How to unlock the Something to Prove achievement in Dance Central - Definitive Guide

For this achievement, you will need to get 100% on both sections in every song in Break It Down Mode. This means the first part where they make you play each move individually, as well as the recap which combines all moves. You do NOT need a diamond in the first part, as a green check works just as well. Basically at the end of the song, the total score must be 100%.

All songs can be done on easy, and the achievement WILL unlock. However, there is a weird piece to this. You must complete the 100% on the hardest difficulty that you have ever played a song on. When I got it, I tried easy on all songs before playing any other difficulty, with the exception of Drop It Like Its Hot, which I made the mistake of attempting on Hard at the very beginning. When I got 100% on everything on easy, the achievement did not pop. However, remembering that I had tried Drop It on Hard, I went and tried to see if it would pop upon getting the 100% on that song. As soon as I hit my 100%, on hard, the achievement popped.

So in short, play through this mode on easy, securing your 100% on each song, before attempting any other difficulty in this mode. You CAN play Perform It! mode on any difficulty you want and it will have no effect on this achievement, so don't panic if you've done that.

Lastly, I know that many of you have probably attempted this mode on hard for a number of songs. What I would recommend in this case is to either delete your save for Dance Central completely and start this mode from scratch, or (the better option as you won't lose your work) you could start a new save on a separate storage device. Then simply go through Break It Down on EASY for every song, get your 50g, and be done with it!!

Hope this helps, and I apologize for being so long-winded, but I wanted to be as clear as possible. Leave some feedback if you'd like, and be sure to vote positive if this helps.

Awesome bro. I think I'm gonna go the route of using a flash drive for an alternate save later on. Too many songs attempted on Hard already.

A helpful hint if you get stuck on "Down Down" to the left like I did on Teach Me How to Jerk... some motions apparently don't count if you do them "full out". That one move has been frustrating me for over a week and today, I just gave up and was doing it sloppy... and it finally gave me Flawless. I guess you just have to experiment with some motions: some motions want it really big, some don't care if it's small.

This totally changes my plan for getting this achievement. I usually try to avoiding reading the guides before trying them, but after I had issues with the "Flying Blind" achievement, I figured I better check it out since some people had included this in as a high score bug.

Ah, I had left this one for last and done pretty much every song on hard already...sigh.
Thanks for sharing this, otherwise I'd probably be getting nowhere with this achievement.

I have a question, if I do dance battle on easy for some of the songs will it glitch this achievement or will that still count as having easy be my hardest difficulty?

Any idea if dlc having been played in break it down mode means I have to do those songs perfect too?

I have no idea, as I got this before buying any DLC. However, the norm for games like this is that it only applies to on-disc content. I would guess that is the case for this also.

Soo if I played the Break It Down on hard I have to get 100% on hard or I can do easy because I haven't preformed the song?

Each song works individually. If you've never played the song in break it down or only played it on easy in break it down mode, getting the 100% on easy is fine. If you've played a song on medium in break it down, the 100% will need to be on medium. Same for hard. It also does not matter if you played on a different difficulty in another mode. Only the hardest difficulty with which you attempted a song within break it down mode matters. Very simple...

I had no idea the difficulty only applies to Break It Down. I've been avoiding harder difficulties on Perform It because I thought it would ruin me for this achievement.

Can someone help out a newb?

This is the last achievement I have to get, and like others, did not know of the glitch until AFTER I tried songs on hard. So my alternate route is starting a new save on a different device.

I have my xbox flash drive (I bought just for this achievement, how sad...lol)....Now how do I get this to work without erasing my current progress? I have no idea what to do, and I don't want to go starting new games without knowing what I'm doing, and accidentally get rid of my current save....

Oh I think I figured it out, it let me move the save onto the USB and I guess I can just switch it back then? Let's hope! LOL

You can move saves freely between different storage devices. Just make sure you disconnect your usb drive after you've moved the save onto it. Otherwise the game will read the save from your usb drive instead, defeating the purpose.

Quick tip for "down down" in Teach Me How to Jerk: the last part of the move is standing straight up. It's not twist-twist-twist-twist, it's twist-twist-twist-stand.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with soldier boy song. The final recap is garbage and I get hung up on the lean part. What really sucks is the song. I've tried it 20 or so times and I'm bout to pull out what remaining hair I have left.

Similar to something cooorpse said earlier. Weird thing happened to me that might help you get this without buying a USB or deleting your save.
What just happened:
1. I was going for the no flashcards on my primary account.
2. I had done 9 songs without flashcards.
3. On the 10th song, for some reason I had my secondary profile signed in as well.
4. When the song finished BOTH profiles got the Flying Blind achievement even though it was the first song for my secondary.
Therefore what I'm thinking is that you can do all the songs on a new profile with a new save. Then when you are on your final song, sign in your primary profile as well. When you get 100% on that final song the achievement will unlock on both profiles.

DillionDay - uh yeah the one is/was sooo annoying like WTF!?! what part of "Lean" did i not do correctly? I think it might have something to do with how you hold your arms while doing it but I'm too annoyed to try it again right now, i'll have to come back to it. it just seems very inconsistent with how it registers your movements sometimes

Any idea if dlc having been played in break it down mode means I have to do those songs perfect too?
I don't think so as I did 9 songs past 80% for the other achievement and did 2 DLC songs and no achievement and as soon as I did the next regular song the achievement poped so hopefully this one only registers the original song list as well

So, I got most of the achievements today. The No-flashcards achievement is really easy.
However, I will NOT try and go for this achievement. That horrible soldja boy song is broken. It has problems with the Superman move and pretty much always with the Lean&Rock.

****If you attempting this cheevo, try that song first.****

When I was going for the True Star Ach (5 stars each song on easy/medium) I noticed that Soldja boy really was the only 'troublemaker'. I must have spent a freakin 45min or so just doing that damn song. And it was far from flawless most of the time. I eventually finished the song on MEDIUM so I didnt constantly lose my combo by that bugged Lean&Rock.

100 percent'ing everything means that the game has to function for 100%. This song ruins that percentage.

Any tips for moves that have very little movement (shrug in Come on ride it, and Look4U in Days Go By)

Lighting is absolutely important. Try a very bright setting, and try a very dark setting, and a few shades in between. Go with whichever works best!

Dance Battle Mode has nothing whatsoever to do with this achievement. The ONLY thing that matters here is that you do not perform "Break It Down" mode on anything above easy, as the game will then require you to get your 100% on that difficulty. All other modes can be played at will...

Stuck on Teach Me How To Jerk... I can do EVERYTHING fine except the Dip It and Keep Dipping moves. Does anybody know what to do to nail it consistently? The Final Recap is screwing me over on this one!

If you want to try it, but you don't have patience, time or you aren't a good dancer, I recommend that start with "Teach Me How To Jerk" to see if you can do it 100%. It took me 3 days for 100% on easy, all others songs aren't as hard as TMHTJ (IMO, but I played all DC for 360 , so I know 90% of the moves).

Break It Down mode involves you performing each song in the game in multiple sections. You'll perform each move individually, and then a recap will require you to put a few moves together. To get 100% on a song, you must get at least a nice on each individual move (3 times, if you don't nail it the first time), and then you must get at least a nice rating on each move during each recap. During the individual moves, you should see at least a green check mark next to each move, or a diamond if you got a flawless. After the recap, you should see, for example, 19/19 moves passed 100%.

It is highly recommended to 100% every song on Easy to unlock this achievement before attempting ANY song on Hard. If you attempt a song on Hard, you must then 100% that song on Hard for it to count toward Something To Prove. The rest of the songs you've done on easy will not be affected by the one song you broke down on Hard.

Another useful trick: if you are trying an individual move and fail it twice, use your left arm after an attempt to "slow it down." This will slow the song down and give you more attempts. When you then speed it back up (the same way you slowed it down) you now have 3 more attempts to pass the move. For example, you pass the move the first time and get one green check. Then you screw up twice in a row. Slow it down with your left hand, practice a couple times, then speed it back up with your left hand. Now you have 3 more attempts to get the last two passes that you need.
