How to unlock the Iron Keep Bonfire achievement in DARK SOULS II - Definitive Guide
The King is vulnerable to lightning-based attacks, including lightning infused weapons and the Lightning Spear miracle available for purchase from Licia of Lindeldt. You can also find a copy of the Lightning Spear miracle in the Earthen Peak, near where you encounter Mild Mannered Pate. I went ahead and attuned both, given that my Faith at this point in my playthrough was 23+.
The Old Iron King doesn't move very much; he'll stand in the lava and use two styles of attack against you. If you're too close, he'll use his arms to sweep and slam his fists against the stone platform, which does lots of damage. If you're further away, he will employ various fire-based attacks, including: launching various beams of fire from his mouth, breathing a sweeping string of fireballs across the arena, and using a double-fisted slam to trigger a Firestorm.
For magic users, focus on using Lightning Spear from a distance. There's a bit of wall on the far right side of the arena you can try to use for cover, but the King's attacks can hurt you through the wall, so be careful. For physical attackers, try to dodge his fist slams and attack his arms as he recovers.
Once the Old Iron King is dead, you'll be able to enter a door behind you on the far right side of the ruin island you fought on. A treasure chest and some stairs await and, at the bottom of the steps, is the Iron Keep Primal bonfire. Light it and the achievement is yours.

You will have to defeat the Old Iron King boss and light the primal bonfire in order to get this trophy. To be able to access this boss you will have to have beaten the Dragonslayer at Heide's Tower of Flame in order to talk to Licia of Lindelt and exhaust her dialogue options to get her to return to Majula. The pathway that leads to this boss is:
1. From Mujula, take the stairs down behind the Cat's house.
2. Get Licia of Lindelt to turn the Rotunda to gain access to Huntsman's Copse.
3. Beat the Skeleton Lords boss to gain access to Harvest Valley.
4. Defeat Covetous Demon boss to gain access to Earthen Peak.
5. Defeat Mytha, the Baneful Queen to gain access to the Iron Keep.
6. *Optional but recommended* Defeat Smelter Demon
7. Keep progressing through the Iron Keep to reach the Old Iron King Boss.
As for the actual boss fight, it again is fairly simple. Magic/Lightning/Dark based weapons and spells will deal the most damage to him, ranged spells are the best options to use (Soul Arrows, Lightning, Hexes, etc) or elementally enhanced weapons. You should only physically attack him when he stomps his hands down and leaves them on the platform for about 15 seconds. Otherwise just used ranged attacks to wither his health away as he tries to attack you. Running to the right side behind the wall is a good place to dodge most his fire breath attacks but watch for him charging his hand for a beam attack which will hit you through the wall unless you dodge roll. Story progression – can’t be missed. You need to defeat the Old Iron King at the end of the Iron Keep to access the bonfire. He will come out of the lava and use a number of crushing attacks or flame based ranged attacks. For his physical attacks you can dodge under his horizontal swings and dodge his overhead smash at the last second – both leave him open to a counter. If you stay close, he shouldn’t use his long ranged flame attacks that often, but be warned they CAN hit you through the stone walls here and knock you into the lava, so only heal when you have a moment. If you have the Gyrm shield (found from enemies in the Doors of Pharros) you can block the flame strikes at the cost of a LOT of stamina. In truth, he is fairly easy due to his habit of standing still and telegraphing his blows. Once he dies, go into the small building here to activate the Primal bonfire.
2) punches. There are only 3 different strikes - a sweeping strike that can knock him out of the arena, powerful punches to the ground and fiery strikes that cause an explosion. You can hide from everyone in the same place - around the corner.
3) "laser". The boss swings back and lunges with his hand, releasing a stream of fire from it. You can easily dodge him with a simple roll, after which you should hit him. The flow will not change direction, so you will have 5 seconds during which you can calmly beat the boss.
He also periodically dives into lava and after a few seconds emerges near the character. Just go to the opposite end of the arena from the corner (near the entrance) so that the boss will emerge there, this way you will maintain a safe zone around the corner.
it’s easy to find - right after the L-shaped very narrow corridor with two turtles there will be a room with fire-breathing “heads”. on the left side of this room there will be a staircase leading up to a fire and at the same time a lever that turns off all the fire-breathing “heads” in the location
there will still be a red phantom, so don't relax
