How to unlock the Prayer of a Maiden achievement in Dark Souls - Definitive Guide

This solution will contain spoilers! Be warned now! Tuuuuuurn away unless you don't care!

...are you still with me? Excellent!

The purpose of this guide is to help you acquire all 23 unique miracles in Dark Souls. Some can be bought, others found, and some are even awarded to you by completing certain tasks....

I will list every miracle and where it can be found. More in depth information will follow.

01 (DROP - Duke's Archives) Bountiful Sunlight
02 (DROP - Duke's Archives) Soothing Sunlight

These two miracles are very close to each other. In the Duke's Archives, you will be rudely transported to a large, tall room with a winding staircase. Simply get to the bottom of the room, and you will find a large jail cell with a whole lot of Pisacas guarding it (They look like seafood). As you clear this room out, you may notice the sound of women weeping softly. There are two Pisaca very near the cell that have their backs turned to you. Shuffle them off this mortal coil, and they "thank" you by dropping these miracles.
Don't feel bad about it. If I was transformed into that, I would want to die too :)

03 (LOOT - Ash Lake) Reinforced Magic Barrier / Great Magic Barrier (Same thing, name may differ)

To find this one, make your way to Ash Lake. If you need help finding it, consult this guide:
Dark SoulsSecret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Dark Souls worth 55 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

Now that you are in Ash Lake, continue down the sand dunes until you reach another tree that you can enter (That is not the Great Hollows). Look for a root that curves around the tree on the outside and walk along it. Keep your eyes peeled for a ledge below your feet. Once you find it, carefully hop down and the miracle is at the end of the tunnel.

04 (LOOT - Anor Londo) Sunlight Blade

This miracle can be found after defeating the covenant boss Gwyndolin
Dark SoulsSecret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Dark Souls worth 59 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

Be aware that should you engage Gwyndolin, you CANNOT access his covenant anymore. Farther down this guide I will go into detail as to why this is important.

05 (LOOT - Catacombs) Tranquil Walk of Peace

This one is a bit tricky to find. Go through the catacombs until you activate the switch to flip the first spiked bridge. Cross it, and at the end you can roll off to the right side, landing on a patch of land right below. Follow this until you get to a ladder. Climb the ladder and you may find an NPC called Patches next to another switch.
If you let Patches live, he will try to kill you as you cross the bridge that switch activates. Just run across if you want him to live.
Once you get past all that, get to the bottom of this room, and you will see a rather crappy masonry job. Smash it with your weapon to reveal a dark room with 2 skeleton melee, and 2 skeleton archers. Clear that rubbish out and follow the corridor until you get to a necromancer. Kill him and look to your right. You will see a ladder in the wall. Climb up it to find a corpse with this miracle.
While you are in the area, the Darkmoon Seance ring is also found here, just before the necromancer. This is needed to join the Darkmoon covenant, which in turn is necessary for this achievement.

06 (LOOT - Painted World of Ariamas) Vow of Silence

You must get the annex key in the painted world. It is underground with all the wheel skeletons. You will have to go through a few illusory walls, but keep looking and you'll find it with little trouble.
Once you have the key, make your way to the courtyard and head to the building ahead of you on the right side (assuming you are facing the direction of Priscilla). You will be in a church and a locked door is behind the pulpit. Go through, and once you finish climbing the stairs, take an immediate left and head up. You will climb another set of stairs being guarded by the world's biggest, angriest zit. Get past him and do watch for the giant hole in the roof. The miracle is being guarded by a total of four crows. Lure them to you; do NOT try to take on all four at once unless you are either insane or skilled.

07 (COVENANT - Catacombs) Gravelord Sword Dance
08 (COVENANT - Catacombs) Gravelord Greatsword Dance

I would advise against going for these two miracles until you have at least 11 eyes of death (You need 1 to access Nito's covenant). The frogs in the Depths drop them if you need to farm. In addition, the eyes are scattered about as loot around the world. You can also earn these through the PVP objectives within the covenant.
Here is how to find the Gravelord Covenant:
Dark SoulsCovenant: Gravelord ServantThe Covenant: Gravelord Servant achievement in Dark Souls worth 57 pointsDiscover Gravelord Servant covenant.

At rank 0, you are given the Gravelord Sword Miracle
At rank 1 (10 eyes of death), you are given the Gravelord Greatsword Miracle.

09 (COVENANT - Anor Londo) Darkmoon Blade

Instead of killing Gwyndolin, you need to join his covenant and surrender 10 souvenir of reprisals. You can get 1 by avenging the fire keeper (Invade Lautrec's world and kill him), and 1 through trading the pendant to Sparkly (crow at Undead Asylum). You can farm these off of the crows in the Painted World as well. Remember where the miracle in the Painted World is? Excellent place to farm right there :) The drop rate is horrid, warning you now. You can also earn them by killing players in the book of sin (use the Darkmoon item to hunt a guilty player), but the drop rate isn't 100% there either.

At rank 1 (10 SoR), you get Darkmoon Blade.

10 (COVENANT - Undead Parish) Lightning Spear
11 (COVENANT - Undead Parish) Great Lightning Spear
12 (COVENANT - Undead Parish) Sunlight Spear

This covenant is found at an altar on the other end of the bridge the red drake is guarding in the Undead Burg.
To join this covenant, you need to put a bit of commitment in. Either get your Faith to 25, or assist a player as a phantom in killing a boss. Each time you help kill a boss, your faith requirement is reduced by 5. Kill 2 bosses as a friendly phantom, and you only need 15 faith.
In addition, you will need 10 sunlight medals AND the soul of Gwyn the Firelord. You can earn the medals by summoning Solaire to help with various fights in the game (he must survive). You can also earn one by saving Lautrec from the prison cell in the Undead Parish. There's a chest by the 2nd bonfire in Anor Londo that has 3.

At rank 0, you get Lightning Spear
At rank 1 (10 medals) you get Great Lightning Spear
At rank 1 (Soul of Gwyn) you get Sunlight Spear

13 (REWARD - Firelink Shrine) Emit Force

Find Seigmeyer of Catalina outside of Sen's Fortress before the doors open. Speak with him until all dialogue is exhausted.
When you go through Sen's Fortress later, Seigmeyer is outside near where you see your first boulder. Jump down to him, and listen to him lament about the boulders. Afterwards, change the boulder trap's direction to elsewhere (it's a large mechanism. Cannot miss it).
In Anor Londo, you will find Seigmeyer again. To reach him, go through the castle until you climb a small set of winding steps. You will be on a rooftop, and there will be a silver knight immediately in front of you. Kill him and go down the flight of steps he guards. Talk to Seigmeyer and listen to him cry about the silver knights in the next room. Clear the room out and talk to him again for a reward.
Head back to Firelink Shrine and talk to Seigmeyer by the bonfire. Answer "Yes" to his question. You will be given the miracle.

14 (REWARD - Tomb of the Giants) Replenishment

All the following NPCs can be found at Firelink Shrine. Petrus is a rather large cleric who gives you the option to join Covenant of White. Rhea, Vance and Nico will appear by Petrus later in the story. Speak with all of them until all dialogue is exhausted. This will trigger them to leave when you do.

After Rhea, Vance, Nico and Petrus leave to go to the Catacombs, leave and come back a few times (throwing yourself off the cliff at Firelink works nicely) until Petrus returns. If you want to use Rhea as a shop later, I would strongly recommend killing Petrus AFTER he returns. If you kill him before Rhea is at Firelink, she and her two guards will go hostile.
The reason I say this is because Petrus really, REALLY hates Rhea. So much he will attempt to kill her if she ever leaves the tomb. That sucks. We don't want that to happen. Take no chances, and just kill him.
Of course, if you need miracles before hand, he will sell you a few... at much higher rates than Rhea does. He doesn't have them all though, so mentioning his inventory is redundant here.

You can find Rhea in Tomb of the Giants, in the pit that Patches throws you down. If you killed him, the pit is by the first bonfire in TotGiants. Climb the ladder and head left. If you look down you will see 3 souls. Rhea is down there along with her bodyguards. Once you kill her (hollowed) guards, talk to her and she thanks you by giving this miracle to you.

15 (PURCHASE 1000 - Rhea) Heal
16 (PURCHASE 10000 - Rhea) Great Heal
17 (PURCHASE 2000 - Rhea) Great Heal Excerpt
18 (PURCHASE 1000 - Rhea) Homeward
19 (PURCHASE 1000 - Rhea) Force
20 (PURCHASE 10000 - Rhea) Wrath of the Gods
21 (PURCHASE 500 - Rhea) Seek Guidance
22 (PURCHASE 6000 - Rhea) Magic Barrier

Once you have helped Rhea in Tomb of the Giants and have killed Nito, Rhea will leave for the undead parish. She will be praying at the same place you found your first Fire Keeper Soul.

*IMPORTANT*
If Petrus is still alive, warp from Nito's room to Firelink, then use the elevator shortcut to talk to her. Straying from seeing her right away usually ends in her dead otherwise (Thanks Petrus! You're the best!).

****Feb 29th Edit****
I myself have not confirmed this, but according to kungfucolin:
"To purchase the Miracles from Rhea, you don't need to kill Nito, you just need to have rescued her from the hollow clerics. I confirmed this not 5 minutes ago :)"
************************

23 (PURCHASE 40000 - Oswald) Karmic Justice

This cocky looking guy can be found at the base of the of the first bell tower, past the gargoyle tag team. You must ring the first bell for him to appear.

Wow this was lengthy. Feedback, lemme know! I used the official guide for references here and there (Prices, Seigmeyer, making sure I got all the miracles, a couple of factions). The rest was run off of personal experience.

Edited for even more text, clarification, typos, and errors corrected. Nonsensical sentences stay however because I like cheese.

Not sure how much of this you took from other sources but This may actually be the best organized solution Ive ever seen on this site that isnt a full guide. I made a solution but Im actually gonna delete it now so I can thumbs up this. I would've gone into more detail on mine but I got sidetracked by the damned Batman! =D

Thanks for putting all this info in one place so its easily accessible.

Also, as of 1.05, the drop rate for the Souvenirs of Reprisal off of the crow/harpy things in the painted world is very good. I got my 10 in less than 2 hours with the Gold Serpent Ring and 0 humanity.

Is that part of the patch notes? Maybe you just got lucky :)
Regardless I think I will leave it as is so folks can expect the worst, and possibly come out pleasantly surprised.

Wish I could help you on that. I know that I got the miracle at rank 1. I don't see why you didn't though. Perhaps double check your miracle inventory?

One question about this, and actually the question works for the other achievements as well (all weapons/spells/etc): Can your complete collection of miracles be compiled over multiple playthroughs? Like if I got every single miracle besides 1 with one character, then started a new character and got the one I was missing, would the achievement pop? Or does all of the collecting have to be done across multiple playthroughs with the same character? I would be very happy if someone knows the answer, I'd much rather try and complete my nearly finished list with a totally new character than on New Game + + ...

Oops didn't see Carlos' comment, can anyone confirm or deny if it can be on multiple characters?

By LookItsPineappl on 09 Jan 2012 02:11
I cannot confirm the theory, but is there any reason why you wouldn't want to just knock out the miracle in NG++? It is not that much more difficult than NG+, plus you need a partial NG++ for the weapon achievement.

That information is 100% incorrect. It will drop, but you do have to be in the covenant to use them.

I just tested what kungfucolin claimed and they are correct. I saved Rhea, immediately warped to the Firelink Shrine from the Bonfire and ran to the Undead Parish and she was in fact there without Nico being fought.

Regarding the Gravelord Covenant, I managed to get this with just 10 Eyes of Death (7 from NG run finding all the fixed location Eyes and 3 from NG+ behind the titanite demon near the entrance to the covenant). Entering the covenant did not use up any Eyes for me. If I'd read this guide prior to completing NG, I would've bought an Eye from Patches to be sure (as the next fixed location Eyes are in the Tomb of Giants and would've required backtracking).

Just thought I'd add my own experiences, I didn't need to collect all of the prayers again in NG++ when the achievement unlocked I had just bought all of the prayers from Rhea and that I had 20/23 prayers collected on the same playthrough, the ones I hadn't got were Vow of Silence from the Painted World Of Ariamis and Bountiful/Soothing Sunlight from Duke's Archives. Maybe you only have to collect the prayers you can purchase and the ones related to the covenants in one playthrough, but this is just pure speculation. Also thank you for the great guide.

Can confirm that in order to unlock this achievement, you need ALL miracles on one character. This includes all those available through covenants, purchasable miracles and those you find within the world. The achievement will not unlock if you collect some on one character and collect the rest on a second.

You cannot join the covenant unless you have the required Faith. Simply helping folks as a friendly blue phantom lowers the req by 5. If you can join the covenant then you don't need to worry about it :-)

Miracles needing a certain amount of Faith are not affected. You don't need to be able to use the miracle for it to count towards the achievement. If this still is not clear send me a PM

Another question: Dark-Souls-wiki tells that Bountiful Sunlight and Soothing Sunlight become available after joining the Princess Guard covenant. Do I have to be in that covenant when killing the Pisacas or do I just have to have discovered that covenant for them to drop?

By MosesChristus on 22 Nov 2011 11:47
Just so you know, with the new update, you only need 25 faith instead of 50 for the lightning spears. So you need less multiplayer matches.

Well only because the miracles I have left the Darkmoon Blade and the Gravelord Greatsword Dance, and killing the 4 Kings on NG++ is proving incredibly difficult (not to mention a total lack of people near my level who want to co-op it). And for the weapons all I need now is the Dark Hand you get from joining the Darkwraiths, but again I have to kill the 4 Kings. On my first playthough I could take them down all by myself without too much hassle, but it seems nearly impossible now. So yeah, if I could just get those 2 miracles and that 1 weapon with my alt character, I could finish off this game tonight with 1000/1000, if not it's going to take me a lot longer.

There are 23 different Miracles to learn. While it is possible to complete the relative task early in Cycle 2, it is not recommended to do if you wish to cut excessive game play time, as short as just a little bit to venture into Cycle 3, for attaining all Dark Souls' Trophies/Achievements.

This is because you require the Dark Lord's Soul two times, and the effort of events for being able to offer that Soul at the Sunlight Altar early in a Cycle, are relatively minimalistic compared to those necessary for relative weapon modification by using that Soul. If you agree with that, you shall let that relative weapon being created in your initial Cycle in Lordran. Lastly, offer the next acquired Dark Lord's Soul to the Sunlight Altar to obtain a one of a kind Miracle.

You will require only 10 Sunlight Medals to achieve Rank +1 of this Covenant which one you will discover there. The ultimate strategy to work on this is, to be in this Covenant and let yourself being summoned as a Golden Phantom for standing aside in battles of fellow lost Undead Humans - when a Boss is defeated under this condition, all Players will be rewarded with one Sunlight Medal. Also, the eight standard Chaos Bugs can drop Sunlight Medals. Sunlight Medals are also positive for being available for pick-up when a Player drops any. I have about 150+ spare Sunlight Medals - and I kept my Character's Soul Level at 50. I can eventually spare some, because I do not require that many, but you must eventually complete some assists anyway, hence this decreases the required value of Faith related to be able to complete this particular task for obtaining the relative Miracle. To maximize efficiency of your investment on Sunlight Medals, you shall only ever offer ten Sunlight Medals to the Sunlight Altar if you have the Dark Lord's Soul and you intend to offer this one in the same Covenant progression. That way, you will acquire two different Miracles during the same event. Please note that there are three Miracles to obtain from the relative Covenant, not two.

The other 20 different Miracles are surely obtained by you during your initial Cycle, if you make the right choices at the right moments during game play. Please consult the Dark Souls Wiki to get relative very important information, before you continue to progress further in your adventure. If you failed in any of those relative tasks to positively affect the game play for the required outcomes to be achieved during your initial Cycle, do not feel pity, because you can do it right during Cycle 2 for sure, as you anyway want to achieve all records for this excellent title.

Miracles can either be purchased from certain NPCs, looted around the world or given as a reward by ranking up certain covenants. Since one of them require the soul of the game's last boss you'll only be able to unlock this trophy early in New Game+. Below I will list where to get each miracle and how to get the NPCs to sell them to you. Big thanks to Blood_Runs_Cold for compiling most of the information in here!

If you want, you can use the printable checklist from HERE made by Birr1978 to help you keep track of what you have.

--Miracles Acquired by Looting/Rewarded--

Sunlight Blade:
In a chest after defeating Gwyndolin. Check the "Defeat the Dark Sun Gwyndolin" for more information on how to reach it.

Soothing Sunlight:
Duke's Archives. Dropped by the enemy Pisaca, the slime/medusa-like enemies that guard the cell where Big Hat Logan is. Only usable when part of the Princess's Guard covenant.

Bountiful Sunlight:
Duke's Archives. Dropped by the enemy Pisaca, the slime/medusa-like enemies that guard the cell where Big Hat Logan is. Only usable when part of the Princess's Guard covenant.

Great Magic Barrier:
Ash Lake. You'll find a large tree with a branch going around it. Walk through it a bit until you can spot a branch below you with a hole in it. Drop inside it and follow the path to the miracle.

Tranquil Walk of Peace:
Found on a corpse in the Catacombs: Upper floor. There will be a small room with a ladder. There is nothing in this room but the miracle.

Vow Of Silence:
Painted World of Ariamis. On top of the tower you use the Annex Key to unlock. It is guarded by some harpies.

Emit Force:
Reward for helping Siegmeyer of Catarina, the "Onion Guy". After helping him out in Sen's Fortress talk to him in the Firelink Shrine and tell him you were the one who helped him and he gives you this miracle.

--Miracles Acquired by Ranking Up/Joining Covenants--

Gravelord Sword Dance:
You'll be rewarded with this miracle by joining the Gravelord Servant covenant. Check the covenants section for more information.

Gravelord Greatsword Dance:
Gaining rank +1 in the Gravelord Servant covenant will give you this miracle. Eyes of Death level up this covenant. Check the covenants section for more information.

Darkmoon Blade:
Reward for getting to rank +1 in the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant. Souvenirs of Reprisal level up this covenant. Check the covenants section for more information.

Lightning Spear:
This miracle is rewarded upon joining the Warrior of Sunlight covenant. Check the covenants section for more information.

Great Lightning Spear:
This miracle is rewarded by ranking up the Warrior of Sunlight covenant to rank +1. Check the covenants section for more information.

Sunlight Spear:
In order to get this miracle you'll have first to defeat the last boss of the game and get his soul. Then, in New Game+ you need to rank up the Warrior of Sunlight covenant to rank +1, which will enable you to offer Gwyn's soul in exchange for the miracle.

--Miracles Acquired by Purchasing--

--Petrus of Thorolund--
Petrus can be found as soon as you get to Firelink Shrine, in the direction of the crow, to the right. Buy all of his miracles when you can because he doesn't stay there forever. If you miss him you can still buy all of his miracles through Rhea of Thorolund.

Heal:
Petrus of Thorolund or Rhea. Cost: 4,000 souls with Petrus; 1,000 souls with Rhea.

Great Heal Excerpt:
Petrus of Thorolund or Rhea. Cost: 10,000 souls with Petrus; 2,000 souls with Rhea.

Homeward:
Petrus of Thorolund or Rhea. Cost: 8,000 souls with Petrus; 1,000 souls with Rhea.

Force:
