How to unlock the On Safari achievement in Dead Island 2 - Definitive Guide
Note you only need the first tier of all these challenges and they all state “while playing as any Slayer” which I assume implies they are cumulative across all characters.
Click on the spoiler if you need to see the entire list. Most will be completed naturally though.
A couple notes - burning zombies can be put out and made a lot safer by using the Chen Bomb Curveball (this also makes them Soggy which is a challenge in a different category).
Fully updating a Zompedia Entry means getting all 4 levels of kills for at least one zombie type in the Zompedia, which can be found under Collectibles.
Speaking of which, if you don’t know what a zombie type is, you can always look it up in the Zompedia.
Generic Apex Zombies unlock as you fight their mini boss variants during the story. For example after beating the named Crusher at the Halperin Hotel regular Crushers start spawning. Normal zombies appear as you progress through the story, for example Spiky Zombies appear in Venice Beach.
Here’s a few locations to find those you might not have enough of. Let me know if I need to add to this list but here’s the farming locations for each. All farming locations are Daytime unless I specifically note “Nighttime” (selected during fast travel).
At all hotspots log off to character select right at the hotspot once done killing, restarting will put you very close to the hotspot. The sole exception to this is the Mutator hotspot by Brentwood Sewers entrance in Bel-Air. I wrote instructions for that one.
Voltaic Screamers - Monarch Studios, Screamer Hotspot in Stage 3 building (up to 2 screamers both of which can be Voltaic).
Firestorm Slobber - Hollywood Blvd. (Nighttime) Slobber Hotspot at Old Dynasty Theater, up to 2 Slobbers and about 50-75% chance each is Firestorm.
Putrefied Slobber - Brentwood Sewers Slobber Hotspot, up to 2 Slobbers and 50% chance of Putrefied, 10% Firestorm, rest regular. Be wary of all the caustic pools and fire here, Slobbers can spawn on the catwalks as well so look up.
Mutators - Bel-Air, this one takes describing. First of all, un-mutated Mutators always look the same: they are always male, very pale, shirtless and white shorts and are always labeled as Walkers. They are much easier to kill before they mutate so recognizing them will make this much easier. Explosions, gunshots and loud zombies like screamers will make them mutate even if they can’t see you. Up to 3 can spawn per this short run. Starting at Emma Jaunt’s House exit the side gate that is right across from the side gate to Curtis’ (the old guy who gave you Peggy) house. This is a small gate that only opens from the outside if you use the buzzer. Eliminate close zombies and look down the hill to the group of zombies at the crossroads. Rare zombies can spawn here including mutators, kill then, then head down the alley towards the Brentwood Sewer entrance. Along the way a Runner, Mutator or (rarely) a Butcher will spawn, finally at the bottom you will find a group of zombies, usually a Mutator and two other rarer zombies like Bursters or Swarm or a second Apex of some type. Run back to Emma’s, watching the first spot as sometimes a Mutator will crawl out of the sewer hole there, log off and on, rinse and repeat. This is VERY fast even if you want to farm all the Mutator and pre-mutated Mutator kills. I find Dash Strike to stun them and 3-4 hits from an electric Frenzy weapon stuns them and keeps them from mutating before a kill (unless a screamer stuns you or you get grabbed or knocked down).
The best farming spot in the game!
Final spot for farming nearly everything - Venice Beach, right outside the Police Station. You need a good murdery build for this one so I’ll post one below. There are 4 cop cars out front and 3 will set off their alarm when hit. You want them always to be alarming. Murder everything with your best in your face melee weapon. Use Dash Strike (hint: Warcry sucks) to stun Apex and toss Bursters into other zombies. Use your Fury with Overhead Smash at times, this will keep the cop car alarms going (you can hit them but that’s tougher to keep doing reliably). This will frequently spawn tough Apex enemies so be aware. You’ll get Eats, Hydration, and Swarm zombies too. Make sure you have a “heal as you kill” card or two equipped as well. I prefer electric damage for the stun and using rage and the Grenade Curveball whenever enough immune zombies have showed up.
Here’s a super murder build if you need it, from what multiplayer I have played this is superior to every build I have seen but YMMV. Works best on Carla or Ryan but I think any Slayer can run it.

To complete the first tier of every Zombie Challenge, all you basically need to do is kill a certain amount of zombies of all varieties. Check out our Dead Island 2 Zompedia guide if you're looking for more assistance on where certain zombies can be found.
Perhaps the trickiest part of the Zombie Challenges is killing 10 Inferno Crushers and 10 Firestorm Slobbers, but just head to "Hotspots" - as indicated on the map by a zombie icon - and you'll be fine. Beverly Hills has a Mutator spawn, while southern Venice Beach has both a good Slobber spawn (for Putrefied and Firestorm Slobbers) and a Crusher spawn near one another, and that spot usually spawns an Inferno Crusher too. If you're looking for Butchers, then head to The Pier!
Once you've completed the first tier of all 24 challenges, this trophy will pop.
