How to unlock the What? There's nothing wrong with these... achievement in Dead Cells - Definitive Guide

I was able to do this by focusing on traps. Traps can get 175% increased damage on frozen enemies, 100% on burning enemies, and 100% on poisoned. If you have a way to freeze, burn, poison (or all 3) enemies and you have those mods on level 20ish Crossbow traps, you will melt the boss without using anything else.

If you have unlocked the permanent upgrades that give random weapons, you can't get the achievement with those. Players with theses upgrades can still find the original gear hidden in the walls under and next to the bridge you start the game on.

TLDR: make sure you're taking the actual starter gear that would spawn on a brand new game.

I noticed that once you've activated the 'random starter weapon' runes you can find the original starter weapons hidden in smashable bricks under the bridge in the room you start every run in (where you pick up your gold bag)

The random starter weapons don't count. You have to use the very first sword/shield/bow that the game gives you.

Thanks Flaybo. I'll do it again with one of those weapons and edit the solution. Just wanted to get a solution up quickly to warn people how NOT to do it, lol.

Are you allowed to upgrade the default sword and bow?

The shield is the best bet since you can still use it to parry all game. I didn't really like deployables for the last boss since he can knock them into the spike pits. Spamming a decently strong Wings of the Crow works well and instantly erases those annoying flag bombs.

Can I upgrade the starter shield, bow or sword? Or do I have to keep it as taken?

For those that ask for "Can I upgrade the starter shield, bow or sword", the answer is no, the character that allow upgrades of items does not have for the started items, so you can't because you are not allowed, and even if you wanted or could do it by mistake, it is not possible since the game does not have that feature fot the starter items.

FaSCoRP?? you can 100% upgrade the starter weapons! Not sure if it voids the achievement but you make it sound like there's no option to upgrade starter gear. You can + them and reforge them for different skills.

Edit: Yep, just unlocked this achievement with starter bow at 1+ and reforge it a few times too. Okay to upgrade.

works by putting the starter weapon in the backpack. so you can end the game with two weapons of your choice.

I put the starter bow in my back pack for the entire run while using weapons and skills of my choice for the entire run. The achievement pops at the end no issue. You don't actively need to use a starter weapon so long as it is in your possession the entire run.

I second Cheryl. Keep the bow and do whatever else you want with the other slots.

Can confirm the above, I just kept the starter sword as a secondary weapon and never used it then this popped after beating the Hand of the King.

I have this achievement both on PC and Xbox, now I am playing on PS5 and this didn't pop. Last run i made it with Cursed Sword, the trophy for it popped but not this one, don't know what I'm doing wrong 😒

This one wasn't too bad. Used Rusty Sword I as my starter sword just to meet requirements. Made my entire way through the game using explosive bow, wolf trap, and crossbowmatic turret. Had skills timer, skills dps, and +30% health as my upgrades. For the scrolls, I did 5 brutality, 18 tactics, and 7 survival which brought me to around 6,400 health and crazy good DPS.

My experience matches NINja277's. Took the Old Wooden Shield from the wall, never picked up or even recycled another shield the entire run, kept the Old Wooden Shield in the same slot the whole time, took down the Hand of the King... no Achievement. Entered the fountain, credits rolled... no Achievement. Back to the Prisoner's Quarters... no Achievement. I think we have a Buggy Minus on our hands here. Can anyone confirm if maybe a patch broke this?

EDIT: Game just got updated today, I'll try again.

UPDATE: I have confirmed that the Achievement IS (now?) earnable through the above method; it pops during the credits. I don't know if the update fixed something broken, or if another quirk I tried was a factor: I put the Old Wooden Shield in the 'X' button slot. It was the first thing I'd picked up, and never moved it (I usually put shields on the 'Y' button).

There is a very important nuance here. You need exactly those 2 weapons that were given out at the very beginning of the game. After upgrading to random weapons, the starting ones can be found in the secrets in the starting room. And you have to go through the whole game with them. I advise you to do this when you open all the runes, in order to upgrade your weapon as much as possible during the game.

It is enough to complete the game with one weapon of your choice.

The secrets are in the starting room, we jump down from the bridge - there will be a sword in the left corner, a bow on the right. On normal difficulty and ramping up through brutality, the sword is quite good

It is enough to pass the boss Hand of the King with a starting weapon in the second slot. There is absolutely no need to use it during battle; the trophy will be given out anyway

I left one starting weapon (shield), but the achievement was not given. When I went through it again, I left both weapons, one in my hand, and the other in an additional bag, gaining the achievement. So I think you need 2 weapons at once for aichva
