How to unlock the Gnomad achievement in Darksiders II - Definitive Guide

Gnomes: Find all 4 to get the GnoMAD Scythes (legendary weapon)

Gnome #1:

Area: City of the Dead – Fourth Floor
Instructions:

At the northwest balcony, look for a hidden passage. You’ll find it behind a turning ledge that you can grab onto.
Open the door with the switch first, then turn around and jump onto the post, then jump to the wall and wall run left. Return to the hand holds, and use Death’s split soul to get off the nearby pressure plate, exposing a secret room.

Gnome #2:

Area: Ivory Citadel – Second Floor
Instructions:
After purifying the pool on top of the westernmost tower, return to the northern passage that was previously covered in ooze on the second floor.
To get back to the tower’s top floor, follow the aquaduct and climb the wall, but don’t leave through the door. Instead, drop down to the balcony below and climb back up to the top of the tower.

Gnome #3:

Area: The Weeping Crag – Third Floor
Instructions:
To find a secret area, you’ll run into a pressure plate / rising platform puzzle in the third floor of The Weeping Crag.
Past the platform is a portal. Open it, then turn east and use the stairs, turning north and looking up at the ceiling for another portal to open. Activate it, then return to the previous portal — the two portals should now be linked, and you’ll fall out of the ceiling portal into a secret room.
Inside the treasury, dive around the northern waters for a secret underwater tunnel.

** Alt method before obtaining Voidwalker please review second video.

Gnome #4:

Area: The Black Stone – First Floor (Present)
Instructions:
Wait until after you’ve unlocked the door in the past. When you return to the Great Foyer, check the northern ridge for hand holds. Descend the ledges, and return to the present through the portal.
Now in the present, climb back up using the hand holds to the north and go through the now open westernmost door. The gnome is located deeper down the hall.

The GnoMAD Scythes are sent to your offline drop box at a Serpent Tome, as soon as you claim them, the achievement pops.

yea I've seen reference to obtaining it early on a couple other sites as well. I'll link a video if people are interested in going for it early.

I got the 4 gnomes as well, but NO achievements. I got gnomes in a different order. Maybe that was the problem. :(

If you've got the four gnomes, that's not enough - you need to claim the scythes by visiting a Serpent's tomb and checking your mail.

Also, just in case anyone makes the same mistake I did and grabs the scythes from the mail, gets the achievement then quits before the game does a full save: You'll find you no longer have the quest complete, but you'll have the scythes in your inventory with no way to complete the quest.

If this happens, do what I did: Find a vendor, sell the GnoMAD scythes to them and then immediately leave the vendor. The "acquisition" screen with re-appear explaining what the scythes do and the quest will mark complete. Otherwise you probably won't be able to complete the "All side missions" achievement.

Damn these scythes are terrible. Anyone have any luck with them kicking ass? Theyre far inferior to my possessed weapons.

Regardless, excellent guide. Up that vote!

I experienced a glitch where I collected all four gnomes but did not receive a message at the serpent tome to receive the sytche. I decided to retry this on my apocalythic playthrough. If anyone has any advice on how to not experience this glitch again or a work around if I do get glitched again would be greatly appreciated.

I got Gnome #3 before the Gnome #2 without the Portal Thing... ;) Simply position you below the broken Stairs and jump from Wall to Wall, look that you get over the Part that looks out of the broken Stairs and then let you Fall exactly there while using the Deathgrip towards the Stairs, you land on the Stairs and can loot the treasure Room and get the Gnome Underwater, i found the Gnome myself because i searched Stuff under Water. There are many other such Glitches that allows you to get to places where you can't normally without special Items and i even found some where you can't enter normally but i was able to, dunno what these Places are for normally but there i found Chests in some but no Portal or anything, but i used the almost same technique to enter all these Places, if you don't have to Walls you need to be bit creative to reach High but works... ;)

There are four small garden gnomes that are very well hidden throughout game. One is located in each of the four different realms. After you find all four you will be notified that someone named GnoMAD has sent you a tome.

Head over to any Serpent Tome and retrieve the tome, which contains the GnoMAD Scythes—designed as a pair undead garden gnomes—along with a quirky message from GnoMAD. After you take the scythes the trophy will unlock, so be sure to remove them from the tome to get it.

There locations and the order you can get them are:

  1. City of the Dead (4th Floor)
  2. Ivory Citadel (2nd Floor)
  3. The Weeping Crag(3rd Floor)
  4. The Black Stone (1st Floor/Present)

The video below shows you how to collect all four:

Additional task. Given as soon as you find 1 of 4 gnomes. These gnomes are hidden in such a way that you can’t figure it out without a glass, you would have missed it yourself if you hadn’t accidentally stumbled upon the 2nd gnome who is shown in the video; before you get it, according to the plot, you will need to clear the water from damage and only then go after it. After you collect all 4, go to the Serpentine Phaleant , indicated by the green dragon on the map, and take the gift from it, GnomaD Scythes and the trophy will open.
