How to unlock the First to the Punch achievement in Dead by Daylight - Definitive Guide
This cheevo description has changed due to DBD's update on 11-17-21, removing the Stranger Things chapter. All three characters remain in the game for players who have previously purchased them, but this cheevo no longer has anything to do with the Demogorgon. This guide will cover the updated description.
This cheevo is for killer players only. You get it by knocking down a survivor near a pallet before they can drop it. Any form of attack can count, including chainsaws. If the survivor drops the pallet, you probably won't earn credit. DBD doesn't have hit verification at the time of this writing, so it's possible to hit survivors through a pallet at the same time they drop it on you. I'm not sure if this counts or not.
The radius for earning downs is relatively generous, you don't have to necessarily be inside the pallet's corridor for it to count in your 30 (but you still have to be pretty close). This means that if you play killer regularly, you will earn this through normal play because of how often survivors are around pallets. More experienced survivors will literally die for their pallets, especially the god pallet (the one found in the killer shack). If you're specifically trying to farm this cheevo, go for early hits. Lunge and try to hit the survivor just before they reach that pallet. More experienced survivors will loop you around the pallet several times until they can be sure you are in position for a stun, so this will be much easier against newer players or those unskilled at looping.
Some killers will earn this faster than others. The Trapper is a good choice because you can place traps within pallet corridors and unsuspecting survivors will trigger them, preventing them from pulling the pallet down. If you use this method, make sure you hit the survivor off the trap with RT, don't pluck them with RB. The Doctor can shock survivors, preventing them from dropping pallets while they are in the scream animation. The Nurse and Spirit can trick survivors with their powers, although this may also cause the survivor to drop the pallet early because they don't know where you are. I also recommend the Hag; like Trappy she can place traps near pallets and take advantage of surprise attacks.
There is one perk that may be useful, which is Hex: Blood Favour. It is a Blight perk that will call on the Entity to block raised pallets if you can score a hit near a pallet. Like most hexes, it is extremely unreliable, especially now that boon perks are a thing.
Killers I do not recommend for this cheevo are the Clown, the Deathslinger, and both chainsaw killers. Some survivors will drop pallets earlier against these killers because it buys them more time against their powers. Legion is also not great because that killer benefits more by vaulting pallets, requiring them to be dropped first.

You need to down survivors with “Shred”, not wound. So make sure that the survivor is already wounded.
In order to use the Shred Ability, Demogorgon needs to charge his special power, “Of the Abyss”, default by holding LT. When “Of the Abyss” is charged for atleast 65%, pressing the attack button, default RT, will activate his special Ability “Shred”.
If you press the attack button when his power is less than 65% charged he will just perform a regular (lunge ) attack and thus not count towards the achievement.
You can charge “Of the Abyss” while mid chase and keep it fully charged. There is no timeframe in which you need to unleash your Shred ability, meaning you can take your time ensuring the down, without worrying for a penalty or fatigue.
Charging “Of the Abyss” fully takes 1 second.
You can use Perks that increase the healing time for survivors.
*“Sloppy Butcher” applies the Mangled Effect to survivors when hit, increasing heal time by 20%.
*”Thanatophobia” slows survivor action speed (including healing) for up to 4%, for every wounded, dying or hooked survivor. Meaning when 4 survivors are wounded, they all suffer from 16% slower action speed.
*”Coulraphobia”slows healing down when survivors are healing inside your terror radius. This is the least effective perk of the 3
Additionally you can use the perk “A Nurse’s Calling” to find survivors healing.
Extra note
OF THE ABYSS:
Press and hold the Power button to fully charge and activate Of the Abyss. All Survivors within a close proximity to an activated Portal (yellow Aura) will be indicated by Killer Instinct.

I think this achievement has been changed to "First to the punch" Down 30 Survivors next to raised pallets in public matches.

This guide is no longer accurate due to the Stranger Things content changes. It is now be done with any killer by downing a survivor near a raised pallet.

Make sure to fully charge the shred attack by holding (Default Keybind: M2) and then clicking M1 to trigger the shred attack when you are ready. The shred has a decent range, however, you cannot turn while the Shred is in motion.
