This achievement will pop for you after defeating the first boss, Iudex Gundyr. Defeating a boss always restores your ember, which can also be done by consuming an ember item that you will eventually find in limited quantities as you progress. Being in ember form allows you to summon help and increases your maximum health. You lose your ember when you die.

This is an easy trophy obtained for acquiring your first ember to make you a Host of Ember. You receive your first ember and its activation by defeating Iudex Gundyr, the first boss of the game in the Cemetery of Ash.

Achievement will unlock after defeating first boss - Iudex Gundyr, as Ember is always restored when boss is defeated.

Another possibilities of earning the ember is by helping someone defeat a boss in coop, or consuming ember item.

After becoming host of embers, the health is increased, it is possible to summon other players for help, and other players can invade the game.

Ember status is lost after dying.

Not long after the first bonfire you’ll come to a statue in a large area with a sword in it. Interact with the statue to start the first boss fight with Iudex Gundyr. He uses a number of sweeping spear attacks and thrusts, so dodge liberally and strike when you have an opening. At half health he will transform and become much slower but more damaging. Dodge his attacks and try and roll towards him as you do to get a strike in, but be wary of his grab move. Once he dies you will be a host of embers.
