Basically, this game has a pedometer feature in for Hajime Hinata, simply because the e-Handbook offers a bonus feature of a Pet mini-game. Care for, treat, and clean up after a digital pet which evolves based on the number of steps that you take. Unless you go out of your way to run mindlessly, you won't end up getting this during your first play through the story. For me, I waited until Island Mode, and when I had Free Time, I just walked around the island for a few minutes. The way it was calculated somewhere (I don't remember the exact location), you get a small bit more steps counted if you take to walking rather than running (I think like 15 extra steps). So, if you get really bored, you could just walk around the island in Island Mode to clock in the steps.
