How to unlock the Seriously, You Shouldn't Have achievement in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition - Definitive Guide
It should be noted that in order to get this achievement you will have to complete the main story and have finished all endings for school mode for two reasons.
1. The MonoMono Machine will be missing one present until the main story is completed.
2. Finishing each chapter and each ending will provide one present that can not be obtained from the MonoMono Machine.
With these two facts in mind, it is better to save your coins until you finish the main story and get 999 coins as you could potentially be spending A LOT depending on how lucky you are.
The MonoMono Machine (will be referred to as the MMM) works like gacha machine, you put a coin in, you get a random item, repeat. You can put more than one coin into the MMM in order to reduce the odds of getting an item you haven't pulled yet, but I wouldn't recommend doing this until your odds of repeats are 65%-75%. From here if you don't have 100% odds of repeats then you may need to grind out coins, so if you haven't gotten all of the school mode endings then do that to get 200 coins. If you have all the endings already, I found it easier to repeat chapter 5's class trial. (Alternatively you can try to close the game if you pull an item you already have. According to qwe1313 this is much faster than grinding out coins)
Once you have 100% repeats at the MMM and all School Mode Endings then this should pop!
If you vote negative let me know what issues you have run into if this didn't work for you.

You can save with 999 coins. Spend until you get all gifts. Finally reload. Now have 999 coins again. Then you can just spend some trying to get gifts for gallery events and reload if you spend too much. No reason to ever grind coins.

Using more coins at once only slightly changes the odds (according to the probability shown in the game). I am personally grinding with the use of saving - it is quite quick to try your luck 5-10 times and save or reload based on the outcome.

Just a heads up even though you use all of your mono mono coims to bring down repeat % to 0
It doesnt necessarily mean you would get a new present.
Happened to me when im down to 2 presents left.
My suggestion is to save scum. Spend coins to bring down to > 50% repeat chance and if you dont get it quit to the menu and DONT SAVE if it asks you to. It should return your coins.
Reload until you try again. If you do get it. Quit and then save.
This would be great if you're down to two presents because you cant rely on using all of your coins to get a new present.

Do you have to have at least 1 of each in your inventory? I have 0 of several because I used them as gifts. Do I have to pull another of each of those from the machine before this unlocks?

Nope you don't have to. as long as you've gotten them at one point. It unlocked for me once there's no more ??? on the presents menu.
