How to unlock the Gesture Maestro achievement in DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin - Definitive Guide

To get this achievement simply find the person/object that teaches you a gesture then learn it.

All except one of the gestures are obtained from an NPC, the other one is obtained from the Altar of Sunlight.

When obtaining from an NPC you must talk with them until their menu pops up, on which there should be an option to 'Learn Gesture'.

The Altar of Sunlight's menu should pop without the talking.

The following are default gestures:

- Point
- I won't bite
- Bow
- Wave
- Pumped Up
- Warcry
- Righty-ho!
- No Way

The following are the gestures you must obtain and their location, in order of likely appearance in game:

- Welcome: Obtained from Crestfallen Saulden who sits at the monument in Majula.

- Duel Bow: Obtained from Blue Sentinel Targray in the Cathdral of Blue, you must have a token of fidelity to talk to him. You must join the covenant for his menu to appear (see 'Protector Covenant' guide for more details).

- Mock: Obtained from Straid of Olaphis in the Lost Bastille. He is petrified in the door of a cell upstairs from the gate to the bridge that leads to Sinner's Rise. You will need to unpetrify him, then you can talk to him (if his menu doesn't appear rest at the bonfire then talk to him again).

- Fist Pump: Obtained from Creighton the Wanderer at the Undead Lockaway bonfire in Huntsman's copse. This is just past the bridge which you must pull a lever to lower. It requires a key which is found by crossing the small bridge (rather than going into the caves) and following the path up. It is loot in that area where the Scythe phantom appears.

- Praise the Sun: Obtained by using the Altar of Sunlight in Harvest Valley (see 'Brilliant Covenant' guide for directions). You do not need to join the covenant to learn the gesture.

- Prostration: Obtained from Laddersmith Gilligan in the Earthen Peak (See 'Garrulous Miser' guide for directions). Once you have bought his ladder for 2000 souls you can learn his gesture. If he has already moved to Majula before you get this then you can still learn it from him there.

- Joy: Obtained from Benheart of Jugo in Majula on the path to the Shaded Woods. You must unpetrify Rosabeth for his menu to appear when talking to him.

- Decapitate: Obtained from the Head of Vengarl in the Shaded Woods. Hug the left wall from the Ruined Fork Road bonfire to find him. He will be a head on a pile of rocks in a circular ruin.

- Warmup: Obtained from speaking with Manscorpion Tark in the Shaded Ruins once you have defeated the area boss, Scorpioness Najka. You will need the Ring of Whispers equipped (bought from Shalquoir, the cat, in Majula). He is in a ruined building. From the bonfire go up to the open area then turn left and go to a large ruined building. Enter through its door, go down the stairs, and outside. Tark will be down to your right, he is difficult to miss.

- This One's Me: Obtained from Chancellor Wellager in Drangleic Castle. After opening the doors to the castle you will see two stairs curving up to each other. Go up to where they meet and Wellager will be standing there. He is a ghost, and so may be difficult to see.

- Have Mercy: Obtained from Grave Warden Agdayne in the Undead Crypt. After the first bonfire continue on. Do not light a torch and do make sure to kill the undead which carries a torch, otherwise Agdayne will be hostile and the gesture is missed. You will know when you reach is room because he talks to you when you enter. When you hear his voice go up some stairs to your right to find him, do not attack him or the grave wardens.

- Hurrah: Obtained from Captain Drummond in the Memory of Vammar, found in the Forest of Fallen Giants at the Giant tree near where you first meet Pate. You require the Ashen Mist Heart, if you have this approach the Giant tree (two hollows will be hitting it) and activate it. Drummond will be in a small room at the beginning of the memory.

For the idiots like myself who read it wrong, you actually have to kill the guy with the torch immediately in the Undead Crypt. For some reason I thought it said to not light a torch OR kill that guy. Oops.

Anyway once I messed that up and agrro'd Agdayne, I went to visit Cromwell on top of the church in Brightstone Cove and got him to forgive my sins. Then go back to where Agdayne was standing and there will be a grave and you can rez him and get the gesture.

I don't think so. I just went to a character where I believe I skipped talking to him, then went and talked to him at his first location and he gave me Joy. If for some reason he isn't there then I bet you will be able to get it when you next see him (Drangleic Castle, I think).

Havent played this yet but fantastic comment atcs , the phrase saying do not light a torch and kill the guy carrying a torch could prolly be written better, as the "not" can easily be applied to both parts of the sentance.

Wuntchtime In my case, the 95% was just missing the welcome that should have been the first in the game for me to receive XD
It's up there in Majula where the inconsolable warrior is

You start with a number of gestures and then need to learn the following:

Welcome – Speak to Crestfallen Saulden, who is sat on the stone monument in Majula go through all his dialogue to learn this.

Duel Bow – Speak to Blue Sentinel Targray in the Cathedral of Blue (found in Heide’s Tower of Flame area) after acquiring a Token of Fidelity, you can find one on a ledge just under the bridge leading to the Undead Purgatory in Huntsmans Copse OR acquire by helping other players via the White Soapstone. You HAVE to join the covenant for him to give you the option of learning the gesture (but you can leave after).

Fist Pump – In Huntsman's Copse, after you lower the huge iron bridge cross it to come to a bonfire behind a locked door, take the Cliffside path nearby (rather than the caves) and follow it a ramp that leads up, the Key is on a corpse up here. Return to the locked room and speak to Creighton the Wanderer to learn this.

Joy – From Majula head back towards Things Betwixt but take the right hand cave instead. Speak to Benhart (with the blue sword) and then examine the statue up ahead. You need a Fragrant Branch of Yore to un-petrify Rosabeth of Melfia here, once you have done so go back and speak to Benhart again to learn this gesture.

Warmup – First purchase the Ring of Whispers from the cat in Majula (costs 5,800 souls) then speak to Manscorpion Tark in the Shaded Ruins (he is at the bottom of the left hand building as you face the giant basilisk in this area) after defeating Scorpioness Najka (you may need to rest first if you summoned him to help in the fight).

Hurrah! – Can only be acquired AFTER speaking to the Ancient Dragon and getting the Ashen Mist Heart. Then go to the Forest of Fallen Giants and access the Memory of Vammar (tree that looks like a giant near the ballista room). Speak to Captain Drummond in the memory to learn the gesture.

This One's Me – When you first get to Castle Drangleic go up the stairs ahead and speak to Chancellor Wellager (the ghost) repeatedly until he teaches you the gesture.

Have mercy! – Shortly into the Undead Crypt (after the first rooms with the ghouls and spellcasters) someone will call out to you. DO NOT HAVE A LIT TORCH OR SORCERY AT THIS POINT. Follow the path and speak to Grave Warden Agdayne to learn the gesture.

Prostration – In Earthen Peak, after the second bonfire that is behind a fog gate, go up the stairs outside that room and smash the wooden fencing ahead of you. Go along the ledge to the left to meet Laddersmith Gilligan, pay him 2000 souls for a ladder to reach a Lockstone and he will teach you this. If you miss him he will move to Majula AFTER you defeat the area boss and be sat by the pit near the mansion.

Decapitate – From the Ruined Fork Road in the Shaded Woods enter the foggy door and stick to the left hand wall, follow it up to a ruined circle and speak to the Head of Vengarl repeatedly to learn.

Mock – In the Lost Bastille, just before the bridge to Sinners Rise, you can go up some stairs to some cells with a petrified wizard. Use a Fragrant Branch of Yore to free Straid of Olaphis then speak to him repeatedly to learn this gesture.

Praise the Sun – Just before you enter the large building (Earthen Peak) via the door with all of the poison pots in Harvest Valley, there is a small path that runs across to the left above the poison smog with the two Dark Giants. Follow this to the Alter of Sunlight and you can learn this without having to rank up in the Covenant.

For this trophy, you must learn all gestures. Most of these are learned from NPC's in the game. Below is the location of all gestures you need to learn.

Welcome, Majula - Learned from Crestfallen Saulden. As soon as you arrive in Majula, he will be to the far side where you are facing atop a set of stairs; exhaust his dialogue, talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Duel Bow, Cathedral of Blue - You first need a Token of Fidelity to join the Blue Sentinels. Exhaust his dialogue, talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Mock, Lost Bastille - You will need to unpetrify Straid of Olaphis using a Fragrant Branch of Yore. He is located in the cell right next to the Exhile Holding Cells bonfire. Exhaust his dialogue, and talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Fist Pump, Huntsman's Copse - Learned from Creighton the Wanderer. He is located inside the locked dome at the Undead Lockaway Bonfire. You must find the Undead Lockaway Key in the area, open the gate, exhaust his dialogue and talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Praise The Sun, Harvest Valley - You learn this gesture from kneeling at the statue where you join the Sun covenant. This is located in Harvest Valley just before the entrance to Earthen Peak where you are getting bombarded by a Desert Sorceress from high above. Cross the bridge where the hammer enemy is and go left all the way until you find the statue.

Prostration, Earthen Peak/Majula - Speak to Laddersmith Gilligan at Earthen Peak or Majula and pay him 2000 souls to learn the gesture.

Joy, Majula - You will need to unpetrify Rosabath of Melfia who is located just before the entrance to the Shaded Woods using a Fragrant Branch of Yore. Exhaust her dialogue, and talk to her again to learn her gesture.

Decapitate, Shaded Woods - Shaded Woods, in the foggy area stick to the left wall and you will eventually find a path leading to the Head of Vengarl. Exhaust his dialogue. Talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Warmup, Shaded Woods - First, you need to equip the Ring of Whispers purchased from Sweet Shalquoir in Majula. After defeating Scorpioness Najka, equip the Ring and exhaust Manscorpion Tarks dialogue. Talk to him again to learn his gesture.

This One's Me, Drangleic Castle - Just as you enter the castle at the main entrance, up the stairs, you will find Chancellor Wellager. Exhaust his dialogue, and talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Have Mercy!, Undead Crypt - Speak to Grave Warden Agdayne WITHOUT having a torch lit or he will be hostile. Exhaust his dialogue, and talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Hurrah!, Memory of Vammar - Shortly after arriving and proceeding down the corridor with the dead soldiers littered around you, will find Captain Drummond. Exhaust his dialogue, and talk to him again to learn his gesture.

Warm-up - equip the Ring of Whispers, which can be bought from the cat in Majula, and talk to Tark (half-human, half-scorpion in the Dark Ruins) before and after defeating ScorpioNazhka;

If suddenly you attacked the half-scorpion Tark and killed him, before the conversation, don’t worry, feel free to move on with the plot. After some time, his grave will appear and for 2500 souls, you can summon him near it.

I went several times to the place where I killed him, but the grave did not appear, I read on the forums that someone says it will appear at the end of the game, someone says that somewhere around 6 hours of real time should pass... I thought that after I killed him and the tombstone appeared, about 5 hours passed, but most likely it doesn’t matter. Just move on, the next time I returned to them it was after killing Freya (Hefty Spider), calling him and putting on the ring, I talked to him, he gave me a fragrant branch of the past, for killing his “girlfriend” and taught me a gesture, while initially when I first met him, I didn't talk to him.
