After going through the lengthy introduction, you'll gain control of Bernard. As Laverne takes the party room and Hoagie searches upstairs, this leaves you with searching the lobby. Aside from a few paltry items to distract you, there's not much other than a ticking grandfather clock, but should you try to open it, you'll discover the secret entrance to Dr. Fred's Lab.
