Due to recent patches this achievement is bugged and may pop early. I’ll note the details in the spoiler below. Thanks to TheDude722 and Andre Alexandr who confirmed this.
This is story related and cannot be missed. Story wise you’ll accomplish this very early, The Halperin Hotel is the second area in the game.
The achievement pops during a cutscene after a boss fight.
If you need specific details, which will include spoilers, click on the spoiler tag:
Basically this zone is made up of 3 areas, the roads and evacuation zones leading to the hotel, the hotel itself, and behind the hotel.
There are several side areas and locked chests. There is very little reason to explore the side areas at this point as you cannot access the vast majority and one contains zombies that will be “skulls” to you (the underground parking). You’ll start to see more red weapon crates here, these always respawn their contents as you come back so go ahead and loot them as you see them.
Start by just running down the roads, don’t go into the sinkhole, angle right and then enter the area with the broken ambulances and bus. Look for a hole in the fence behind the overturned bus, this is the main path. Make your way through the fences, you can see the hotel front door now. When you get there there’s a weapon locking zombies inside. When you’re ready for a big fight and a few waves of zombies, loot the weapon. You can use the nearby gas cans to create hazards if you want. Your Meat Bait Curveball will remain excellent throughout the game for distracting zombies and should be used to direct zombies into hazards and whenever you feel overwhelmed. Many will immediately go for the bait until it disappears or you attack them again.
As soon as you clear the lobby you’re supposed to walk to the ballroom doors, find they’re locked and look for a path around.
NOTE: this achievement is bugged right now and may pop early as you approach the locked ballroom doors.
You’ll also start hearing a drunk military commander on the radio.
There’s a side door from the lobby that opens out to a an area with tons of body bags. Eventually you’ll come to a pool filled with green stuff, this is Caustic damage type and causes the confusingly named Melting effect to you and zombies. Use your Meat Bait to direct zombies to the pool, you can throw it directly in the pool. There will also be Caustic Walkers which have heavy resistance to Caustic damage and cannot suffer Melting, kill these.
You’re supposed to explore 3 points to find out what’s going on but they’re hard to spot, look for a little magnifying glass icon as you get close. The three are: the crates by the pool to your left as you enter the area, the generator/pump machine just behind them. Then follow the hoses to the opposite side of the pool from the pump, where they enter a small grate into the ground is the third.
As soon as you do that drunk lady will shout on the radio and “wake the dead”, throw your Meat Bait into the pool to get most zombies to voluntarily melt themselves and run around the pool killing until the named mini boss busts through the door, kill them and then you’re done. There’s a workbench in the room behind the mini boss door. The big metal grate blocking the area exit should now be open.
Follow the windy path, shut down the electrical generator causing the hazard and enter a back door of the hotel. Move to the second floor. You’ll be introduced to exploding zombies now. As soon as their vests smoke and flash with a red exclamation point, kick them for a short stun and move away. Drop and flying kicks can also propel them into other zombies once you can do those skills.
Move past the elevators and crawl under the luggage, eventually you get to a fire. Right before you do you get a Chem-X Curveball. This puts out fires and you can use it to do so (or there’s water at the bottom of the staircase back where the side door of the hotel was).
From here on out you’ll be making your way into side rooms to get past obstructions. Avoid the last side room on your right as it’s full of electrified water. At end of the hallway there’s elevators and a safe room with workbench and a locker to your right. The power shut off is also in here, disable it. You can now get those tempting chest and medkit from the watery but otherwise safe side room as well as safely climb up the elevators.
On the 3rd floor you need to navigate through destroyed rooms, often crouching or smashing blue wooden planks to create a hole. At one point you crawl into the vents above the bed.
You’ll hear drunk military lady get smashed, and not in the fun drunk way, by something big.
Jump down, clear the zombies (lots of exploding ones here) and find the dead drunk lady by the workbench in her room. There’s a ballroom key on the floor beside her. You’re coming up on a boss fight. You should level match your best electric weapon at the workbench by holding X and spending some cash. If you have an Officer’s Sword this is absolutely your best option. The next best is any Frenzy type weapon that you can put your Electric Mod on. Your electric Machete that Sam B. taught you to make will have to do otherwise. Leveling up a second weapon to match your level also isn’t a terrible idea. If you don’t have the cash there’s a red weapon chest behind the elevators in the ground floor and another green weapon will be present on the stage in the ballroom.
There’s a shortcut back so keep clearing zombies down the hall until you get to the elevator bank. There’s an incomplete electrical circuit from a broken wire on the floor here, complete the circuit by pouring water here (Chem-X Curveball makes zombies Soggy so might also work). The elevator doors open, jump down until you get to the elevator with the open ceiling panel and jump in. You’re now back in the hotel lobby right next to the opening. Don’t forget the weapon behind the elevator if you need a second level appropriate weapon.
Go into the ballroom, a cutscene will ensue and the boss will arrive is epic wedding style: it’s Bridezilla! A Crusher boss. Normally Crushers can be maimed to make them easier but no bosses can be mailed in Dead Island 2.
If you ever play a second character you’ll find this boss laughably easy but as it’s your first boss you may find it a bit hard.
First, it’s not obvious but there’s a generous amount of Medkits (about 5 or 6) and some Energy Drinks scattered about the ballroom arena. As long as you brought 5 you ought to have plenty of chances.
Frenzy weapons let you build up successive hits to get automatic crits for awhile. Frenzy is the all around best weapon type in the game as it even works on bosses (something Maiming type weapons do not do). The frequent hits will also build up electric status until the boss is stunned to a few seconds. Really go to town on the boss’ back when this happens or if it falls to its knees. You can speed up this process (I believe) by using your Chem-X on the boss to make it Soggy.
Regular zombies will spawn and attack during the fight, I found tossing Meat Bait near myself and the boss would give me enough reprieve, when they gathered up I could either go after them or just let the boss knock them around.
Zombie attacks hurt other zombies. Zombies like the boss can really hurt them badly.
The boss itself is relentless and has a lot of hit points but she only really does 3(ish) things: the first is a one, two shoulder punch followed by an uppercut. The second is a ground pound where the boss jumps int the air and smashes the ground with her fists creating a shockwave that will knock you and other zombies down and do some damage (the boss often does a double ground pound which is two of these in a row), the final thing is a kick, this mostly pushes you back and does minimal damage (just like your kick).
Depending on your character selection you either can Block or Dodge at your current level. Block is actually a lot better as a perfect block of either the punches or the ground pound will stun the boss into a Vulnerable state, which is a short window where the boss won’t be attacking and will take more damage and status effects. You cannot counter a boss. Even if you miss the perfect block a ground pound will merely push you back a bit like a Kick would, not knock you down.
If you have Dodge, focus on Dodging backward, not to the side (too easy to take a Bridezilla fist to the face), if you can get an effect from a perfect Dodge on this boss, I’ve never managed it. Dodge back to avoid punches, jump to avoid the shockwave (they’re actually pretty easy to jump over).
In either case circle strafe the boss, you always want to be attacking arms or the back, a lot of punch attacks will simply miss you entirely with no need to block or dodge them if you do this. The boss’ ground pound and your Meat Bait will keep most of the other zombies off you.
If you really need to kill regular zombies kite the boss away and then kill them, the boss actually moves more aggressively than any of the regulars zombies. Use Meat Bait to avoid dealing with them as much as possible though. When you throw Chem-X at the boss you can try to hit the regular zombies as well to make it easier to inflict electrified on them.
I think there are water jugs so you could maybe create electrical hazards but honestly if you can force the boss into getting crits from your attacks you won’t need anything else and messing with water and electrical is complex enough to get a new player killed in a hectic fight.
Once you kill the boss and clear the remaining zombies you’ll get a cutscene and the achievement. Be aware Crushers, the normal Apex variant of the boss can now spawn and you’ll see several on your way back.

Weird, the making contact part is supposed to be when you acquire the radio and speak to Dr. Reed the first time but I suppose it might accidentally trigger if you cross some invisible threshold. If anyone else can confirm this popped early for them as well I’d be happy to add a bugged disclaimer.
