This is late in the story, The Metro System is the 9th area of the game out of 10. You enter The Metro right after you talk to Patton for the third time (the second time in his home). My basic advice:
- Make sure you weapons are level equivalent (you can do this by spending money at the Workbench, just hold

)
- Bring two guns (Sportsman’s Rifle and Nailgun are great choices)
- By now you can have rescued all the Bobcats and opened the stash to get Sharktooth,an electric Tactical Sword (Frenzy), this is undoubtedly one of the best weapons in the entire game (better than every Legendary). If you don’t have it or don’t want to get it, an Electric Frenzy weapon is recommended (Officer’s Sword, Wakizashi, Tactical Blade, 3 out of 4 fist weapons).
- A quality Mutilator or Impact weapon (for electric immunes or areas where electric is unsafe)
- Military Grenade Curveball (obtained from rescuing the Bobcat in Soundstage 5 at Monarch Studios) and (optionally) Chem-X (puts out fire and Fire zombies and makes them Soggy).

Go in and be careful. This is a long section with a lot of fights and some puzzles, one of which is a pain in the butt. Here is a spoiler for just that puzzle:

The area starts out safe, you’ll hear Emma, Sam, and Patton talking a ways up. There’s a side room with some materials and a Workbench so you can top off your ranged rounds or Medkits if you need.

Go up and interacted with the metal door, everyone ends up getting through but you and you’ll see a Vicious Butcher for the first time growl at you from the other side of the door and chase after the group. A side door opens and some zombies spill through, this is your new path.

Now you’re going to encounter a lot of enemies from here on out, Bursters are very common, and the most fun way in the entire game to dispose of them is Dash Strike, which is superior to Warcry and Grounr Pound so you should be using it anyway. Dash Striking a Burster always hurls them away from you and then they explode. As long as you don’t hurl them into a wall or a zombie directly behind them this only costs stamina and is fun as all get out.

Keep your gun equipped. You can usually hear Bursters before you can see them but several are around blind corners. Electric weapons are preferred for non-immune less special zombies. But if you’re careful with your ammo and use single shot weapons you can make pretty free use of your guns, there’s ammo scattered about and a Workbench midway through The Metro and this is one section where guns make a huge difference.

From here on out I may mix up what section comes first, I apologize and I’ll eventually get them fixed, but if you run across something that seems unmentioned just skim down to find it.

There’s three big areas in The Metro with ruined train cars. These are filled with both loot and many with a lot of pressure plates and trip wires. You can skip these and come back later for most of the lockboxes and whatnot (several side quests will bring you back). You can very easily die in these cars so turn on your flashlight and go slow.

To get past the first area of metro cars you’ll need to enter one near the end and traverse it into the tunnel beyond.

Very soon you’ll encounter the Vicious Butcher, the only difference I’ve noticed about them, aside from their punk rock look, is that they can eat the flesh they rip off you with their arms to heal rather than running down a corpse. While that’s very “metal” it does make them a bit less annoying to kill as you never have to chase them down. Just use your electric weapon, aim at their legs, they can also be stunned by a Dash Strike if you like. If you have Greased Pig skill already it may be worth equipping as you’ll automatically push off grabs.

The second area full of metro train cars only really has two and you’ll see a huge group of zombies moving through. One of them is a Mutator and it seems scripted so you can’t find him and take him out beforehand anyway. He has the key to exit this area so have yourself a brawl (Mutators have a nasty ranged attack and are resistant to firearm damage so I recommend melee). As soon as you exit there’s a safe area with a Workbench. One of the train cars has a purple Mattock you can loot, this weapon respawns every time you come back.

You’ll see a cutscene with Sam, Emma, and Patton fighting zombies but you can’t join them. Jump down to the top of the metro car and then down again. The next area is full of hidden enemies, clean out the initial few, now you need to put out the fire leading to the metro car that’s your exit, there’s some water cans nearby (or you can use torch Chem-X Curveball) but as soon as you do you wake up a ton of fire immune zombies, some will also be electric immune, a Fire Crusher is also among them. There’s zombies including a Firestorm Slobber moving in on you from behind too, I’d suggest resorting to guns or your Rage if the enemies get too thick. I always try and dump my water can near a wall and move away so I don’t pop it. Finish with the zombies, then the fire, and exit through the metro car door.

You’ll eventually come to a door and when you try to open it you’ll need power. There’s a bunch of Hazmat Zombies on the other side, you can kill most with a Grenade through the door. Retrace your steps and a side door will open, on your left there’s a ripped up chain link fence and electrified water. Shoot both electric boxes through either hole in the fence, jump through and grab the Circuit Breaker (you’ll have to throw it out ahead of you). Now you have to carry it through a twisting path and a water room with electrified water. There’s a Voltaic Screamer here, use your gun, throw the Circuit Breaker to the other side and go up the ramp. Plug in the breaker, the door will open and the Hazmat Runners will be coming for you, gun your way back out and finally exit via the now working door.

One area is also a tunnel with water, don’t use electric here, gun down Bursters and any zombies their explosions don’t kill. The side rooms are full of ammo and crafting materials.

Now you’ll be a cleaner area with cleaner train cars that just goes on, there’s nothing in the cars you need, when you get to the end of the tunnels there’s a working train. As soon as you power it up you’ll be in the largest zombie horde fight in the game: 3 waves. There’s tons of hazards you can detonate to thin out the chaff. I’d recommend just detonating one hazard per wave, remember your Medkit will clear harmful status effects from you if you get set on fire or whatever. Plenty of Apexes joint in the waves, focus on clearing Slobber types first and just kiting the Crusher types until last. There’s some collectibles you can grab in some of the other metro train cars in this big end room you can grab. As soon as you’re done you can take the train (activate the area transition at the front of the metro car).

The achievement will pop as soon as you do.

Anyone know best way to force a achievement to unlock? Got the story ones including the complete the game but not this chapter done it on coop and solo and was a nightmare

For me this popped after the cutscene (and quest completion, forgot the name though)when you get to the chopper.
