How to unlock the Defeat Gravelord Nito achievement in DARK SOULS: REMASTERED - Definitive Guide

External image

This battle takes place in the Tomb of the Giants which is accessible through the Catacombs after defeating Pinwheel.

Gravelord Nito is one of four primary bosses that you must defeat to open the path to the Kiln of the First Flame which leads to Gwyn, the game's final boss. The Tomb of the Giants is one of the more challenging areas of the game because there is very little natural light, forcing the player to create their own light source, and the enemies are aggressive and hit hard.

There are three ways to create light:
1) Skull Lantern, which can be equipped and held like a shield. They can be dropped by catacombs necromancers and one can be found on a corpse in the pit Patches kicks you into in the Tomb of the Giants.
2) Cast Light sorcery, which is sold by Dusk of Oolacile and requires 14 INT to use.
3) Sunlight Maggot helm (my preferred option), which is always dropped by a Sunlight Maggot in the Lost Izalith shortcut (which can be accessed by going through Lost Izalith the proper way if need be).

As you progress through the Tomb of the Giants, you will eventually reach an outside-ish area that is fully lit with a cliffside path that leads to a cave. Head into the cave and continue past some enemies into an open area with Pinwheel Servants where you will find find the fog wall to Nito behind some easily breakable bones and debris. You can traverse the light without starting the encounter- you must drop off the ledge into the room below before the Nito battle begins.

The Nito area is somewhat large but you want to try to stay close to where you fall in as to not aggro numerous skeletal enemies. Three skeletons will always engage you and unless they are killed with a Divine weapon, then will come back to life for the duration of the battle. Your best option here is to find the Occult Club in Anor Londo and have Andre modify it down to Divine +5, use it to kill the three skeletons, and then switch to your primary weapon for Nito, who will make his way towards you as you are dealing with his minions.

Other weapons that have innate Divine property are Astora's Straight Sword, Crescent Axe, Silver Knight Spear, and Grant. Most have a Faith requirement, though.

Nito will use a combination of magic and melee attacks, most annoyingly the Gravelord Sword Dance miracle that makes red spikes burst from the ground that are difficult to avoid. He moves and attacks fairly slowly, so the battle shouldn't be too difficult as long as his skeletons aren't a constant harassment.

Once you defeat Nito, the achievement will unlock. Good luck!

Gravelord Sword +5 with strength, dexterity and endurance values around 25 works great too, damage output should be around 450. A fair amount of damage is done when your stamina runs out. Kills the skeletons around him with one hit. Also effective against the other enemies you encounter in your way to the boss fog. Kindle the 2nd bonfire to max if possible.

I managed to beat Nito on my first try on NG. For me he was one of the easier bosses, like Sif and Seath.

Once you acquire the Lordvessel you'll be given the task of filling it with the four souls of the great lords of the world so that you can finally challenge the game's final boss. One of these souls is the soul of the Gravelord Nito.

Nito is located at the very bottom of the Tomb of the Giants area, passing through the Catacombs (and its boss, Pinwheel) along the way.

The Tomb area is almost entirely pitch black, filled with very strong giant enemies but soon after the area's first bonfire you'll find the NPC called Patches the Hyena. Either way you deal with him there will be a drop behind him that houses a very important item, the Skull Lantern, which will light your way through the rest of the tomb.

The door to Nito's tomb is only accessible after acquiring the Lordvessel and the Tomb of the Giants area can be a pain to get out if you don't know what you're doing, so make sure you come prepared.

Check the bosses section for more information on them.

To get to the boss, we must place the Great Chalice on the altar, thus opening up locations that were not previously available to us.

After killing the boss Whirlwind, and having received the Rite of Combustion prize, we go to the Crypt of Giants. The location is dark, be careful and watch your step where you are going. Having reached the fire and seeing Patchwork, we jump down where there are 3 items, one of which is the “Skull Lantern” (an item similar to a torch).

Attention, in the same abyss, there are 2 hollow soldiers who will have to be killed in order to complete the storyline of Rhea (the Charms merchant), carefully kill the Soldiers and communicate with her. She thanks us and goes to the Church of the Undead.

After a thorough exploration of the location, we find a way out of this dark location, where our road leads straight to the boss, through a crowd of opponents. The boss is not difficult, but quite dangerous, because at any moment some skeleton can come out and simply kill you. Be careful and careful, we kill the boss and the trophy is ours!

If you enter an arena with a ring of fog and just wait for the boss to approach you, then the skeletons will not aggro at you and you will only have to deal with the boss himself

It will come in handy on NG+ and beyond - we stand at the beginning of the level and wait for Nito to come to us. At this time, 3 small skeletons will arrive first. We kill them with any holy (heavenly upgrade) weapon and they will not rise again. Without them, Nito will be practically helpless and can easily be killed by the same holy weapon in the back and sometimes run away from his magical attack. If you don't run deeper, large skeletons won't appear. If on NG this boss is simple in itself with any style of passing, then this method saved me a lot of nerve cells.

Let me add that Nito really doesn’t like light, which is logical. And if you have a lantern in your hands or a larva on your head, then he will very often carry out ranged attacks. so often that you don’t even have time to get to it Remove everything and fry it with fire, to which it is very vulnerable.
