How to unlock the Covenant: Warrior of Sunlight achievement in Dark Souls - Definitive Guide

*UPDATED TO REFLECT CHANGES FROM THE NEW PATCH!

Achievement description- Covenant: Warrior of Sunlight

To get this achievement, you need to join the covenant of sunlight. To do this, you have to have at least 25 points in the faith stat.
Or there is also a catch. If you are lucky enough to have played in multiplayer enough times, you can also reach above 25 quite easily. Every time you are the client in multiplayer, you will gain 5 points toward the 25 required to join the covenant. For example, if your faith stat is only a 10 but you have been the client in multiplayer 8 times, you can still join the covenant. (10+ (5x3) = 25)
In order to actually find this covenant, there are a few ways. One way is to contact the Warrior of Sunlight Solaire (the guy on the bridge you met in Undead Burg who lets you summon him) with a stat 25 or greater, and he will ask you to join his covenant. You can also encounter him later in the game in Anor Londo.
If for some reason you can't find Volaire, you can go to the Sunlight Altar which is conveniently across the bridge that the Red Dragon is located on. If your HP is high enough, you can make a run for it and pray you don't die getting there. :) Make sure you equip a fire resistant armor too! Once you reach the bonfire inside that castle across the bridge, turn right to go slightly outside and you'll see the altar. If your faith stat is 50 or above, the altar will also allow you to join the covenant. Good luck!

I'm on NG+ and haven't touched Faith at all. I don't currently have hi-speed Internet. I'm thinking of putting this game off for a while until I can use the summon method, or I'm going to have to invest way, way more than I normally would into Faith.

Wait, so you actually have to join this covenant to get the achievement?

I got the other achievements just by asking to enter, before selecting yes or no... just wondering... I'm standing still, waiting for someone to summon me.

Cannot join the covenant directly through Solaire at Anor Londo.

You can still pray at the altar even if he's dead.

You don't actually need to join the covenant - it's enough to pray at the altar, and choose "enter the covenant" once the restrictions are met. Then, the achievement will pop, and you can chose No.

This does not work if you talk to Solaire, though. You need to be at the altar.

Ok so if Solaire is gone then should I pray at the altar? Because I found him hollowed after I beat Bed of Chaos and I had to kill him. So he is no longer alive. Am I screwed?

Just so you know, the faith/ multiplayer match requirements have been reduced to 25 instead of 50.

After seeing the first comment: So I do not have to join to get the achievements, but do I still need the faith requirement for the achievement?

I think you've got a typo with your numbers- according to your example, you'd need to be summoned and complete a boss battle 3 times, not 8.

If I could make any suggestion for players looking to get into this covenant ASAP who don't eventually plan on putting points in Faith, it would be to start dropping your summon sign frequently (with the white sign soapstone obtained from your first encounter with Solaire- answer him YES). Ideally closer to bosses. Just remember that you can only have one summon sign out at once and you can't leave the zone you're in or it will disappear. This was the last covenant I joined and it was because I didn't do my research early enough. When I finally started trying to get summoned, I was around level 110 and I had a heck of a time finding anyone to summon me. I tried putting my sign near Ornstein and Smough, the Four Kings, Seathe, and Gwyn, but got literally zero action for quite a while. I eventually raised my Faith to 20 and FINALLY got summoned at the Kiln of the First Flame and helped a guy defeat Gwyn. I was then given the option to pray at the altar of the sun and join the covenant. Remember- you'll need 10 Sunlight Medals to get the Great Lightning Spear miracle from this covenant, so getting summoned and surviving boss battles will help insure you have then 10 you need (also always try to keep Solaire alive when you summon him to a boss battle- you'll get one this way, too).

I'd also suggest keeping your first Gwyn soul to offer to this Covenant (getting you the Sunlight Spear miracle) rather than creating the Great Lord Greatsword. You can't get all the rare weapons until playthrough 3 anyway, so you might as well use your playthrough 2 Gwyn soul to make the weapon so you can knock out the Miracles achievement in playthrough 2.

This covenant is located in the Undead Parish across the long bridge with the Hellkite Dragon towering over top of it. It's completely possible to avoid fighting the Hellkite Dragon if you have throwing knives or a bow by positioning yourself at the stairs in the middle of the bridge, hitting it once with a range weapon then running underneath the dragon as it flies over to land on the bridge.

Since the latest patch you only require a Faith level of 25 to join, but if you're going for the full 100% I'd suggest saving this covenant for the second play through so you can use your skill points for other things than Faith and also work towards the 10 sunlight medals required to get the Sunlight Spear.

Assuming you wait until your second play through (or not) you can use your White Sign Soapstone to drop a summon sign at bonfires where you have defeated bosses. Each time you help someone kill a boss in their world you deplete the requirement of 25 Faith by 5 points, so do this 5-6 times and you can instantly join and unlock the achievement.

I'd suggest looking for people in Blighttown at a SL of 90 and drop your summon sign at the bonfire before the boss.

Hope this helps!

To get this as early as possible, either get the 25Faith or help people with Taurus Demon, then climb the ladder up to the bridge, walk up the stairs. then the next set of stairs to the op, then run around to the other side of the stairs in the cubby then peak your head out, hit the dragon with an arrow, then as he aggros and jumps down, make a full sprint towards the gate behind him(while he's busy flying down). This is also a faster way to the church and you won't have to put up with those annoying rats! Take note once you get in there the Hellkite will fly off and doesn't return until you leave the area and return.
I was able to get this achievement at Soul Level 7-10-ish by just helping people with Taurus.

This covenant is the NPC's Solaire of Astoria guild and it focuses on co-op online play.

How to Join:
You join this covenant by praying to the Sunlight Altar in Undead Parish, right next to the bonfire, under the place where the Red Dragon sits. To join it you have two options: Having a 50 Faith stat in your character or by helping other people cooperatively online. NOTE: After patch 1.05 was released the requirement to join this covenant has been decreased from 50 faith to 25!

While the '50 faith' requirement stays active, every time you place your summon sign and help another player beat the area's boss that requirement is lowered by 5 points. This way, if you help people kill an area boss 5 times your faith requirement to join will become 25 faith (5 times 5). If you help 8 people beat bosses you'll need only 10 faith to join and so on.

If you have met the requirements, pray to the altar and you'll be given the option to join the covenant. If you have met the requirements for joining this covenant once it will remain active forever, throughout your new games, so you can join this covenant as soon as you reach the sunlight altar in NG+.

Offline Method: You will need a 50 faith stat no matter what. (25 if you download patch 1.05!)

Rewards for Joining/Ranking Up:
Upon joining the player will be awarded with the miracle Lightning Spear and a new gesture. To rank up inside the covenant you have to offer Sunlight Medals to the altar.

Every time you or someone in the group helps the host beat the area's boss everyone in that group will be rewarded with a Sunlight Medal. This means that even if you are not in the covenant and summon someone who is to help you, everyone in the group gets a medal by the end of the area, including you.

Offline Method:

  • You can find 3 of these in a chest in Anor Londo. It is in room right across the hallway from the third bonfire of the area, guarded by a single Silver Knight.
  • You receive 1 of these as a reward from Knight Lautrec of Carim in Firelink Shrine after you free him from his cell in the Undead Parish church.
  • In the same way the online method works when you summon a phantom from this covenant, whenever you summon the NPC Solaire Of Astora before a boss fight and proceed to beat it with his help you will be awarded a medal.

Covenant Ranks:

  • Offering 10 Sunlight Medals upgrade you to rank+1. You are rewarded with the miracle Great Lightning Spear and also gain the ability to offer the game's final boss soul in exchange of yet another miracle, the Sunlight Spear. This is required for the miracles trophy.
  • Offering 30 Sunlight Medals upgrade you to rank+2 but gives no reward.
  • Offering 80 Sunlight Medals upgrade you to rank+3 but gives no reward.

Other Notes:
A member of this covenant appears as a golden phantom when summoned to a player world (instead of the regular white-ish color). Summon signs on the floor also change to a golden color. As mentioned, when you beat an area boss being part of the covenant everyone in the game receives a Sunlight Medal upon completion. Players of this covenant get matched up with other ones from the same covenant more easily.
