This is story related and will be unlocked as you progress.
The prologue is basically a tutorial. Following is a rundown of what you'll actually be doing:
Intro and Beach
First you'll be introduced to your character and the setting. You'll end up mysteriously in a classroom with a bunch of people who don't know how they got there, and then be introduced to your teacher.
The teacher will take the class on a trip to the beach, and this is where you'll be released from pure dialogue and get to interact with the world around you. There will be a guy in front of you, and several points to click and explore.
Make sure you click on the Ocean, Surveillance Camera, Coconut Tree, Monitor. More dialogue will follow as you speak to Nagito about what you're seeing. When you've finished checking everything out, the game will introduce you to the e-Handbook and you'll be able to leave the beach with your first Hope Fragment.
After the fast travel explanation, I walked right from the beach, taking me to the next part of the island, the Airport.
Airport
Here you'll meet the Ultimate Mechanic, Kazuichi Soda, automatically. You'll get another Hope Fragment and then be able to explore the area.
Speak to the guy on the left with the ??? as his name and be introduced to Gundham Tanaka, the Ultimate Breeder. The third Hope Fragment is yours.

Leave here and continue walking to the right. Your e-pet will probably hatch on the way to the Rocketpunch Market.
Rocketpunch Market
As you enter, you'll meet Mikan Tsumiki, the Ultimate Nurse, and get her Hope Fragment.
Tilting the camera so you can see behind the Cola shelves reveals another person, the Ultimate Musician Ibuki Mioda. Talk to her and grab her Hope Fragment.

Leave here and continue to the right.
Hotel
Here you'll be walking around in first person view instead of just moving your pointer and clicking things. Head forward past Nagito and take a right at the pool.
Talk to the big guy, Nekomaru Nida, the Ultimate Team Manager, to get his Hope Fragment.
Continuing around the pool, you can look at the Hotel Lobby, Monitor, Surveillance Camera, and Hotel Restaurant. Looking at the Lobby and Restaurant will just tell you to look around more, until you've talked to all the people and gotten the Hope Fragments in the area.
Speak to the red haired girl, Mahiru Koizumi, the Ultimate Photographer. Get her Hope Fragment.
Looking at the Hotel's Old Building summons your teacher to scold you not to go into dangerous places.
Finish your circuit around the pool and talk to the guy in the suit, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, the Ultimate Yakuza. Once you have his Hope Fragment, turn around and head up the stairs to the Hotel Restaurant.
Hotel Restaurant You'll automatically meet Sonia Nevermind and Teruteru Hanamura, the Ultimate Princess and the Ultimate Cook, and get their Hope Fragments.
Clickable items, from left to right: Monitor, Surveillance Camera, Hotel - Outside (this takes you back to the pool), Stairs (this takes you down to the Hotel Lobby). Go ahead and go down the stairs.
Hotel Lobby Clickable items in here from left to right: Reception Desk, Monitor, Surveillance Camera, Arcade Machine, Stairs (leads to the Hotel Restaurant).
The girl on the left behind Nagito is Peko Pekoyama, Ultimate Swordsman. On the right you'll find Chiaki Nanami, the Ultimate Gamer. With both of their Hope Fragments under your belt, you can exit this area. Walk back past the pool and use the big gate to return to the island screen.
You might want to clean your e-pet before you keep walking right to reach the Ranch.
Ranch

On the left in the short skirt you'll meet Akane Owari, Ultimate Gymnast. Grab her Hope Fragment, then introduce yourself to the girl in the orange kimono (Hiyoko Saionji, Ultimate Traditional Dancer) to collect hers, too.
Leave the area and continue right. Take the Central Island bridge and head left, past bridge number 2, and enter Jabberwock Park. Keep an eye on your e-pet's cleanliness. It also might evolve again around now.
Jabberwock Park

Talk to the big guy in the white suit and introduce yourself to Byakuya Togami, Ultimate Affluent Progeny, to grab the last Hope Fragment.
The teacher will call you if you've successfully obtained all the Hope Fragments, and summon everyone to the beach. Exit this area, then use your map to warp to the beach.
After all the Hope Fragments are collected, you'll be summoned to the Beach, and then back to the Jabberwock Park again. Just keep talking to people to progress until you meet the Headmaster and learn the creepy truth about what's going on.
After this scene concludes, you'll get a title screen and intro movie, and the achievement will pop right after "To be continued. . ." is displayed!

Thanks for the guide...that had to be one of the longest prologues in any game and it is helpful to have a walkthrough
