How to unlock the Ultimate Blade achievement in Darksiders - Definitive Guide

[STORY SPOILERS - BLACK THRONE ONWARDS]

This is a story progression Achievement and cannot be missed, yet I felt it necessary to help anyone who may get stuck on the specifics for whatever reasons.

After defeating Straga in the Black Throne you will be automatically transported to 'Eden' by Azrael where you will receive a vision, the Mask of Shadows, and the hilt of the Armageddon Blade. The first shard of the seven is straight infront of you to give you a primary idea of what they look like, activate your mask and approach a giant anvil with a floating Shard on top.

You will then need to embark on a journey across six previously discovered areas to recover the lost shards of the Armageddon Blade. The locations are marked on your larger map found by pressing the start button, or when visiting Vulgrim's Serpent holes used to travel to them.

This is the best time to get all the collectibles and other chests you will have missed, max out your weapons, and clock up some kills and miles on Ruin at your discretion. Simply DO NOT collect the seventh shard until your happy you've got everything else out of the way.

*For these Shards you will need to have your Mask activated and they appear on your local map and radar as a Gold Shards symbol.

ASHLANDS (2 of 7)
After Eden you will find yourself back in the Ashlands where the second Shard is located. Head towards the symbol with Ruin, when you arrive you'll find a ledge that is slightly too high to tackle on foot so run up to it on horseback and quickly deactivate Ruin and jump onto it. Make your way up to a find a red puzzle, go around the side and activate your Mask to find some inactive explosives on the wall then use your Abyssal arm to pull one off (no pun) and throw it at the back-side of the puzzle then use the Crossblade on the fire-sconce to the left to blow it (up). Go back around and remember to use your mask to grab the Shard.

THE DRY ROADS (3 of 7)
When you arrive back in the Dry Roads you will be unexpectedly attacked by Uriel, after you defeat her the Shard will be easily reachable out in the open.

CROSSROADS (4 of 7)
When you arrive via the Serpent Hole kill the demons and turn on your Mask, you will find an orange Shadow-Flight orb, use it get onto the nearby edge of the building, jump the small gap then go along to find another orb, equip your Abyssal Arm and fly up then grapple in the air over to the ledge where you'll find the Shard.

DROWNED PASS (5 of 7)
Swim over to the flooded building where the Symbol is, walk up the stairs to the top and equip your Abyssal Arm, Mask on to find a grapple above you, be careful not to fall back down using the girder on the right and over to the anvil for the Shard. (Note there'll be a chest on your radar here that you probably already collected, it's not actually there it's just a glitch).

BROKEN STAIR (6 of 7)
On the far east side of the map, go up onto the fractured highway and over to the ruined building, where you captured the Griffin (Angelic Mount) on your first encounter. Because of the cutscene and consequent story progression you were unable to explore the roof where you will now find the Shard in the open, (mask on).

THE CHOKING GROUNDS (7 of 7)
You'll encounter a large number of new enemies here upon arrival, destroy them and make your way north to the half collapsed building. This building had/has a red and a blue puzzle that's straightforward to pass, however there are some more enemies inside to impede you. Go to the right and look down you'll find a hole leading down under the building. Drop down into Sub-basement 3 and then Shadow-Flight up to Sub-basement 2, smash the red puzzle door using the fire-sconce and proceed up the growth. Simply walk up the collapsed floor from Sub-basement 1 to the ground floor, equip your Abyssal Arm and grapple onto the wall growth then jump or drop off onto the first floor. Destroy the demons and collect the Rage consumable from the crate. Turn on your Mask and you'll notice the Shadow-Flight orb in the floor, use it to gain access to the second floor and the Shard.

When you have all the Shards you can make your way to the Anvil's Ford to see Ulthane. There's a cutscene and Ulthane will re-forge the Armageddon Blade for you, the achievement will pop after the cutscene.

*Note this will replace Chaoseater but will be fully levelled so if you have your Scythe/Harvester and Gauntlet fully upgraded you'll get the Battle Hardened achievement regardless.

Any problems or improvements please PM me and I'll edit after confirmation.

Thanks, good luck and don't forget to leave appropriate feedback.

I didn't say the game was bad at all, this sword is just a haphazard band aid to prevent someone from going to fight The Destroyer who does not have a maxed level Chaoseater.

If the Armageddon Blade would have been a key then I wouldn't have had a problem with it, such as simply using it to smash the seventh seal when he receives it since the story establishes that it's apparently the only thing that can do so. Removing your Chaoseater just to make sure you enter the boss fight with a maxed level sword feels really lazy after the great experience I had in the rest of the game.

Hmm, OK, I never got that impression. It was a long time ago, but i believe my thoughts at the time were something like; 'I need an Armageddon Blade to continue? Lets do this!'. And I loved it, didn't use my Chaoseater much anyway tbh.

The achievement will unlock even if I did not leveled all up the Chaoseater before get the Armageddon Sword? That is what I did, and by the way, I have no Ultimate Sword achievement unlocked even if I ended the game already...

I enjoyed every single aspect of this game to the last. Practically every game in existence re-uses previous maps, even some of the greatest, but at least this game presented new puzzles when you got there, not like: Borderlands. Halo, Rage, Witcher 2, Dark Souls, Dead Space, Dragon Age etc etc where they literally just forced you back through the same recycled area again and spawned more enemies.

I also liked the fact that the Armageddon blade wasn't necessarily better than Chaoseater, it made it feel more like a 'key' than a super-weapon and added more challenge to the finale of the game.

But hey, people have different experiences I guess.

Aw, this sword sucks. It replaces your Chaoseater blade and it has no rune slot, so the game is basically forcing you to gimp yourself heading into the final boss battle.

I also get the feeling the developers were rushed or ran out of money, because all this sword requires is returning to places you've already been and picking up the pieces. There's literally no more to it than that. Given how much this game parallels Legend of Zelda, I was expecting a dark world or something with 7 more dungeons, but no such luck from contemporary game developers.

Good solution, anyway.

Ultimate Blade
Forge the Armageddon Blade.

This is received after you collect all 6 pieces of the armageddon blade
**for those ppl that commented, there are actually only 6 piece, that you have to collect the other piece you get automatically from story progression (so yes 7 in total, 6 collectable, hence the collect all 6 pieces)***
After that proceed to Ulthane at Anvil's Ford.
This will pop after the cutscene.

one of the Armageddon blade pieces is a bit tricky to find its the one that in the choking grounds you have to go in to tunnel that leads down which is to the right of the piece, keep going down the tunnel & then use your mask of shadows to illuminate one of those things that fly you up find a demonic growth those things you climb shoot with the Abyssal Chain & find the Piece up there in a chest. Im working on getting those pieces myself have fun!

This trophy is very straightforward, however one of the pieces of the blade itself is a bit tricky. The blade that you will find in the Choking Grounds is accessed through the bottom of the house. That entrance is to the left in a little tunnel, right on the path towards where the Golem used to be.

You have to make your way through the tunnel, into the basement of the house, up to the top. The trick here is that on one of the floors you will be required to use the Abyssal Chain on some Demonic Growth. It isn't obvious, and therefore stumps a ton of people (myself included).

It also should be noted that it is impossible to obtain Battle Hardened until you get this trophy. As long as you finish the game you will not miss this trophy. It is one of the very last things you will complete in the game.
