How to unlock the Lords of Cinder: Abyss Watchers achievement in DARK SOULS III - Definitive Guide

The 6th boss you will fight & the first lord of cinder is the abyss watcher (easily one of dark souls best bosses).

In the arena there will be other enemies that will not only attack you but also attack the boss if you're lucky which gives you a chance to attack him while he is distracted. As a melee character I simply used a shield and moved around him and dodged him when needed and got some back stand on him but be warned he does move fast.

Although he may seem easy at first, once his health bar drops the second phase of this fight kicks in and he will become the lord of cinder form. The fight is basically the same but his attacks have more of a range and damage is increased but not by much.

The 6th boss? Well, I did think there was something odd about how I was fighting one of the Lords of Cinder as a third boss already. Man I have no idea how I've been able to skip 3 other bosses.

For me it was the fifth boss. Could have been fourth had I evaded Crystal Sage. The path has already branched at this point.

Worth mentioning- there are a few NPC summons available.

Black Hand Gotthard is directly in front of the boss door a short ways away.

Pale Londor Shade is by the Keep Perimiter bonfire IF you have 5 dark sigils from leveling up via Yoel.

Yellowfinger Heysel is back in Farron Keep near the Keep Ruins bonfire. Near the tower full of slugs with an undead bone shard inside. You have to have defeated her as an invader and offered a pale tongue to Rosaris in order for her sign to be there.

Sirris of the Sunless Realms can also be summoned but I don't know her exact location.

You can only have one summon for this battle unless you use the dried finger, which would allow you to have one additional.

My main problem with the 2nd phase is that the flame from the Farron Greatsword deals damage after each strike, which disrupts my rolling timing. I can dodge the strikes, but the flame remains and that deals damage to me.

Just a clarification: The path branch after the fight with Vordt. From that point you can go to the Curse-Rotten Greatwood, Crystal Sage or the Abyss Watchers. If you kill Greatwood, the Sage and the Deacons, Abyss will be your 6th boss.
Also when in phase one, there will be 3 Abyss Watchers but only one will be a wild card. It's the one with Red Eyes.
The other two will either attack the user, the phantoms or the one with the Red Eyes.
The one with Red Eyes will attack anyone that is close to him, no mater who it is.
Both the extra Abyss Watchers will disappear when going into phase 2.

Found at the end of Farron Keep.

You can potentially summon Sirris, Londor Pale Shade and Black Hand Gotthard depending on where you are with certain NPC’s. The first phase of the fight is interesting but straightforward the boss has a number of slashing and dash attacks but can be easily staggered, so do some damage when you can. A second enemy will rise up and attack you so watch out, however, a third enemy will then turn up and he will attack the boss (but can also damage you so be wary). Use this to your advantage to lose aggro and heal if needs be.

At half health the boss gains fire abilities and becomes more aggressive but the moveset stays the same and the other enemies stop coming. Take your time to doge attacks and strike when there is a clear opening.

You can get to this boss through a location filled with poisonous slurry. However, in order to open the gate to it, you need to activate (extinguish the fire) 3 furnaces. If you go from the fire, the stoves are located to the left, in the center and to the right of the fire. Once you activate them all, the gate to the boss will open.

At the first stage it does not pose a particular threat; the battle with it proceeds like with any mob. The problem could be revolting copies of it. Although they are killed quickly, they are a big nuisance.

At the second stage there will be no assistants, but the boss will move much faster and attack with fire at a distance. It will be much easier to kill him with a partner.

1) It’s very good to hit him with heavy weapons, ordinary attacks with a halberd do not allow the boss to do anything, but if you use lightning resin on the halberd (for 1000 souls from the merchant), you can solo the first stage in less than a minute, and the second in less than two.
2) It is necessary to remember that the boss is very susceptible to backstabbing; you can very technically drain him at both stages.
3) At the first stage, together with the boss, there are two knight mobs in the arena. One of them, with red eyes, attacks both us and two other enemies. You can deliberately set him on enemies, and only hit him in the back.
4) At the first stage, two mobs next to the boss, if you killed them, will respawn after a while.

In my opinion, one of the easier bosses. There are only 3 guardians in the arena. 1 main, one assistant to the main and one with red eyes who stuffs the main nozzle. You can simply run back until the 3rd one puts the main one down. If you don’t want to wait, then in a battle between the main and 3, you can simultaneously stab the main keeper in the back. Stage 2, we run from him and dodge. For the most part, the further the better. And we are waiting for a series of blows that is easier for you to remember. For me it was the last vertical strike with the sword and a spin from the sword. (These were the last blows in the boss’s moveset). We dodge and throw 2 light at him. The boss is boring because you have to wait and poke 2 times. I went solo, it was better to separate the armor for protection from fire and run in a block all the time. You can jump away from unexpected blows that remove almost all of the stamina once after hitting the block.

If it’s really a burden and you’re playing solo, then you can summon one of four phantoms to fight (you can summon one more at the same time as Hazel):
1) Blackhand Gotthard, sign on the path to the boss. When summoned, he gives the "I swear by my sword" gesture.
2) Sirris of the Sunless Lands, sign to the left of the entrance to the boss.
3) Pale Shadow from Londor, the sign will appear near the “Farron Citadel Boundary” bonfire if Yuria from Londor arrived at the Firelink Shrine and the player has not reset the black mark. Also receive the Duel Bow gesture.
4) Hazel Yellow Finger, a sign will appear near the tower with leeches if you defeat Hazel twice and extinguish all the lights of the citadel (provided you are in the Fingers of the Rosary covenant). When summoned, he gives the "Bow" gesture.
To summon phantoms, you must be in human form; if not, then use “Coal”.

I play as a Knight. There were about 5-6 attempts to kill him with a sword and shield and all ended in my defeat. But the idea came to take 2 swords. And it helped! I passed it this way the first time. It is advisable that you have pumped up strength and agility.
1) We take a more powerful sword in our left hand, because with our left hand, pressing , - we put protection, and on hit with a powerful attack.
2) We take a medium sword in our right hand, we will hit only with quick attacks, pressing .
The tactic is this: we hit with a strong attack on L2 (1 or 2 hits), then a couple of quick hits and somersaults. Do not hurry!!! It's better to dodge more, although it will take longer, but you will pass it the first time (maybe).
This tactic is suitable for both the first and second stages of the Boss; in the second stage, be more careful - dodge more.

You can quickly and easily defeat him by calling 2 partners. They beat him, and you can just stand on the side (or run in circles) or very carefully help them beat him. In a couple of minutes the boss will die and you will get the trophy
