How to unlock the Lucatiel achievement in DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin - Definitive Guide

This achievement unlocks once Lucatiel of Mirrah gives you her armour and weapon. This achievement is missable if you talk to Lucatiel in Aldia's Keep before completing the conditions.

There are a total of four locations where you can talk to and summon Lucatiel. You must Exhaust Lucatiel's dialogue at three different locations, and she must assist you as a white phantom on corresponding area bosses three times.

She must survive the boss fights for it to count. Therefore, I suggest you clear the path between her and the boss before summoning her. Also, you can use the Redeye ring (purchased from Shalquoir in Majula) to take the heat off her during the boss fight. If she dies then you can either leave (homeward bone/Darksign) or die, then you can try again.

If you miss one of these locations then you are still all right. If you have missed more than one then you may be able to use a bonfire ascetic to redo the location, as long as you have not yet talked to Lucatiel in Aldia's Keep.

Remember that to summon phantoms you must be human, to become human use a human effigy. Her summon sign will also not appear if you have the Name-Engraved ring equipped or you have your summon sign down. Thanks to New Legend PL for this.

Locations and Bosses:

1. No Man's Wharf:

Lucatiel is found inside a building (not next to the bonfire as in the original version), to get there go from the bonfire. Go along the pier where the archer is, then up the stairs between two wooden buildings (beware of ambush). At the top of the stairs look a bit to your left in front of you and there will be some stairs leading up in a house. Go up these and Lucatiel should be standing there. Exhaust her dialogue.

She will then be a summon for the Flexile Sentry, you will find her just before the stairs on the pier to the ship.

2. Lost Bastille/Sinner's Rise:

Lucatiel will be in a tower near the Tower Apart bonfire in the Lost bastille. That is the bonfire you reach by defeating the Pursuer in the Forest of Fallen Giants, and then getting carried by the eagle. Once you are there, exit the door at the bonfire and she is in the tower across the path in front of you, exhaust her dialogue.

You will need to progress through the Lost Bastille and reach Sinner's Rise (the next area) to summon her. Her summon sign can be found at the bottom of the elevator. I strongly suggest you kill the enemies before summoning her as there is a flexile sentry and many high damaging enemies.

3. Harvest Valley/Iron Keep:

Lucatiel's location for this has changed since the original version. She can now be found in Harvest Valley (rather than Earthen Peak). From the Mines bonfire go through towards Earthen Peak. You will come to a bridge with a green hammer guy. After the bridge go right and round into a large room with poison pots. Go through the door at the far end of this room and take a right. Follow this path a short distance until a door on your right. Go into that room and Lucatiel will be standing against the wall, exhaust her dialogue.

The boss fight for her is two areas along in the Iron Keep, where she helps you fight Smelter Demon. Her summon sign will be just after the bridge you have to lower, in front of the fog gate.

4. Black Gulch:

Lucatiel is in a hidden cave. From the first bonfire go out to the left and follow the path. There should be two statues then a third on your right. The group after this third is where you want to stop. Just before this group slowly go forward to the edge and you should be able to just make out a ledge below you (turn your brightness up if you can't see it) if you can see it then edge forward until you fall and you will land on the ledge. Go up through this cave and Lucatiel will be standing against the wall, exhaust her dialogue.

You can then summon her for the Rotten, she is in the room with the second bonfire. This bonfire is found in a cave by following the edge all the way along. You need a Fragrant Branch of Yore to unpetrify a hollow which blocks your way. A fragrant Branch can be found on a body where you dropped down before the fog gate leading into Black Gulch. For more locations of branches see the 'Change of Clothes' guide.

Inherit the Items:

Once you have completed three of the four above locations you must meet her in a small wooden building in Aldia's keep, before going up the stairs into the Keep. There will be a bonfire in this building, and she will be sitting against the wall. Talk to her until she gives you her equipment. Then the achievement should pop.

If you are interested, look at her face carefully at her final location in Aldia's Keep and you may see a change.

Warning I just got her gear and have been playing for two hours wearing the gear, I exhausted the dialogue and revived the gear but no achievement.
Glitches can happen here.

@Vilkolakiai
That same thing happened to me as well just a few minutes ago. Got her gear, no achievement. I was even talking to one of my friends who was getting her gear at the same time and his popped when it was supposed to. The only guess I have is that I had gotten disconnected from the server during a fight earlier and was in offline mode when I got the gear.

you can also become human from helping other people fight bosses, just put ur summon sign down n get summoned to a boss fight if you succeed then you will regain your humanity without using a human effigy, the areas with and orange border around them are ones that are heavily populated area and is where you are most likely to get summoned

So I talked to her at Aldia's Keep before summoning her 3 times. Is there anyway to get her back?

Not that I know of, I think you have missed the achievement. You will have to do it in another playthrough. To get all of the achievements you will likely play halfway into NG++, so you could easily just be careful to get this in NG+.

I only summoned her for No-mans wharf boss and none others, and i didn't speak to her in all locations until after i visited the memories of the trees. So you don't have to summon her for all the boss battles, just talk to her in each location.

I just went through to try and confirm that, but it didn't work for me. I tried doing it with a boss kill and without any, but no equipment. So unless anyone else can confirm in your favour then I can't put it on the guide.

She doesn't have to survive three in a row, just any of the above three boss battles at some point. So, from what you've said, you should be able to get the achievement.

Not sure what's gone wrong for me. I'm in Black Gulch and having spoken to and Summoned her in all previous locations. For some dumb reason I ended up force quitting the game when before entering the boss for the second time (I should have used the separation crystal) as I needed to save and quit. Now there is no summon sign for her and she does not appear in the lower cave. I guess I should just carry on and see if it'll be ok as a couple of others have suggested...

All I can suggest is that you do the alternative fights, but if you struggle too much or it is glitched then a new playthrough is the way to go.

Yes, as long as you complete the other three available boss battles with her, or use a bonfire ascetic to do that fight with her again.

I found 1 important thing:
Her summon sign will not appear if you have the Name-Engraved ring equipped, a summon sign written or not in human form

I've read that using an ascetic and re-summoning her for a boss like the Flexile sentry counts as another fight won towards the count of 3. So technically you could have her live through 3 Flexile sentry fights and then just talk to her at the other locations and get her gear.

Yes, the use of ascetic has already been specified, although not to say that you can just do the same one multiple times.

Okay, so I summoned her vs Flexile Sentry and The Lost Sinner. Missed The Rotten and Smelter Demon. Now, any way I can summon her for another boss fight? I read somewhere she is available in the DLC and it will count towards her 3 summons.

I strongly suggest you kill the enemies before summoning her as there is a flexile sentry and many high damaging enemies

This is legit advice cry

I summoned her for Flexile Sentry (survived), then the Lost Sinner (survived), then the Rotten (died), and then Smelter Demon (survived). I've talked to her in all locations except Aldia's Keep, and that's my next area. My question is this: does she have to survive three battles in a row? Because if it's just 3 battles then I should be all set to get the achievement when I talk to her at Aldia's, but if it's in a row I'll need to use bonfire ascetics. So, a second question: If I summon her for the Rotten using ascetics, how many times do I do it? She last survived Smelter Demon, so I should only need to do the Rotten 2 times, right? I've already used an ascetic to respawn the Rotten, summoned Lucatiel, and we both died, so hopefully THAT doesn't screw with the order either.

I had to talk to her at all four locations to get her to appear at Aldia's Keep. I had not talked to her at Harvest Valley, but talk to her at the other locations as well as had her survive three boss fights. Once I went back to Harvest Valley and talked to here there, she spawned at Aldia's Keep.

This achievement needs some planning to make it as easy as possible so try to do things in the order I list them in order to make life easier on yourself. For more information on specific bosses/locations my walkthrough is here.

IMPORTANT: Her locations have changed for Scholar of the First Sin, so be sure not to miss her. You can talk to her in ANY order, but you need to speak to her in No Mans Wharf and in the hidden tunnel at the start of Black Gulch to make her available for boss fights. Her last spot is ALWAYS Aldia's Keep and she needs to have survived three fights BEFORE you speak to her here. This has to be done in ONE playthrough.

In No Mans Wharf (past Heide’s Tower of Flame) head past the first groups on enemies until you are at the bottom of a long flight of stone steps, go up to the first level and into the building on your left. Up the stairs in here to find Lucatiel leaning against a wall. (NOTE: Originally she was by the bonfire just before this area so don't miss her).

Now you can work through No Man’s Wharf but don’t enter the fog gate on the ship at the end. Instead examine the wooden docks just before the ship and (if you are human NOT hollow) you should find a summon sign for Lucatiel on the floor. It’s better to kill all other enemies before the boss to make your life easier. You can also lower a shortcut just behind where Carhillion of the Fold sits back to the start and find a second summon sign which will make the fight a doddle. Now take her to the Flexile Sentry boss fight and kill him – MAKE SURE SHE SURVIVES THE FIGHT OTHERWISE IT DOESN’T COUNT, this holds true for every time you summon her. She needs to survive 3 fights out of the four available. To make things easier you can buy the Redeye Ring from the cat in Majula for 6,700 souls as this will force the enemies to focus on you rather than the NPC.

After you kill the Last Giant you will get the Soldiers Key, you can use this to access a door behind the Ironclad Solder opposite the ballista room. Up here you will find the fog gate leading to The Pursuer. You need to defeat him and then go into the room behind him to find a birds nest, examine it to be taken to the Lost Bastille. From where you land you need to head to the tower opposite to find Lucatiel. Talk to her until she repeats herself. You can also reach her if coming via No Mans Wharf. From the Exile Cells come onto the battlements, down the ladder and then left to a pull switch that opens a gate. Through the gate and up the stairs will get you to her tower.

Be sure to summon her for the Lost Sinner fight in Sinners Rise (her summon sign is in the same room that the elevator stops in on your way down, again kill the enemies leading to the fog gate before activating her).

You will find her again in Earthen Peak (she has once again moved from where she was in the original Dark Souls 2). As soon as you enter Earthen Peak proper (and the words actually come up on screen) look to your right, after killing an enemies of course). You will see a little passage in the bottom right corner that you cannot use until you stop the poison by burning the windmill further up the tower. Do this and REMEMBER TO COME BACK HERE AND SPEAK TO HER. Then talk to her until she repeats herself again.

You can summon her for the Smelter Demon fight in Iron Keep (it’s an optional boss just after the bridge you can lower) and her sign is right outside. This is a tough one to get her to survive but it can be done, I especially recommend summoning another player to help out to make things easier.

Next you will find her in the Black Gulch. When you enter, go left into the bonfire room and light a torch. Now go back out and edge along the cliff right outside until you see a platform you can drop down to (near a cluster of three poison spitting statues). Do so and you will find Lucatiel leaning against the wall in this passage, talk to her repeatedly. Then continue onwards but DO NOT go in the fog gate, you need to find the hidden bonfire. If you hug the wall to the left (if your back is to the fog gate) and follow it until you reach the cliff edge, you can then go left on a narrow path to the bonfire room (IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a statue blocking this entrance so be sure to have a Fragrant Branch of Yore on you - you get one on a corpse just before entering Black Gulch, so don't use it anywhere else) and Lucatiel’s summon sign. Now you can fight The Rotten and make sure she survives.

You can also find her in the Crown of the Ivory King DLC, in the Grand Cathedral, to be summoned for the boss fight there which would count towards the requirements if she survives.

Continue with the game until you reach Aldia’s Keep and she will be in the first little hut by the bonfire. DO NOT SPEAK TO HER UNLESS SHE HAS SURVIVED THREE BOSS FIGHTS as she will vanish after your conversation is done. If you found her and she survived the required number of fights you will get her equipment and the achievements.

If you missed a fight or she died (if she dies before the boss is dead then you can let it kill you and summon her again, though obviously you need to use an Effigy or Life Protection Ring to be human again) you have two options. Either try again on NG+ OR use a Bonfire Ascetic at the relevant bonfire (No Mans Wharf, Threshold Bridge, Sinners Rise, Hidden Bonfire – Black Gulch) to make the boss respawn and attempt the fight again. If you do the latter the boss will be tougher and (in the case of the Sinner and Flexile Sentry) have allies. You can theoretically use this method to get all three boss wins on ONE fight if you feel like it (so defeating the Flexile Sentry three times on one playthrough via Ascetic use would be fine). But you still HAVE TO speak to her in the required places and have the wins before talking to her in Aldia’s Keep.

Missable!

For this trophy, like with Benhart but only slightly trickier, you must meet Lucatiel and exhaust her dialogue in all possible locations, summon and have her survive 3 boss battles. She will then show up at the bonfire in Aldia's Keep and give you her equipment. Like Benhart, you can use ascetics and fight the same boss 3 times if you so wish. If she dies in a fight, you can allow yourself to be killed and retry the boss again. See below for locations and possible boss fight summons.

No-Man's Wharf - Lucatiel has moved from her location on the PS3 version. She is not at the bonfire but do not panic. She has moved to an area on the left side in the one of the houses higher up. Her summon sign has been relocated to one of the docks near the ship, so you so not have to worry about her falling in to the water through the level anymore.

Lost Bastille - Warp to McDuff's workshop bonfire. Head straight up the stairs to the tower at the far end. She will be leaning against the wall. You can summon her for the Lost Sinner fight. Her sign is located just after taking the elevator down, in the basement.

Earthen Peak - Her location has moved from the PS3 version. She is near the start of the level, past the poison pool and in the room where the Poisonbite ring is. You can drain the poison first or just run through it. Either way, you can now summon her for the Smelter Demon boss.

Black Gulch - At the first bonfire, run out of the cave and you should see a ledge you can drop down to. Use a torch if you can't see it. This will allow you to summon her for The Rotten. Her sign shows up at the Hidden Chamber bonfire. You need a Fragrant Branch of Yore to reach here on the PS4 version.

Aldia's Keep - If you have exhausted all her dialogue and had her survive 3 boss battles, she will show up at the bonfire. Talk to her to receive her equipment and the trophy.

If you did not meet the above requirements, she will not appear at Aldia's Keep and you will have to attempt this trophy on New game+.

Lucatiel's entire armor set and weapons can be obtained by completing her personal quest line. It is necessary to call her for help in battles with bosses three or more times, and at least three times she must remain alive. If all conditions are met, in the Aldia Citadel, she will thank you by handing over her weapons and armor, this will also unlock the achievement associated with her. It is not necessary to call her to different bosses, you can call her to any one three times in a row using the embers of hostility, but you need to talk to her in all possible locations.

-Iron citadel - in front of the demon from the smelter.

Do not talk to her in the Aldia Citadel unless you are sure that all the conditions have been met. Otherwise, after the conversation the character will disappear and you will not receive the gear.

You need to talk to Lucatiel in four places: Deserted Marina, Forgotten Fortress, Earthen Peak and Black Cleft.

Some experience with summoning a phantom:

- Deserted pier - easy to summon, but before that it’s better to clear the ship of unnecessary mobs (and the phantom on NG+). The boss is easy to kill, killed on NG+ and NG++. It helps a lot to distract the extra 2 mobs on the boss. And you also need to go very carefully to the boss with it, I had it fall into the water 2 times...

- Black Cleft - on NG+ the red phantom in front of the boss also gets in the way, but on the boss it’s very easy. Summoned on NG++, Lukatiel remained alive.

- Hill of Sinners is the most problematic of all locations for this phantom, tested on NG+ and NG++. You need to clear all the mobs up to the boss, including 2 red mobs to the left and right of the entrance, otherwise Lucatiel will run to kill them and fly off the cliff. On the boss itself, she is really needed to distract 2 pyromancers on NG+.

- Iron Citadel - no comments , because I had already managed to get the achievement on the Rotting and Flexible Sentinel by that time.
