April 4th, 2017 - If it wasn't clear in the update history of this thread, this is not obtainable and hasn't been since 2016 , it has been flagged as discontinued by TA as well. Sorry all.
Dec 20th, 2016 - THQNordic has responded through Twitter saying fixing the trophy for the PS3 version isn't something they can do. We can only assume they have no plans to fix the achievement for Xbox 360 either. https://twitter.com/ElMegalomator/status/799252382509105152 .If you wish to continue the fight I encourage you to post on their social media and forums.

Update, finally, from Megalomaniac -
Your first opportunity to unlock is fairly close to the beginning of the game.
On your way to meet Alya at the Tri-Stone you'll come across a Serpent Tome, it's basically an offline/online drop box of sorts. Accessing the online portion of it requires you to have redeemed your Crucible Pass Code which comes free with all new games or can be purchased additionally for 800 MSP.
With the online drop open, select someone from your friends list who also has the game and has activated their Pass, then gift them an item from your inventory.
Soon as you send it off, achievement unlocked :)
**Comments are indicating you can also obtain this by sending an item to backup account.
**I can't confirm myself but HappyG01 mentions this can be done by sending to a Silver account.

Please stay calm about this. This is not in our fault! The achievement is dependent on the online environment from THQ. We also acquired this but unfortunately Microsoft changed in June some security certificates and while we are working with Microsoft since August (it took 1,5 months to figure out its not the actual online environment) on this issue we are totally dependent on their help about it.

Yea the Crucible is a horde arena kinda as well leaderboards are unlocked when you activate your code. I don't really agree with it, but it is what it is

So you're at the tome, click over to the Xbox LIVE inbox and when you go to "add gift" it gives you an error or when you've already selected a friends name with the game and online pass? Try flat out turning content controls off and maybe a cache clear of the game in your memory settings.

I can confirm myself this can be done by sending to a Silver account. I did this and i have a silver live account and so does the person i sent it to. offline no, silver and gold accounts yes.

I don't know why but when pressing RB to Xbox LIVE inbox it always shows "An error occurred when retrieveing mail. Please try again later". I'm on Silver membership. I don't have a friend on my friend list yet but I've already set the Xbox Privacy setting to allow text messages. Is this an Internet connection problem, no friend problem, or membership problem?

I've been trying the whole of yesterday and today, and I can't for the life of me get this thing to work D: It keeps coming up with a "Retrieve Error" every time I try accessing the Xbox Live Inbox through ANY of the Serpent Tomes. Have the online features been disabled or something? =\

@Sambaweb, same here, I've been looking up pretty much every Darksiders 2 forum even slightly related to the issue and haven't had any luck so far. According to the "Recent Winners" section on this page, the last gamers to unlock the achievement did so back on June 29th. Kinda wish I went for this when I did my Bean Dive. I've done this achievement before on a previous Gamertag, so I know how it's done, but for some reason it just won't work now D:

About the pay it forward achievement issue:

On Oct 17 2015, this achievement unlocked for me hence the comment above is valid. After so many try at the Tome saying "error", it finally worked and i gifted a friend i know who just started the game a lvl 22 item

I just got a message back from ARMaximus saying "I don't think there was anything special, it just worked fine for me, however I tried it this morning and I got a "Connection Timed Out" message window, they must have done something, hopefully a temporary server down/network issue".

It's unobtainable for the foreseeable future after reading THQNordic's tweet linked above. They don't seem to have the want / will to fix it. Sorry everyone. The flag for this achievement already reflects it as well. I'd suggest if you want to continue the fight to engage them directly through social media and their forums.

It looks like THQ Nordic might be actively responding to complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I am not certain how the BBB would handle something like this though. I do however know that people have filed complaints on video games for similar reasons in the past. This might be an option to consider, as people are posting everywhere with no response from THQ Nordic. The link to their BBB page is as follows:

So, unless I'm mistaken, there's no warning in the BFA solutions as well nor in the walkthrough. I just finished the game and would like confirmation if there is or isnt a way to unlock BFA because of this one achievement Pay It Forward. After playing this game for so many hours it would be nice to know before uninstalling it.

Well there might not be a warning in the solution but the achievement and the game is marked with discontinued achievements.
As far as i know it hasnt been fixed. So yeah, you cant get BFA if you cant get Pay It Forward

If you check my profile you'll see that I just completed all the achievements that are, with 100% certainty, possible as of Sep 2017. That is, all but Pay It Forward (and therefore BFA). The person isn't a registered user and could've been added to track at any time. It's most likely a glitch stemming from someone adding them to be tracked. The server is still down as I said a few days ago.

I'm not sure how this was done but as an example a Call of Duty World at War modder can pop any achievement in any order including campaign in a MP or Zombie match all Online. Basically I'm saying where there's a will there's a way. I'm not saying kole 100% cheated it but I will say it is highly unlikely he is the golden goose able to get into a closed server .

I've asked the guy through PM and he answered: "Hello, received not long ago this achievement, like everything worked." The thing is, I have the game installed and ready to go (call it fool's hope if you wish) and with a save right by the Serpent's Statue. So it was easy to check today if it was fixed and working again... and it is NOT. At least not for me. So, yeah, either the guy cheated or for some mysterious reason the game decided to work just for him. I'm kinda torn about reporting him for that team who checks out that sort of cheating since I don't care about ratio and badges that much anymore and after all it's just entertainment and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I keep trying to connect to the servers through the BC version on Xbox One, thanks to my save right next to the serpent's tome. And I keep having the same annoying error message. Did anyone try the same thing with the game installed on Xbox 360 hard drive and the disc version, to see if we can trick the servers?

In the unlikely event that THQ ever gets serious about making this achievement available again, my recommendation is rather then bring the servers online again perhaps they could change the requirement for the achievement in a patch to something that can be done offline.

I know of precisely one example of an achievement being changed in "Destiny 2". Obviously this was on the Xbox One, so I don't know if the 360 would have more issues in changing it or not.

So, newb question, but, when I go to the Serpent Tome in Tri-Stone and RB to get to the online menu it has the option below to "Add Gift..." just below although I cannot select it. I have tried every input including D-pad, all the letter buttons, back, start, triggers, etc. What am I doing wrong? I have the GoD version and have not been prompted for a Crucible pass or anything. Thanks!

Out of those two, one has the achievements out of order, while the other has the achievement for unlocking everything while only having completed half of the achievements. Something seems fishy.
On another note, I've tried registering on Nordic Games' forums to ask about the issue, but I never received the confirmation e-mail, so I could never actually post there. I also tried contacting @ElMegalomator on twitter as he seemed to be very helpful when this achievement broke in 2013, but he never replied. Don't know which other channels to go through atm.

Maybe they'll correct it one day. Maybe the issue is part Microsoft too cause I checked on our Playstation site, truetrophies, and nothing is said about any issue concerning Pay it forward. So the issue is Xbox only. Please continue to write to them and let's hope they'll repair it before no one care about old generation anymore. In the meantime, I will personally complete the game in the exception of those 2 and have an eye on this topic from time to time.

It is definitely not a Microsoft issue, it is (as it has been before when Pay it Forward has had issues) THQNordic's fault that the achievement is unobtainable. As can be seen on TrueTrophies, the person who got the achievement last was on Feb 11th, which actually corresponds with the people who got it last on Xbox, also Feb 11th. It is most likely on that day that the server(s) went down. I started playing Darksiders 2 Feb 16th this year, and I noticed the issue back then. At that point noone had made any comments about any issues here or on other Xbox sites, and I would never have started this game if I knew about the problem.

The reason people are confused is because you never said whether or not it is obtainable. You have several strings of text with strike-through, which I can only imagine is because of updates, but still is confusing. I found this confusing until I read recent comments, and still a little confused.

Well do not know if you noticed but thousands of people have unlocked the achievement during those five years and up until very recently online. If you look at previous above comments, you'll see that I've made comments before on a similar topic regarding discontinued achievement on another game so I am very aware of this. Also to put it out of your misery, I will start this at some point knowing this won't be fixed because I know realistically that discontinued achievements are just inevitable. Have a good day sir! Also my comments were made like 10 months ago and people on here are still whining or having "hope" on things that will never ever be fixed if it means donating $5 to the poor.

I hate it when these dumbasses come into a thread, and tell people to stop griping about 1 achievement for 10gs! It's not about the points!!! If people were simply focused on raising their score to the moon... they would play EVERYTHING that was free, that yielded points! It's about getting a 100% completion... a fairly good feeling, that you completed all the objectives in a game. Not everyone can play a game when it first comes out, or even necessarily has the time to pound-out all the achievements as soon as they can!
The point is... it's ONLY 10 points, and Microshaft could simply work with the developers, to have the game programmed to unlock these achievements automatically, when someone starts playing the game - whether they played it on day-one, or is just now starting it. It isn't like 10 or 20 points given away, is going to alter the balance of gamerscore leader boards. Besides... if everyone on Xbox who never played it, did... it isn't like gamerscore leaderboards would topple because of it!
I haven't played this (even though I own a digital copy), but if I could trade the points from a partially played game I have (there are QUITE A FEW that have closed server issues) to get these two unobtainable achievements... I would do it in a heartbeat (not to mention get rid of a game I can't 100%)!!

The servers for this game have always been bad but in February 2016, they were closed without warning so this trophy is now no longer possible. This only affects the PS3 version since the PS4 release has no online trophies.
