Shrines appear as Aztec/Mayan temples (or Stonehenge on the Highlands map) and at least one is found on most maps.
When entering the shrine you will be able to Approach the Altar or search for secrets. Searching for secrets is an optional extra that doesn't count towards the achievement, but can give you extra fame items/buffs if you pass the dice roll.
Approach the altar and then take at least one item. If you trigger a hazard upon leaving/lose standing with the locals, you will have counted towards the achievement.
Once you hit 10 shrines (in total, not on one map) the achievement will unlock.
