How to unlock the Gang Banger achievement in Dead Rising 3 - Definitive Guide

To unlock this achievement, you will need the third tier upgrade in Mechanic (called Man Magnet) which requires 6 attribute points, and the third tier upgrade in Smarts (called Mean Girls) which requires 4. Both of these upgrades increase your maximum posse size and are needed for the achievement.

The second prerequisite for this achievement is to have 5 survivors at the Survivor Bulletin Board. Survivors are gained by completing side quests (you can check if you will receive a survivor as a reward for a mission in the Map & Missions tab). The earliest you should be able to have enough survivors is in chapter 3.

Once you have both of the upgrades and 5 survivors at the bulletin board, simply go to a Safe Zone and select all 5 survivors. They should all appear around you and the achievement should pop shortly after.

@Warlord King; if they die they're dead. Once you find one, run to the nearest safe house and you can "drop them off" at the board.

It's also worth noting (if you missed this like I did) that you pick up 3 suriviors in Chapter 2 (so start there with chapter select - I haven't figured out how to save Christine in the graveyard) and you get the next two simotamiously half way through Chapter 3.

you can save chrisitine by punching her while she is doing the ritual, after you destroy the sigils and join her again

The ones that lock from the story can be found during the last chapter (everything else you unlock - stays unlocked).

Also, I made the same mistake with the survivors. Read my comment. Takes 1/2 hour tops.

So the only way the get this when completing the game and all survivors are gone is the start from the beginning collecting 5 by doing sidemissions?

Yes. If you read the comments you can get 5 by starting Chapter 2 and playing until half way through Chapter 3. It's not as bad as it sounds!

Also, if you're waiting for DLC to finish this game; there's another achievement coming for "rescue all survivors" in an episode. Obviously at this point we have no idea if there's going to be five even, but MAYBE.

Also note that if you complete the game, there will be no way to continue and all your survivors will be gone.
I learned this the hard way after finding every single survivor and losing them all once I started again.
Even if you do chapter select, all your safehouses are gone as well.
It's actually a very annoying and aggrivating system, so I may not bother with this game anymore.
Restarting only to find blueprints locked in buildings that were accessible before is just stupid. Terrible development choice.

On Instinct's solution tells you everything about unlocking this achievement but I wanted to warn you about something: this achievement is kind of "missable" (not really, tho).

/!\ when you end the story you won't have any survivor left at the Survivor Bulletin Board when you select another chapter or start a new run /!\
That means you must do this achievement around the sixth chapter or before (which is absolutely not hard as long as you have completed some side missions).

If you didn't unlock this achievement during your story run because you thought you would be able to unlock it during chapter select (as I did), one of the fastest way to gather 5 survivors is to start from Chapter 2 in Chapter Select and do these side missions:

Chapter 2:
-Craven Consultant (find cleaver + chainsaw)
-In The Cards (find 5 cards marked on the map)
-Darker Gods (the woman in the graveyard. When you have destroyed every sigil, go back and talk to the woman and HIT HER WITH YOUR HANDS before she kills herself with a knife, otherwise she won't be available as a survivor)

That's 3 survivors already. Now you have to follow the main mission until you get to Chapter 3.
During this chapter you'll receive the quest called "Blood Barter" when you are on your way to the police station. It's a very quick mission, you'll simply have to fight two guys. Be careful: don't kill the NPC called Jesse (the bodyguard) otherwise he won't be available as a survivor. Now end the quest and BOOM you got +2 survivors which means you have 5 now so you can use the board to claim your achievement.

Two last things:
-Tier 6 of the Life attributes is "Survivor Recovery". If you get this, your survivors will never get killed (they just go back to the safehouse if they've lost too much health).
-When a survivor is following you, enter in a vehicle and drive as far as you can from him: he will automatically go back to the safehouse.

Just two tips so that you don't bother going back to the safehouse to "recall" your survivors because you're afraid they get killed. It saves some time.

This doesn't work. I followed this guide exactly, I didn't kill the bodyguard Jesse, yet after I completed the mission he did join... So still only have 4 posse members.

I'm sorry, maybe the game glitched for you or something.
This is exactly what I did and what I read others did and it went well for them though :/

You kill the other guy, so no it wont bring it to 5. Im not understanding this, how can you kill one guy and save the other when that will be 4 not 5.

Ok so having done this, you do get 5. During the main story you save someone, the next main story mission is going to the police station. Thats when you get the call for blood barter. Saving the girl during the story makes 4 along with the side missions mentioned. Saving jesse makes 5. Spay001 you shoud mention you get a survivor during the main story.

You will need at least 5 survivors on the survivor board, so make sure to complete Help Wanted first. You will also need to have upgraded the first three tiers of both the Mechanic and Smarts skills. This will allow you to have the +2 Maximum Posse Size that both of the skills have. The best thing to do is wait until you have 5 survivors and then recruit them from the survivor board into your posse; that way you don't run the risk of them inadvertently dying.

First, you need to save these 5 survivors, and these are the survivors who are marked as extra. task(blue diamond)

Secondly, you need to upgrade your Mechanic attributes to level 3 and Mind to level 3. replenish the number of people in your squad.

Then we go to the shelter, approach the board with survivors and take 5 people for ourselves, on the spot and get the achievement.
