - weapons will be changed to random. You must defeat any 7 bosses and the trophy will drop. Personally, I went through it as follows: Island No. 1 - all bosses (5 pieces), Island No. 2 - Genie, Island No. 3 - Mermaid. The levels on the plane (1 boss on Island No. 1, Genie on Island No. 2 and Mermaid on Island No. 3) seemed to me much easier to complete, since there is no random change of weapons. This must be done on a difficulty level of at least Normal.
