How to unlock the Lucatiel achievement in DARK SOULS II - Definitive Guide
You earn this achievement by fully progressing Lucatiel of Mirrah's questline. If done properly, when you meet her at Aldia's Keep late in the game, she will give you her equipment and the achievement will pop.
You must talk to Lucatiel in several locations (always exhaust her dialogue) as you progress through the game and summon her to at least three boss battles which she must survive.
Dialogue Locations
•By the No-man's Wharf bonfire
•In a tower between Mcduff's Workshop and Tower Apart bonfires in the Lost Bastille
•In the Black Gulch below the main path- drop to a ledge on the right side of the area
•Near the Lower Earthen Peak bonfire
•Aldia's Keep by the Foregarden bonfire
Summon Locations
•Next to the shortcut gate in No-man's Wharf (Boss: Flexile Sentry)
•At the bottom of the lift in Sinner's Rise (Boss: Lost Sinner)
•Right outside the Smelter Demon fog door (Boss: Smelter Demon)
•Next to the second bonfire in the Black Gulch (Boss: the Rotten)
This achievement is missable but can still be gotten after defeating the final boss AS LONG AS YOU HAVE NOT TALKED TO LUCATIEL ONCE SHE HAS MOVED TO ALDIA'S KEEP. Once you talk to her there, she disappears for good and if you haven't summoned her for three boss battles, she won't give you her gear and you won't encounter her again until your next playthrough.
I got this achievement after defeating the final boss. I had never talked to her in the Black Gulch and I had never summoned her to a boss battle, so I started by talking to her in the Black Gulch to advance her to Aldia's Keep. I made sure she was there BUT I DID NOT TALK TO HER.
I then used a bonfire ascetic on the No-man's Wharf bonfire.
WARNING: this resets all enemies and loot in the area and makes the enemies in the area as difficult as they would be in NG+. Furthermore, it carries on through successive playthroughs so in this area in NG+, the enemies will be as strong as they would be in NG++. Be sure that you are willing to accept this permanent change before using a bonfire ascetic!
I dashed past everything to Lucatiel's summon sign and killed the few enemies that chased me. I then led her to the boat and sprinted to the fog door. This battle, which is equivalent to NG+, includes two smaller, super-annoying enemies that weren't in the initial playthrough battle. I did my best to stay alive for the 10 or so seconds it took Lucatiel to arrive, killed the little guys, then carefully equipped the Redeye ring so the Flexile Sentry focused on me instead of Lucatiel. Lucatiel survived the battle.
I then used a second bonfire ascetic on the No-man's Wharf bonfire and repeated the steps above to kill the Flexile Sentry a second time with Lucatiel.
Next, I used a bonfire ascetic on the Sinners' Rise bonfire. I took the lift down and killed the three big enemies and a couple of smaller guys, summoned Lucatiel, and equipped the Redeye Ring. I then sprinted to the fog door, quickly entered, and defeated the Lost Sinner with Lucatiel still alive. I did a lot of tanking (the Sinner and his two friends were focused on me), allowing Lucatiel to deal the bulk of the damage.
I then went to the Aldia's Keep bonfire and talked to Lucatiel. She gave me her gear and the achievement popped.
I'm either going to try upgrading the bonfire at the Black Gulch 3 times, or start a new game and try my luck that way. The Rotten on +5 sounds a little scary though.
You can find Lucatiel in the following locations:
* No-Man's Wharf - Against the wall next to the bonfire.
* The Lost Bastille - The first floor of the tower across from The Tower Apart bonfire. (The one you arrive at if you take the shortcut from the Pursuer boss battle.)
* Earthen Peak - By the first bonfire right after the Covetous Demon boss fight.
* Black Gulch - After leaving the cave with the first bonfire and turning left, look for an outcropping below the cliff edge you're walking along. You should see it just before you reach the first pools of flammable liquid on the ground. (Carrying a torch may make it easier to see it.)
* Aldia's Keep - In the wooden building that has the first bonfire. WARNING: Do not speak to her here if you have not completed her quest. Doing so will cause her to disappear and prevent you from earning this Trophy in the current playthrough.
Speaking to her will enable her to be summoned for the following boss fights:
* Flexile Sentry (No-Man's Wharf) - Her summon sign is next to the chain that opens the gate to create a shortcut.
* The Lost Sinner (Sinner's Rise) - After taking the elevator down, her sign is next to the sconce.
* Smelter Demon (Iron Keep) - Her sign is a short distance from the fog gate. You can see it when you cross the bridge that has to be lowered.
* The Rotten (Black Gulch) - Her sign is next to the second bonfire.
Lucatiel must be alive at the end of three boss in order for you to get her equipment from her at Aldia's Keep. It does not matter which fights you win with her; as long as she survives three of them, you can speak to her in Aldia's Keep, get her equipment, and get the Trophy.
If Lucatiel dies during a boss fight, you can burn a Bonfire Ascetic and try the fight again. Be careful; some boss fights change in NG+ and the effect of the Ascetic will persist during all future playthroughs.
It happens to me twice in NG+ and i'n going for Aldia...
This trophy is missable, if you end up talking to Lucatiel in every point of the game so that she shows up at Aldia's Keep and you did not fight 3 bosses with her and have her survive she will disappear from the game.
In order to get this trophy you need have talked to Lucatiel and exhausted all dialogue options with her whenever you see her in the game. You then need to summon her and have her survive 3 of the 4 possible boss fights.
The places you see her are:
1. No man's Wharf Bonfire.
- Allows her to be summon for the Versatile Sentry Boss. Her signal will be near the door where you pulled the level to get a shortcut passing through the level.
2. Lost Bastille (McDuff Bonfire) - Head straight up the stairs, beat the enemies and she is in the tower.
- This will allow you to summon for for the Lost Sinner (Sinner's Rise) boss battle. Her signal will be in the basement after you take the elevator down to the holding cell area.
3. Lower Earthen Keep Bonfire.
- This will allow you to summon her for the Smelter Demon (Iron Keep) boss fight. Her summon sign will be right before the boss door.
4. Black Gulch (Mouth Bonfire) - Under that bonfire, you have to drop down to a small exposed ledge right outside the bonfire.
- This will allow you to summon her for the The Rotten (Black Gulch) boss, her signal will be at the Hidden Chamber bonfire in the Black Gulch
5. Aldia's Keep (Foregarden) - This is where she gives you the equipment, she will only show up here if you've talked to her in every other location.
You do not have to meet the NPCs or fight the bosses in the order they were listed. You can also summon them for the same boss in the same playthrough by using Bonfire Ascetics as confirmed by players.
If Lucatiel dies you can simply choose to die and redo the boss battle resummoning him or quit the game and reload it and summon him again. If you've already completed a boss battle I would recommend just trying to go for this trophy in NG+ but you ca use the Bonfire Ascetic item on the bonfire closest to the boss to respawn that boss and summon Lucatiel for that battle again. I do not advise doing that because the bosses will be harder making it harder for Benhart to survive, so only do that if you are extremely overpowered and can kill the boss quickly or have another strong human phantom to help you kill the boss before Lucatiel is killed.
This achievement needs some planning to make it as easy as possible so try to do things in the order I list them in order to make life easier on yourself. For more information on specific bosses/locations my walkthrough is here.
You can talk to her in ANY order, but you need to speak to her at the bonfire in No Mans Wharf and in the hidden tunnel at the start of Black Gulch to make her available for boss fights. Her last spot is ALWAYS Aldia's Keep and she needs to have survived three fights BEFORE you speak to her here. This has to be done in ONE playthrough.
In No Mans Wharf (past Heide’s Tower of Flame) and she will be at the bonfire just before that area so speak to her until she repeats. Now you can work through No Man’s Wharf, but don’t enter the fog gate on the ship at the end. Instead, go back up the stone steps that led down to wharf the ship arrives at and into the wooden door on the left, go up the stairs in this building and you should find a summon sign for Lucatiel on the floor in this room (by a door that you can only open from this side). It’s better to kill all other enemies before the boss to make your life easier. Now take her to the Flexile Sentry boss fight and kill him – MAKE SURE SHE SURVIVES THE FIGHT OTHERWISE IT DOESN’T COUNT, this holds true for every time you summon her. She needs to survive three fights out of the four available. To make things easier you can buy the Redeye Ring from the cat in Majula for 6,700 souls as this will force the enemies to focus on you rather than the NPC.
After you kill the Last Giant you will get the Soldiers Key, you can use this to access a door behind the Ironclad Solder opposite the ballista room. Up here you will find the fog gate leading to The Pursuer. You need to defeat him and then go into the room behind him to find a birds nest, examine it to be taken to the Lost Bastille. From where you land you need to head to the tower opposite to find Lucatiel. Talk to her until she repeats herself. You can also reach her if coming via No Mans Wharf. From the Exile Cells come onto the battlements, down the ladder near the Heide Knight and then left to a pull switch that opens a gate. Through the gate and up the stairs will get you to her tower.
Be sure to summon her for the Lost Sinner fight in Sinners Rise (her summon sign is in the same room that the elevator stops in on your way down, again kill the enemies leading to the fog gate before activating her).
You will find her again in the bonfire room in Earthen Peak (just after the Covetous Demon fight and assuming you spoke to her in the other two places). So talk to her until she repeats herself again.
You can summon her for the Smelter Demon fight in Iron Keep (it’s an optional boss just after the bridge you can lower) and her sign is right outside. This is a tough one to get her to survive but it can be done, I especially recommend summoning another player to help out to make things easier.
Next you will find her in the Black Gulch. When you enter, go left into the bonfire room and light a torch. Now go back out and edge along the cliff right outside until you see a platform you can drop down to (near a cluster of three poison spitting statues). Do so and you will find Lucatiel leaning against the wall in this passage, talk to her repeatedly. Then continue onwards but DO NOT go in the fog gate, you need to find the hidden bonfire. If you hug the wall to the left (if your back is to the fog gate) and follow it until you reach the cliff edge, you can then go left on a narrow path to the bonfire room and Lucatiel’s summon sign. Now you can fight The Rotten and make sure she survives.
Continue with the game until you reach Aldia’s Keep and she will be in the first little hut by the bonfire. DO NOT SPEAK TO HER UNLESS SHE HAS SURVIVED THREE BOSS FIGHTS as she will vanish after your conversation is done. If you found her and she survived the required number of fights you will get her equipment and the achievements.
If you missed a fight or she died (if she dies before the boss is dead then you can let it kill you and summon her again, though obviously you need to use an Effigy or Life Protection Ring to be human again) you have two options. Either try again on NG+ OR use a Bonfire Ascetic at the relevant bonfire (No Mans Wharf, Threshold Bridge, Sinners Rise, Hidden Bonfire – Black Gulch) to make the boss respawn and attempt the fight again. If you do the latter the boss will be tougher and (in the case of the Sinner and Flexile Sentry) have allies. You can theoretically use this method to get all three boss wins on ONE fight if you feel like it (so defeating the Flexile Sentry three times on one playthrough via Ascetic use would be fine). But you still HAVE TO speak to her in the required places and have the wins before talking to her in Aldia’s Keep.

So if you suddenly don’t delay some kind of boss battle so that she survives, or skip it (for example, like me, in Black Gulch), feel free to get the trophy on ng+. Or use Bonfire Ascetic, but at your own peril and risk, in subsequent playthroughs these locations, due to their increased complexity, may become a dead end for you. Or add vivid impressions to the game
The trophy can be obtained by killing, for example, The Rotten three times in one playthrough (using a bonfire ascetic) with a surviving Lucatiel. Then exhaust her lines in aldia's keep and she will give up her equipment. It is not necessary to kill different bosses, the main thing is that she survives three battles. By the way, when her lines in aldia's keep end, she will disappear from the game, regardless of whether you have fulfilled the conditions for receiving the trophy.
On ng+, bosses hit harder, and some have even acquired assistants. But your build for ng+ simply must take on some clear outlines. Often ng+ is easier due to your knowledge of the world around you. Well, that is, of course, if you didn’t read the guides on your first playthrough and completely ruined your first gaming experience.
So, a few tips:
1) If you own Great Shield, then Redeye Ring will greatly increase Lucatiel's chances of survival. This ring makes bosses and enemies focus on you. Rotten will completely focus on your person. It’s better not to go to Flexile Sentry on ng+ with this ring. At the very beginning of the battle, two nasty nimble ninja-like enemies jump out, penetrate the shield and their attacks cause Bleed in two or three hits. They are already very aggressive, and with this ring they will incessantly attack you. Flexile Sentry too.
2) Maximize the damage you can do. Rings, buffs, powerful spells. Prepare and save all this for the boss fight. You don't want a drawn-out battle in which an insane Lucatiel will definitely die.
3) Call Lucatiel when you clear the path of small enemies or are ready to heal her with Warmth, for example.
4) Before The Rotten, also call Lone Hunter Schmidt, this will simplify the task to the limit, the guys will do almost all the work for you. Just first break the poisonous statues before entering the boss.
5) If Lucatiel does die, use homeward bone or aged feather. In this case, she can be called to battle again.
