How to unlock the The Heir achievement in DARK SOULS II - Definitive Guide

You get this achievement for beating the game, it pops after the credits stop.

Here's a road map on how to beat the game.

You can still do everything after beating the final boss in the Throne of Want (you'll need a soul of a giant before the boss pops up in the Throne though). After beating the final boss, you can hit NG+ whenever you want by clicking the Majula bonfire. I recommend slaughtering every NPC you can for giggles and loot before NG+ The hag ladies you meet in the beginning of the game drop 8 human effigies if you kill them!

I finished the game around level 190 but only because I knocked off all the NG achievements first. Realistically most people finish the game around level 100-120.

Ok I finished NG, my question is will I get any special items by killing the giant lord before killing Nashandra? If so , is the item needed for any achievement? I actually have killed the giant lord first, then killed defender and watcher, but I was killed by Nashandra. So that respwaned and used the defender souls for the defender great swords , and when I come back to the final boss area , I don't see the duo bosses anymore , but just Nashandra and I killed her and received her souls, I am just wondering if I have missed any items , since technically I was not fighting her right after duo bosses?

In the solution you say that you need a Soul of a Giant for Nashandra to appear, but this is not the case. The Souls of a Giant merely lower King Vendrick's defenses and have no bearing on Nashandra.

However when you kill the Giant Lord in the Memory of Jeigh you'll receive, in addition to his soul, the Giant's Kinship "key". It is the Giant's Kinship that makes Nashandra appear after the Throne Watcher/Defender fight.

This is a story related achivement and it can't be missed. It's for beating the game. The final bosses is located in Dragleic Castle, left to the bonfire "King's Gate". You must have the King's Ring equipped to open the gate.

As a side note: Don't worry if you haven't explored the whole world because when you beat the game you will be back at the bonfire at Majula and you can explore how much you want and travel between bonfires as usual.

If you want to start NG+ you can choose the option "Begin journey 2 to Dragleic" from the same bonfire in Majula.

Good luck!

Thank you! I was looking everywhere online, but couldn't find anything saying if NG+ starts right after the final boss or not.

Here is a playlist link to a full walkthrough of Dark Souls 2 with commentary. It features a powerful setup that allows players of all skill levels to adequately destroy the game with very little investment.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming this is your guide considering you share the same user name. That being said you sound intelligent and knowledgeable about the game and I realize this isn't a blind play-through but some of your menu clicks are extremely fast without much explanation of what you're doing. I've watched all the way to Earthern Peak so far and I was wondering if you plan on imbuing any of your maces with anything. Also It would help if I knew a vague way that your distributing your SL points that best fits your build. I'm guessing hitting the soft cap of STR at 40 first and then dex and end?

Great guide and valid points in your commentary but I feel definitely directed at Souls veterans or advanced players due to the jargon you use. It took me forever to find out what scaling meant. Sorry if this sounds noobish or would have been better suited for a personal message.

This achievement will unlock when you complete the game.

The name of this secret achievement is "The Heir", and the description reads "See the ending."

Story progression – can’t be missed. Once you have the Ashen Mist Heart you need to use it on the various inanimate giants in the Forest of Fallen Giants (one near ballista room, one past Pursuer fog gate location and one through King’s door you can now open). Once these are complete, go to the King’s door in Drangleic castle (to the left of the first bonfire) and head to the Throne of Want. You then have two boss fights, back to back, though you can do the first one BEFORE doing the memories of the giants to make your life easier. After the last boss is defeating you have completed the game and get the achievement. You can then choose to mop up anything you have missed or go into NG+ (if you chose the first option you can then select NG+ from the Majula bonfire).

After using Ashen Mist Heart to acquire the 4 Soul of a Giant you will be able to challenge the final boss of the game. 3 of them are in the Forest of Fallen Giants and 1 is in the Black Gulch. Below is the path you will need to take to see the ending of the game:

1. Find all 4 Soul of a Giant
2. Defeat Throne Watchers
3. Defeat Nashandra.

The only boss you really need to worry about is Nashandra, she can curse you quickly which makes you lose your humanity / health so destroy the hexes she places around herself to prevent being cursed. Watch out for her hand beam attack which deals a lot of damage when you are far away. If she approaches you then she will attack with her Scythe, be aware of that as well. She seems to take damage evenly from everything so use your strongest spells/weapons on her, she is an easy boss in the end. Video guides outlining the walkthrough and bosses are below:

Give at the end of the credits, after the last boss of the game. You can't scroll through the credits (it seems). After them, a free play mode is available, and NG+ can be done through a fire in Majula, so don’t be afraid to finish the game)

On the first playthrough (NG), it is impossible to skip the credits, but on subsequent playthroughs (Ng+, Ng++) you need to click on x to skip the credits. And by the way, after the credits you can be given one of two items:
A. Illusory Ring of Exaltation - makes the weapon in the right hand invisible, to obtain it you need to complete the game without resting at the fire (exceptions are fires after the bosses: Forgotten Sinner, Old Iron King, Rotten, Duke's Favorite Freya, to make sure that you have lit the right one bonfire, instead of the inscription the bonfire is lit, the inscription the main bonfire will be restored). Lighting bonfires also does not count.
B. Illusory Ring of the Conqueror - makes the weapon in the left hand invisible; you cannot die to receive it. (Putting a curse effect on a character does not count).
However, obtaining these rings is optional.
