You get presents mainly from the MonoMono machine, which is located on the beach of the main island. It's one of those little coin-operated machines that spits out a toy. You need coins to play it, so what I would recommend is coming back to the beach after you beat the first chapter since you get a bunch of coins for finishing the trial (you won't really have any coins before that).
With the coins you have now, you can easily roll the machine enough times to get 50 unique presents.
It does have the potential to roll duplicates (you can see the % of getting a duplicate in the top left), but unless you're super unlucky, you should be able to make it to 50.
And, of course, you can continue to return to the vending machine as you keep earning coins throughout the game.
There are other ways to get presents -- story-related, a few food items at the vending machine at the supermarket, completing students' report cards -- but if you just want to get a quick 50, this is the way to go.
