Items can be collected by blasting objects in a room until they’re destroyed, occasionally one will drop out along with money. Items can also be found on the floor of rooms when you enter. Run over items or use 
to vacuum the up if they’re in an awkward position to collect them. Items are generally food to restore health or stuff to possibly help fight ghosts.
You use items by pressing
or 
. You can only have 2 at a time so you may have to use one to pick up others. Be careful when using items as they don’t come with any explanation of what they do and some have negative effects on you and could end up killing you and losing any upgrades you’ve earned.
On 25 different items collected this will pop, which should come fairly early in the game.
When back in the office you can check the handbook to see what and how many items you have collected and a very limited explanation of what they do.
