How to unlock the Drop The Beat achievement in Dead Island 2 - Definitive Guide

*This is the toughest fight in the whole game and will test you. There are no checkpoints in it. Be prepared to die a few times and learn the best ways to handle each phase.
This fight is much easier in co-op since you can respawn as long as your partner is still up.*

Notes
- The Dirge is the final boss of the DLC.
- Before going to the stage to fight him make sure you have full ammo and have repaired all your weapons. I recommend bringing some backup weapons, guns of each type, and leave your bleed weapons at home.
- He's immune to damage at first so don't waste ammo.
- He's always immune to bleed.
- Don't forget about your curveballs. The new Hornet's Nest one I found pretty useful.
- Bait bombs are invaluable for attracting zombs to the speakers.
- Keep on the move, especially in the 3rd phase where Bursters appear.

Strategy
- Kill zombies around the first 2 speakers while avoiding the Dirge's attacks. He hits hard so run to the opposite speaker when he appears near you.
- Throw an orb at him then hit him with the Peggy rifle or other hard hitting weapons until new speakers appear. You can also use Rage against him.
- Go to the 2 new speakers in the middle of the area and repeat the process. These two are closer quarters and I died several times using melee. I wound up using Fury when a lot of zombies were grouped up around a speaker as well as my shotgun.
- Repeat the orb throw and takedown of the Dirge's health.
- 2 new speakers appear at the rear of the area. Repeat the whole process.
- Then chuck an orb at him on the main stage and he's dead.

I'll admit this has been pissing me off too, but I've been using melee exclusively so I'll try the ranged approach for starters.

I used a Sportsmans Rifle with Mutilator for the boss, this is the safest way to hit him. It might be worth adding that orbs can be thrown at other zombies for a very damaging AOE, the orbs respawn so do this if you want to clear packs. It does more than even the Military Grenade. I found Sharktooth to be good in phase 2 and Wildstyle (modded with Sizzler) to be really nice for phase 3 (puddles of Fire killed the Bursters).

He has a very predictable attack pattern. Use the dodge perk instead of block then simply hit him with an orb attack twice then dodge that attack once and dodge again. Run to the opposite orb and repeat your attack pattern. Only stage 3 with the exploders could cause an issue. Just make sure to take them out before going into rage mode near a speaker. If you get too far away from him he will do a ranged attack where he spits blood at you. If you hit him with an orb it will cancel this attack or you can wait behind cover until he stops.

Can this be done in co op?
If so, is it any easier?
Thanks

@alandonovan I was on PS5, I assume it is the same, and co op is way easier because as long as one can stay alive the other can respawn. I was about to give up before I turned it to a public match and had someone save me.

Hey everyone, sorry if I don't make sense in explaining my strategy. This is my first time commenting, but something I wanted to add to help anyone struggling is to keep moving during the entirety of the fight. I would run around, then use the bait bomb next to the speakers, then move around for a bit, then just toss a grenade when the zombies were all attracted near it that would kill 3 to 5 zombies at a time. Do not stop moving and bring a lot of guns and 1 or 2 mele as you can hip fire the guns more quickly. I hope it helps anyone who needs it.

The toughest fight I believe was in flesh memories mission where you fight three clotters inside a small confined area

Isn't there a 4th phase? After the 2 rear speakers another speaker and 2 clotters appeared for me. I guess this is the last speaker you have to overload to get the orb that you must throw at him on stage, right? These clotters always kill me in no time.

not sure what’s happening, I keep dying while I have health? I drop dead randomly at multiple different times in this fight while my health is half or full

The first two steps can be done near instantly, throw the orb and immediately go into fury mode and slash at his back and you'll be on the third part in not time. Also keep in mind that once you destroy both speakers in a section you can take a breath and move around freely as long as you don't go near the stage. It was the third section that I kept dying on, with the bursters, in the end I just kept on the move constantly and threw bait bombs/grenades at the speakers whenever I got the chance.

Story-related; unlocks at the end of the final DLC story mission, ‘The Sound of Violence’.

The Dirge boss fight requires you to kill hordes of zombies near the Orgone balls to power them up, something you have done many times in the DLC up to this point. Then bait the Dirge close to the main speaker and throw a powered up Orgone ball at it to make it vulnerable. You can then directly attack the boss. You'll need to do this for three phases to defeat it. A full video walkthrough of the SoLA DLC story, including the Dirge final boss fight can be found HERE!

If it is very very difficult to kill the boss, lower the autophag level to 0. It helped me
