How to unlock the Skeet Shooter achievement in Damnation - Definitive Guide

Whenever you collect mines throughout the game, find and open space, and aim as high up as you can. Throw the mine in the air and then shoot it with the machine gun. Repeat this until you get the achivement. :-)

It's better to do this in multiplayer. A friend and I have a second xbox each so after we boosted the mp we set up a 60min deathmatch on Cathedral and on the bridge in the center of the map spawns 4 trip mines. Simply have your machine gun out and hold LT then aim up as high as you can and click right stick to zoom in. Then press Y toss the mine and shoot when the mine is dropping across the crosshairs.

Once you figure out how far to lead it, it's really simple to get on any checkpoint near trip mine spawns -- I did this in Mesa Verde right after sliding down a rope from a totem pole. I found that zooming in with the Tommy Gun-thing, looking straight up and tossing the mine, then stepping slightly to the left worked out the best. It also seems to work better if you start unloading right as the mine starts to slow in its upward direction and begins to arc down, since you'll nail it nine times out of ten.

I had real trouble with this, the 'just throw in the air and shoot' solution is common sense yet really tough to pull off, and I couldn't get more than 2-3 per session in the multiplayer either.

Here's the easiest solution by far:

Load up Campaign level 'The Prodigal Son' (Act 5) and get to the part where you first exit the sewers and enter a large walled in courtyard (This is also the best place to do the 'Dumb Luck' achievement).

Don't go down the alley with the yellow barrels as the creatures will spawn. Go over to the other side and equip your SHOTGUN. Aim and throw a mine high up at one of the walls. It'll bounce off the wall you'll have enough time to fire off a couple of shots to hit it. Once you've used up all your mines there are 4 more scattered about the area.

When you are completely out of mines just reload your checkpoint and you'll be back in the sewers so just repeat until it pops.

Once I got the hang of it I got up to about 6 successful hits in a row and the whole thing took me about 5 minutes to do.

I found that I was able to get this achievement by just throwing the mines up and then shooting them with the machine gun. What I did was aim just below the mine after throwing it to counteract the movement of the mine. Make sure to throw it as high as you can so you have the maximum time to track and shoot it.

I did the achievement at the same place the Dumb Luck achievement is easy to get (Act 5, Prodigal Son after the sewers). It is not a requirement for you to be here but it needs to be somewhere with masses of open sky above you to throw into so that you can get the technique right.

There are also a few mines at this location too so you can use all of them up before then reloading your last checkpoint and doing it all over again. This won't affect your achievement progress, don't worry.

I have added a video too (below) showing the method and location used.

Honestly, I found that the biggest key to this achievement is something that isn't even listed in these guides. "aim as high as you can"... Yeah that works all well and good except that the mines still fly far away from you doing that.

Equip the machine gun, reload it, and AIM DOWN THE SIGHTS! This will make you zoom in and allow you to actually throw it at a much higher angle than just looking up will. Secondly, click in your right stick to zoom even further. I found that doing this before (or quickly after) throwing a mine made it A LOT easier. ended up getting it in just 2 or 3 multiplyer matches with some friends as they were going for flag achievements on (I think) PSI Topside. There are 4 mines that spawn on the bridge in the very center of the map every minute or so.

I also noted that I always had to adjust my aim a little bit to the left with each throw so maybe my character was a lefty?

I will admit that it takes some getting used to. Just aim a little bit below the falling mine and you should get it in no time.

There's a couple of ways to get this I found but by far the easiest is in a solo session. Trip Mines are found all across all levels and are picked up by running over them. The most you can carry at a time is 4 and to throw them press and to detonate it press again, however for this we will be shooting them before they explode.

Most of Damnation is set outside in the open so you can start work on this as soon as you have some Trip Mines but try to collect 4 and keep hold of them. When you pass a checkpoint and the auto-save icon flashes up on screen, it’s a perfect time to try for this. Equip your machine gun and hold down to aim your gun, now pull back as far as you can until you are practically looking straight up. Throw a Trip Mine into the air and shoot it clean out of the sky to register one for the count. Repeat this with the other 3 mines you have and then select to load last checkpoint. You will spawn with the 4 Trip Mines you had and the tally will still count, as soon as you blast 25 before they hit the ground your trophy will unlock.

Here's a video of this method courtesy of Overlord73 though I don't recommend waiting until you are in the area he uses, which is in Terra Verte. Again as soon as you have Trip Mines and are in the open then you can start farming this trophy:

Go into a player match with a friend on Cathedra. There are four trip mines that respawn in the center of the map. Look directly into the sky and also zoom in with your weapon so that you can look higher. Have you friend standing directly behind you doing the same thing and throw your trip mine into the air and have your friend shoot it with the machine gun, repeat twenty-four more times and the achievement will pop.
