How to unlock the Blistered Feet achievement in Dead Island Retro Revenge - Definitive Guide
Just wanted to let it be known that you may not have to actually complete Marathon Mode.
I made it to section 3-8, the very last one, and I died 75% of the way in. I was devastated, but as I sat there with my face in my palms, I heard the achievement pop. So unless I was the beneficiary of a very nice glitch, I think you just have to simply make it to section 3-8, and regardless if you complete the chapter or not, the achievement pops at the summary screen. In fact, this makes sense, because the other two achievements not related to story mode (Half Marathon and A Survivor Is Born) only require you to reach a certain stage, not complete it.

I think you got lucky... I failed at 95% and nothing popped.

Here is my guide for the achievement Blistered Feet in Dead Island Retro Revenge. (This can also help with Bow to Me achievement). In these videos, I have completed each level getting five stars in all of them. The audio is unimportant, so no worries needing to listen to it. These videos will only show you how I handled the levels. I am sure that there are better ways of doing them, but I found ways suitable for 5 stars. This will help show how I beat each level while minimizing any damage taken. When doing this mode, I found it best to save power-ups until I was absolutely about to be boned.
Levels 1-1 to 1-8
Levels 2-1 to 2-8
Levels 3-1 to 3-8
The biggest advice I have is to learn the levels. Whether it is individual levels selected or in Marathon Mode, the levels stay the same format with the characters being in the same spot. The only exception would be a convict looking enemy in world 3. It is also important to know what kills enemies and linking up their death projectiles, (i.e. dog bodies, riot shields, machetes, and etc), for maximum carnage and combo action.

What combo are you using to kill those convicts on the 3rd stage?

It just cannot be two of the same buttons in a row. Because of the swinging mace I guys, I just used that type of combo on the convict dudes. I used (A,Y,A) because it is a quick down, up, down.
