How to unlock the Music Appreciation Award achievement in Day of the Tentacle Remastered - Definitive Guide

You can turn the stereo on (to proceed with the story), then turn it off immediately and still get the achievement, but only if you turn it back on just before the end part of the game.

I used a save game near the end part, just before Hoaguie and Laverne travels back in time, and it worked for me.

Spoiler alert:

Bernard has to turn the stereo on BEFORE making the 3 of this steps:
- Activated the time machine for Laverne
- make a call to buy a diamond and activate it
- Activated the time machine for Hoagie ( my last step)

As Voodo melon more clearly says (thanks), you can do 2 of 3 steps, and then turn on the Stereo.

Based on NeverwinterLune solution at truetrophies:
Thanks to The Reverend JC, yes, you have to turn it on before the end part, it's anioning to hear the noise all the time.

The music was driving me mad so I turned it off, completed powering Hoagie and Laverne's Chron-o-Johns and then put it back on before getting Dr Fred to sign the contract/obtaining the diamond. Achievement popped 👍

Yes, as @The Reverend JC said, you have to turn on the music before get the diamond (I turned on when I get the safe combination), but you can end the Hoagie and Laverne's stories with the music turn off.

I got the diamond and powered Hoagies Chron-o-john before turning the stereo back on. It popped just after I powered Lavernes Chron-o-john.

It seems you can complete two of the objectives in the solution, but must turn it back on before completing the third one.

I turned on the music AFTER
- Activated the time machine for Laverne
- bought the diamond

And it worked. So yes, one missing objective is fine.

After being able to use Hoagie switch characters back to Bernard and go back to the main floor (where you start the game) with the "stairs" on the right and then go to the second floor with another set of stairs on the right. Once on the second floor you will see three doors go to the one at the end of the hall with an "F" on the front, the push the speaker over in the middle of the room then turn the radio "on" (the radio is on the left of the door). Then (DONT TURN OFF RADIO "AT ALL") once you get to yesterday (not going to make a guide on that, find one for yourself) the achievement will go Ba-Ding.

I can confirm that you can actually turn the music off, it was driving me insane so I was going to do a second playthrough with sound turned down but fortunately no need. Just finish getting the other two characters Chron-o-Johns ready and turn the music back on before getting the diamond. Achievement popped just fine.

What probably is not that obvious is that the trophy does not imply leaving the stereo turned on from the moment you do it first to reaching yesterday. The description says "Reach yesterday without turning the stereo off", so you have to do just that, really. Meaning, you can turn it on and off as many times as you like, but it had to be on just before doing a certain action.

So, you can turn the stereo on (to proceed with the story), then turn it off immediately and still get the achievement, but only if you turn it back on just before the end of the game. I also used Bernard to do his part the very last - after Laverne and Hoagie activated their time machines already.

Here is what I did in more detail:

I just verified it the second time (first on Steam then on PS Vita). I think the important bit is that Bernard has to be the last character to do his part, as the very first time I played the game I didn't get this achievement, even though the stereo was on. But I did get it on both platforms (PC and PS) using the way described above.

To unlock this trophy you must turn the stereo on before completing any of the 3 conditions required to reach yesterday (buy diamond and activate both Chron-o-Johns).

If you try to leave it until the last possible moment (diamond purchased and Hoagie activated) it won't unlock. However you don't have to do it at the beginning of the game as some advice I've seen around the internet suggests. That would be quite annoying to play.

After trying to do it late and failing to unlock, I went back to a save point where I had:

Turned the stereo on, completed the 3 conditions fairly quickly and it unlocked.

Just some additional info: I just unlocked the achievement by being rather far in the game:

*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***

So maybe you need to only activate the stereo before the contract gets signed.

This is not a bad advice per se - postponing turning the stereo on as much as possible, but there is definitely an easier way. I will add it as a stand-alone solution for better visibility.

NOTE: This trophy is missable.

Early in the game (present), you will need to turn on a stereo. Simply neglect to turn it off once the loud music has served its purpose. The trophy will unlock once all three protagonists finish their individual segments of the game.

It is best to do this as early as possible; there have been reports that putting this off until towards the end of the game has caused the trophy to remain locked.
