How to unlock the Iron Keep Bonfire achievement in DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin - Definitive Guide

This is essentially a storyline achievement. Your "objective" for the first portion of the game is to light four primal bonfires which are being guarded by four bosses.
In the interests of not spoiling anything or revealing any of the game's deadly secrets I won't include any information about the bosses or the areas you have to travel through to reach them. If you want to look up any information on your own, the name of this boss is

For this one you will need to take the route out of Majula which leads through Huntsman's Copse, Harvest Valley and Earthen Peak to finally reach the Iron Keep.
Fight your way through the Iron Keep to a boss fight. At the back of the boss area there will be a small room with some stairs leading down to the primal bonfire.

I'm wondering how you could give spoilers for this game, don't get me wrong I think it's good but there doesn't seem to be any story!

This is currently stuck on 100% unlocking, for me. I killed the final boss, lit the bonfire - but since it was the last Primal Bonfire I got a visit from Aldia and explosion. Because this happened, it seems to have screwed up my achievement. I wonder if this is a known issue?

yeah it's annoying and it won't show up on TA. Sigh. I should say it's no longer the verbiage "done... unlocking" on X1 these days. On mine it's actually just 100% complete but not unlocked.

Where you offline when you did it? I was (Gulch Bonfire too) and that seems to have interfered.

There definitely is a story behind DS2 but it's fairly obscure and you have to do a lot of work to figure it all out. I'm not worried about spoiling any plot points so much as spoiling the sense of adventure and working things out that the Souls games are all about. In theory the guide for this achievement could be a walkthrough for the areas you have to traverse in order to reach the Iron Keep primal bonfire including strategies for the various bosses but I think most Souls fans will agree that figuring those things out are a huge part of what makes these games so damn good.

Achievements getting stuck on Done...Unlocking unfortunately seems to be a fairly common problem with the way the achievement system works on the Xbox One. I've had it happen to me dozens of times on various different games. Usually the achievement will pop on its own over the next couple of days but you can try to speed up the process by popping other achievements (popping stuff on other platforms, Xbox 360, PC, Windows Phone etc seems to work even better) or fulfilling the requirements again, although obviously story achievements like this aren't that simple to do again.
It should randomly come through pretty soon although I will say I had an achievement stuck Done...Unlocking on The Master Chief Collection for something like 8 months before it finally popped. On the plus side while it's in that state it should already have registered on the progress bar for the "get all achievements" achievement.

This is a progress related, unmissable achievement. After defeating the Old Iron King boss in the Iron Keep you will be able to light the primal bonfire and return to Majula.

Story progression – can’t be missed. You need to defeat the Old Iron King at the end of the Iron keep to access the bonfire. He will come out of the lava and use a number of crushing attacks or flame based ranged attacks. For his physical attacks you can dodge under his horizontal swings and dodge his overhead smash at the last second – both leave him open to a counter. If you stay close he shouldn’t use his long ranged flame attacks that often but be warned they CAN hit you through the stone walls here and knock you into the lava, so only heal when you have a moment. If you have the Gyrm shield (found from enemies in the Doors of Pharros) you can block the flame strikes at the cost of a LOT of stamina. In truth he is fairly easy due to his habit of standing still and telegraphing his blows. Once he dies go into the small building here to activate the Primal bonfire.

Story related cannot be missed

For this trophy, you must make your way to the Iron Keep. Defeat the Old Iron King and light the primal bonfire in the area below where you fought him. You have to fight your way through the following areas to reach the Iron Keep.

Huntsman's Copse - Defeat the Skeleton Lord, proceed to Harvest Valley.

Harvest Valley - Defeat the Covetous Demon, enter Earthen Peak.

Earthen Peak - Defeat Mytha, the Baneful Queen to gain access to Iron Keep.

Iron Keep - Defeat the Smelter Demon (optional but recommended to summon Lucatiel for this fight) and the Old Iron King

The Old Iron King is easy to defeat. His attacks are slow and predictable but hit quite hard, use ranged magic if you can as he is very susceptible to it, use melee after he slams his fists down. It is easier to evade his attacks on the right side of the platform. Just keep up the offensive and he will fall before long. I believe you can summon Sellsword Luet for this battle near the ladder leading to the third bonfire.

Initially, the path to this boss is closed. To unlock it, you must talk to the Miracle Merchant right after the Dragon Rider boss in Heida's Flame Tower. After all the phrases, she will go to Majula and stand near the switch at the fork through which you entered the Fire Tower of Heid and for a modest fee of 2000 souls she will switch the road and open the Hunter's Grove.

Follow the path Hunter's Grove -> Harvest Valley -> Earthen Peak -> Iron Citadel. The boss is at the end of the last one.

Killing him with a magician is as easy as shelling pears. Roll away from his fiery attacks, drink the flask, shoot spells. Being a warrior is also nothing complicated. Get closer, dodge the blows and hit the hands.

You can summon a phantom archer immediately below after the third bonfire. Will help.
