How to unlock the Variety is the Spice of Death achievement in Dead Island 2 - Definitive Guide
Pretty simple challenges to do, so I'll list each one so it's easier to read while also providing some tips;
- 50 kills with Curveballs: Pipe Bomb and Military Grenade is the best options.
- 50 kills with Rifles: Automatic, Burst, Sporting, and Hunting rifles. Do the My Mailman is a Zombie sidequest in Bel-Air to get a really good Sporting Rifle, as it automatically comes with the Precision Strike perk.
- 50 kills with Handguns: Specifically the semi-auto pistols, not Revolvers.
- Find a Legendary Weapon: You can do one of several side quests to get one or finish the main story to get one.
- 50 kills with Shotguns: As the title says. Do not use the Big Shot legendary as it is a Revolver, even though it takes shotgun ammo.
- 50 kills Maiming, Headhunter, Bulldozer, Frenzy weapon: These are only found on melee weapons, and it's the profile of the weapon. When hovering over a weapon, the top right corner (next to the level of the weapon) will tell you what profile it is, as well as the rarity.

I don't know what the deal is but I recommend focusing the curveball kills to get them out of the way. For whatever reason the tracking of it for me has been nothing short of a mystery some kills count and others don't and I don't have the slightest clue why lol

Same issue @Kuyonn is mentioning. Have well over 100 kills with curveballs but the game says i have 8 on the tracker

This post is for the people that are stuck on the '50 Kills w/ a curveball'.
I found that grenades and pipe bombs did NOT count for me, so I simply used the Shurikens and the Molotov Cocktails and they counted for me.

There are only 10 Weapon Challenges in Dead Island 2, and for the most part you should get these naturally. To check your progress in said challenges, hit the button and then go down to Challenges > Weapon Challenges.
Just make sure, while you're playing the campaign, that you mix up playstyles a little and you won't have to grind out much in the end for this one. So, try to get Pistol, Shotgun and Rifle kills (50 of each). And then, try to get 50 Maiming kills (using a machete or an axe, etc.), 50 Headhunter kills (using a golf club or a knife, etc.), 50 Frenzy kills (like the Wolverine claws and the bo staff) and 50 Bulldozer kills (using baseball bats and hammers) and you'll be fine.
Finally, the one that I was stuck grinding for a bit at the end was getting 50 Curveball kills - just make sure you're constantly using these throughout. I was clearly not!
It's also worth mentioning, I did have Challenge counter tracking issues after a while on my main Slayer, as they stopped tracking altogether. However, because some stats carry across playthroughs, I was able to continue progress towards those challenges on a different Slayer. Worth bearing in mind if you have issues.
