How to unlock the Gnawing Covenant achievement in DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin - Definitive Guide

For this achievement you must speak with the Rat King in either the Grave of Saints or the Doors of Pharros.

The Grave of Saints is in the pit in Majula, after a couple of drops there will be a doorway to drop to, enter here and go through the area until you reach the boss (Royal Rat Vanguard). After this fight there will be a small room and a rat sitting on a ledge, this is the Rat King. Talk to him until he offers for you to join the covenant.

The Doors of Pharros is the area after the shaded woods, go under an arch at the start of the area instead of going up the stairs. There should be a bonfire to your right. Then continue forwards through this area until you reach its boss (Royal Rat Authority), after which the Rat King will be in a small broken panel in an adjoining room. Talk to him until he offers you to join the covenant.

Note: you do not need to join for the achievement to pop, you must simply reach the decision window (join: yes/no).

This trophy is for finding the covenant of the Rat King in the Graves of Saints area. This is accessed by dropping down the large well in the middle of Majula. You can wait until you find Laddersmith Gilligan and get him to set up a ladder or you can buy the cats ring from the cat merchant in Majula to allow you to jump down. Bear in mind this is still tricky and requires a good level of health.

Once you are in this area you will need to find the second bonfire before a fog gate where you will fight the mini-boss fight with a bunch of rats. You need to look out for the rat with the spiky hairdo once you have killed enough regular rats for him to appear.

Once killed you can make your way as shown by the video to the Rat King.

The Rat King covenant is accessible after completing the Grave of Saints area following the defeat of the Royal Rat Vanguard boss. Speak to the Rat King in the adjoining room and exhaust his dialogue to be offered the opportunity to join the covenant.

PLEASE NOTE, YOU DO NOT NEED TO JOIN A COVENANT TO GET THE ACHIEVEMENT – JUST HAVE THE OPTION TO: Found in two places. The small room after you defeat the Royal Rat Vanguard boss in the Grave of Saints or a similar room after the Royal Rat Authority boss in the Doors of Pharros (he is optional). You get a Rat Tail for each of these bosses, which is required to join.

For this trophy, you need to first make make your way down the Pit in Majula to the Grave of Saints and defeat the Royal Rat Vanguard boss. Then move in to the next room, and you will see a rat you can speak to, he will ask you to join Rat King covenant.

The location is the grave of saints, after defeating a fighter of the rat guard (a huge crowd of rats), a passage will open, behind which, on an altar with a bunch of skulls, a huge, fat, talking rat will sit. She accepts into the covenant.

After killing the Rat Guard Fighter boss in the Tomb of Saints OR the Rat Guard Commander boss in the Doors of Farros, you will meet the Rat King. He will offer to join.
