How to unlock the Soul Crushing achievement in Darksiders II - Definitive Guide

The End-Boss of the 2. Realm "Kingdom of the Dead", located in the "City of the dead" is very easy, but to be save fast travel back to Ostegoth (he is at the Ethernal Throne) and buy a few health potions. You need to doge his attacks a few times, then he will raise his arms, at this point run/role quickly to him

And attack his closed arms - this is the only moment(s) where you can hit him. Do this a few times and go is gone (this will take you about 8 minutes)

After a cutscene with the Crowfather, fast travel back to the Tree of Death and jump threw the Portal and you get the next Achievement: City of the Dead

Am I the only one that didn't get this achievement during normal progression. I just defeated Archon, I believe I should have unlocked this when i defeated the wailing host. Unless there is a second battle?

also beat him with no achievement unlocking. As I hadn't looked at the secret names, I didn't know one should unlock. Guess I'll have to get this one on my Ng plus.

I got also found the gates were down on the opposite side to where you come in. I just used my Pistol to take him down and called in Ghouls to deal with everything else. Only needed to move in twice to B button, when prompted. Achievement popped after the battle

This glitched for me as well, and the City of the Dead quest, now I'll have to wait until Playthrough 2 to unlock it as I'm now in Lostlight, how awful. This should really be flagged as buggy.

I was going to post a solution because the way I did this was a lot easier, but after watching the video, I think my game glitched. There were no fences between the arena and the doors, so I stood in front on the door you enter from where none of his attacks could hit me. Shot him in the face several times until he went down, hit him, then ran back to where I was originally standing so I didn't have to worry about his attacks, just the minor enemies.

Yes I think I got a good glitch and a bad glitch simultaneously. I too had leave to stand in the exit perfectly safe while I shot him and regenerated health, however after depleting his health bar nothing happened, he froze and the flying snake things kept on attacking, he would not actually die.

After shooting and hitting him for a long time I decided to go through the exit doors anyway triggering a cutscene. Fearing that I would bypass an achievement I hit the dashboard and repeated the boss fight. It happened again but much earlier he froze before I ripped his mask off. I then fast traveled away and returned. Take 3: I purposely refrained from using Redemption as I think it may cause the Wailing Hosts health bar to deplete but not his actual health. Whether this is true or not it worked, he did not freeze but I did hide in the exit a few times. I'd recommend not using the gun, and definitely not going through the exit until you have the Soul Crushing achievement secured.

There is a much easier way to beat The Wailing Host, rather than dodge slamming, swinging arms. It takes about twice as long as attacking with scythes and such, but much much safer.

When you enter the Host's chamber you come up a walk-way with walls, if you are in this walk-way the Host can reach you and you cannot maneuver out of his way. Opposite the position you come in is another, identical walk-way, where the Host cannot reach you.

When you come into the chamber run around to the other side, hide in the walk-way where you will be safe, and just shoot the Host with Redemption. When it falls, run out and slash at it a few times, then get back quickly. You can deal with the smaller host skeletons sent against you from this position as well without having to worry about being hit by the arms.

This is story related trophy that will unlock naturally during your playthrough of the game. For additional information with potential spoilers, read the detailed description below.

After completing the “Court of Bones” quest and receiving the Soulsplitter, you will make your way through the City of the Dead. At the end of the lengthy four floor dungeon you will face the Wailing Host, the largest boss (in size, not difficulty) up to this point in the game. Simply defeat it and this trophy is yours.

A fairly easy boss, the essence of defeating him comes down to a constant hail of blows on his tentacles. As soon as he appears, go straight to his chest and start hitting him; you don’t even have to try to dodge the punches. As soon as he falls face down into the arena, press x, death tears off his mask, then we repeat everything again when he hides in his hole, beat the skeletons, and again in a circle, wait for the treasured button above his head, that’s it.
