How to unlock the I like to live dangerously… achievement in Dead Cells - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for beating the final boss while having the cursed sword equipped. What makes this tricky is the cursed sword will cause you to die in one hit, but getting the achievement doesn't require MLG skills thanks to a save exploit outlined below.

Cursed Sword blueprint drops from killing Conjunctivitis the first time. When you get it DO NOT BUY IT FROM THE SMITH UNTIL YOU ARE IN THE BREAK AREA BEFORE THE FINAL BOSS (throne room) AND ARE GOING FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT!!!

The Cursed Sword costs 50 cells to unlock. You can either save up that many (that door that won't let you past unless you spend all your cells? it can be destroyed), or invest 30-40 so you need to spend fewer cells when you're ready. The smith will drop the cursed sword when you purchase the blue print so you don't need to fret looking for one leading up to the final boss

recommendations:

- play on easiest setting (no active stem cells)

- spend every upgrade scroll you can on TACTICS (purple lightning bolt)

- upgrading the forge to increase +, ++, and S % as much as you can for weapons helps out tremendously

- For weapons I would recommend a good, high level ranged weapon (I used multiple-nocks bow for this) and I always used wolf trap to control the final boss and double crossbow-o-matic. This was my loadout - use whatever you prefer.

- mutations I would strongly suggest are:
Ammunition (for ranged)
Support
(your choice for 3rd)

The save exploit:

Dead Cells has a sort of quick save/save state system. This is at any time you press cn_guide, the game will save at exactly that point wherever you are. The moment you die, this save feature is disabled so if you press cn_guide, dashboard, and quit the game you will continue off the last time you pressed cn_guide while alive. If you never did, you will restart at the very start of whatever level you made it to. This exploit will allow you to retry as many times as you want without having to restart from the beginning of the game.

note: be extra cautious to not screw yourself over with a bad save

Getting this achievement is easily possible using this exploit.

Strategy:

If you're familiar with the final boss, he will freeze and summon minions after taking enough damage - this is the perfect opportunity to quick save. If you have a high tactics level and a good ranged weapon, it is possible to hit him so hard, you'll get to the 3rd part of the battle before he even has a chance to attack.

This 3rd part is tricky since he will have enough health allowing to attack. Worse that he is more aggressive and throws attacks with higher frequency in this 3rd phase. Its really luck dependent if he throws something easy to dodge or jump over, or he throws some long range hard to avoid bullshit that will kill you.

Luck willing with having a high level ranged weapon and a high tactics level, you can still kill him quickly. He was only able to get off 2 attacks before I finished him off.

Maybe add the information that the trophy will unlock AFTER you finish the playthrough and not after you killed the boss. I stacked getting no hit and using the cursed sword and right after the boss it just unlocked the achievement for getting no hit.

Cursed Sword blueprint now drops from killing Conjunctivitis the third time.

I just went through a custom game, unlocked the cursed sword right before The Hand. Killed him and no achievement popped. I just limited my weapons to the few I prefer and did nothing to my mutations. What a waste of a playthrough! That run should have netted me 3 achievements, now I have to restart and pray for the cursed sword to drop right before The Hand so I can get back my high level, high damage weapon. Be warned do this on Nornal mode.

For those on the latest Malaise Update/Fatal Falls DLC with the backpack, one trick I used if you already unlocked the Cursed Sword is to try to get one during your run (or from the recycling tubes) then at the start of each biome, drop the sword from the backpack, clear the biome, go grab the sword and go on to the next one, rinse, repeat. Same for the bosses at the beginning of the fight. I can confirm it needs to be on Normal, a lot of achievements didn’t pop on Custom mode even without any setting that disables achievements.

I just got the achievement with a custom game. Obviously ensure the achievements disabled message doesn't come up for having to many weapons disabled etc.

Seeing info about dropping the sword keeps the curse, but I just unlocked the achievement after dropping the sword and fighting The Hand on 4BC. I got hit during the fight but didn't die.

Dropping that cursed sword to the ground right after the boss and picking it up afterwards still works in assist mode, September 2023

Another tactic for save scumming, just copy save files to Save Slots 2/3. Pause and quit, when you get far without getting hit (doing a couple hits to boss), copy save slot 1 to another save slot.

If you get hit, quit and copy the save file from slot 2/3 to slot 1 to retry.

Hot tip for anyone like me that unlocked the cursed sword before attempting this: you can restrict your available weapons in a custom game and it doesn't prevent achievements. You can thus force the game's available drops to be nothing but (for instance) the cursed sword, frost blast, heavy crossbow, wolf trap, and crossbow-o-matic. This drastically increases the chances that you'll find a cursed sword in the final level before the boss, at which point you pick it up right before you exit the level. Just make sure you have enough cash on hand to buy it in case it only appears in a shop.

Obviously choose your favorite loadout for the available weapons, I like the frost blast/heavy crossbow combination. I replaced the frost blast when I picked up the cursed sword. DO NOT use the custom option of selecting your starting weapons - that negates achievements.

Archer Spense's solution is excellent. I just want to add a visual representation how The Hand of the King can be defeated easily with the Cursed Sword. As expected I went all in with tactics. My gear was Quick bow, Cursed sword, wolf traps & crowbow o matic. Mutations: Ammo, Support & Hunters Instinct. I was able to destroy him so fast he only got to swing his sword once.. Very easy if you follow the vid.

It's also worth noting that by re rolling the cursed swords perks it can get the deal x2 dmg while receiving x2 dmg making it a monster weapon.. I've been using it with great success on the next higher difficulties.

Any thoughts or comments please let me know..

I haven’t unlocked this sword yet so I’ve not used it, but is it this effective against all bosses and thus the best bet for no hit runs against the other 3?

Yes, if I recall I would use the same traps and a quick bow to finish them off quickly. Since the game gives multiple save slots you can exploit this to reroll your upgrades so you can optimize your dps. This set up it is how I pretty much got the whole 1000g.

SETUP
This achievement becomes significantly easier if you obtain the backpack perk under general upgrades and wait to obtain the cursed sword right before the final boss. It should be mentioned that you do not have to actually kill the boss with the sword in your inventory, but instead you just need to go down the well with it after the fight concludes.

The backpack becomes unlockable for 100 cells after purchasing 15 items with cells. With the backpack you are allowed to carry 1 more weapon with you (not including 2-handed weapons), providing an easy way to cheese this achievement.
The cursed sword blueprint unlocks after defeating Conjunctivius for the third time and can be unlocked for 50 cells.

Like other guides have said, try to put enough cells into the cursed sword until it requires just 1 more cell, DO NOT unlock it completely. Instead, wait until the final boss fight before spending the last cell which spawns the sword allowing you to pick it up. If you have already gotten the upgrade to unlock the cursed sword I would recommend storing it in your backpack once you find it so you can travel across zones with it, but be careful. WARNING: Even though the cursed sword is in the backpack you will still die in one hit. To avoid this, once in a new zone simply throw it onto the ground until you find the exit, then simply pick the sword back up and store it in the backpack then leave the zone. I believe items dropped onto the ground do not despawn, but I have never tested this to be certain.

EXECUTION
Once the cursed sword is obtained, pick it up and store it in the backpack with 'Y'. Again, even though the cursed sword is in the backpack you will still die in one hit. However, since it is in your backpack, you can drop it at any point by holding RB. This means right when the fight with The Hand of the King starts, toss that thing out of the backpack and onto the ground. Now that the Cursed Sword is NOT in your inventory, you will no longer die in one hit. Don't worry it shouldn't despawn in the time it takes to kill the boss. Once the boss is defeated simply pick up the cursed sword and equip it for either 'X' or 'Y' (it should not be in your backpack just to be safe). Then detach your head and go down the well back to the beginning of the game. The achievement should unlock upon respawning.

I died in one hit from the boss even though I dropped the cursed sword at the start. Replayed the save a couple of times with same result. Might have been patched or a newly introduced bug.

Unfortunately, dropping the sword no longer works. You keep the curse, even after you have dropped it in a level.

Not initially available. When the crafting recipe comes up, don't make it until the room before the final boss. For despite the enormous damage when wearing a sword, death is with one blow. Having received this sword before the final boss, you will only need to kill him without damage. Don't even bother with save tricks. If you are very lucky and its legendary version drops from the boss in the chapel, then it is better to carry it to the end, because it will be much more powerful than the newly created one. You should pump exclusively brutality. Reforge to increase damage.

You can take the sword at the beginning of the race, but leave it on the floor while passing the level, and equip it again when moving to the next one. This way you can carry it to the last boss.

The sword blueprint drops from Conjunctivius after the second kill.

I recommend not buying a sword right away, it’s better to go to the Throne Room and open it for 150 cells, and then calmly go through the Hand. If you bought it earlier, throw it off on the first portal and then go back and take it into your backpack.

It is enough to pass the boss Hand of the King with a cursed sword in the second weapon slot. There is absolutely no need to use it during battle; the trophy will be given out anyway. You can leave the drawing of the sword in front of the boss, and open it only on the boss; the sword is not required for the main passage, you can go through the game calmly and comfortably!

Now the idea with the cursed sword in the second slot has been fixed, and even if it is in the bag, you fly off with one hit. Ironically, I got a weapon with 40k damage while the damned one had 26k damage. Therefore, in order not to tempt fate, I took the damned one in my bag and threw it in the arena during the battle. And when the boss had a couple of pokes left, he quickly picked him up and finished him off with it. They gave me the trophy

We leave the trophy for later. We turn the Asist mod to minimum damage to you, maximum damage to enemies. We download only the green branch. DO NOT OPEN the sword. We save 150 souls per wound. Build - ice grenade, ice shield, purple trap.
In the room in front of the boss, open the sword - it will also be green.
We fly to the boss, throw a grenade and a trap, take off 90 for him; for 4-5 hits while he is in the camp. As soon as he summons the mobs, we kill the lower ones in 1-2 hits, jump up, throw an ice grenade, and kill the elite in 3-4 hits. The boss appears again and dies in 1-2 hits without having time to do anything.
