How to unlock the No sleep for the wicked achievement in Darkwood - Definitive Guide
There is one chance to get this in a playthrough and failure will result in having to start another game. You can delete local saves and play off-line in order to repeat this section.
How to find the Black Chomper
There are stoves located in all four of the bases throughout the game. When you cook meat, red eggs, embryos, mushrooms, fish etc. you can purchase perks. Every time you purchase a negative perk, there is a chance you will enter 1 of 4 randomly selected dreams. There is a 5th dream if you selected the extra content at the start of the game. One of the dreams will take place in a forest. At the end of the path will be a shovel, and empty grave and a talking corpse. You have the option of sleeping in the grave(good for another achievement), running back to the start or fighting the Black Chomper.
If you find yourself in this dream you can go offline to prevent your probable failure from being saved online. Another option here is simply to quit the game. This will create a backup online that will start you right at the dream. However, I recommend NOT trying to take the black chomper on until your 7th perk upgrade. You will probably be on chapter 7 by that point. This will allow you to have a few more perks/health going into the fight. If you do get the chomper dream early on enter the grave instead or playoff line and repeat to get another dream to complete instead. By having the 7th perk, you will have more health or other perks that will make taking on the chomper less challenging.
Strategies for the Chomper
-I spammed the hell out the pause button to give myself more time to react; in the video I did not abuse it as much as I did in other attempts.
-I never used the full swing but rather the shovel stab.
-I reconfigured the controller so I could use the dodge function easier. If you want to do this you have to go into settings on xbox menu. I swapped and .
-For perks, I liked the acid blood but I went back and forth on the adrenaline/more health. I defeated the chomper with adrenaline.
-Find videos of others doing this and find what works best for you.
-Go for this achievement during your second playthrough to give yourself a chance to get better with the difficult controls of the game.
-Creating a save point at the stove rather than in the dream itself gives you an opportunity to exploit a small positive glitch.
---Go back online the second you beat the sucker!!
I never exactly figured out how to do the glitch but I think it has something to with going offline/ disconnecting the controller as the dream is loading. The glitch allows you to see all around you but you can not see your health/stamina either.
You are going to find the hardest part of this is not so much the fight but the impatience of have to reload the game. You spend 1 minute fighting and 5 minutes loading.

Me:
"This is hard."
...
"This is impossible."
...
"Aggh! The melee combat in this game sucks!"
...
"GRRGGHHAAA!"
...
"Great. Fifteen years of 100 percent completion ruined by this STUPID game with its STUPID melee combat!"
...
"MmmmmmmmNOOOOOOO!"
...
"Oh, hey, I got it."
I've never used the go-offline, delete save, go back online method to unlock an achievement until this game, but it's the only way to get this one or "Merciful," as far as I'm concerned. I went offline every time I was about to level up at the oven because I wanted to make sure I didn't get this dream until Level 7 to get Adrenaline.
I can't tell that I learned much from all of my attempts except to do less running away from the enemy and more backing away while looking at it. I also used full charged swings instead of RB stabs mainly because the RB action only seemed to fire about 1/3 of the time that I tried to use it. Anyone reading this, if you're convinced it's too hard and you'll never get it, just keep trying.
Thanks for the guide. I never figured out what all that pausing was about, though. It seemed like it was just adding extra button pushing into an already difficult situation.

I have a problem with my screen, it only shows half of my hud because the game screen is zoomed in. I've looked high and low in the settings and there's nothing I can find to adjust the screen size.

Hey all.
I felt like I had a different plan of action to deal with the Black Chomper than the other guide, so I wanted to share. Hopefully this will help.
Finding the Black Chomper:
So, for the solution:
A safe(r) and (more) reliable strategy to kill the Black Chomper during the Woods dream sequence is to circle the grave and bait favourable angles to get hits in.
The Black Chomper dies on the 6th (quick) hit, you die on the 4th hit.
Tips:
1 - You die on the fourth hit, so play it safe and reset after being hit for the third time.
2 - You CAN reset bad runs. After being hit 3 times, pause, quit to main menu, and reload your save. It puts you back at the start of the dream sequence.
3 - You can hit over the grave, while the Chomper cannot. Use this for a free hit at the start, and take advantage when you can.
4 - Circle the grave and keep moving. It makes it much more difficult to be hit, and makes the encounter much more manageable.
Good stamina management while circling the grave and attacking, with resetting and a bit of practice, you’ll pick this up in no time.

Found this a lot more helpful than the other guide as I don't like messing with save files (or spamming the pause button for that matter). Took me three attempts doing it this way. Most annoying part was waiting for the black chomper to spawn. While the xbox series will negate most of the loading time, I still had to stare at the screen for a probable 5 minutes on each attempt before this fucker would decide to confront me. Never seen such an achievement before, being both, boring, while also intensely adrenaline-inducing.

I’m glad it was or use! I’m not sure why it took so long for it to spawn for you, but even at that, it’s much better than a full game reply!

As soon as this dream starts (4th in a row), then throw the saves onto the flash drive, because you will have to restart the game many times by quickly turning it off via PS. I also advise you to use quick strikes and do not rush to kill the enemy, walking around the grave.

On the first try I passed by running around the grave. In the church the devourer seemed more difficult. You need to hit the devourer at the moment when he has already made an attack and stands in one place for 0.5 seconds. Otherwise he will dodge

As soon as this dream starts, BE SURE to reset your save and do not count on a quick restart, because it is in this place that the game manages to be saved. I had this dream after the church, where I killed the devourer, but the trophy did not fall out. So this is what needs to be killed.
